Pretty much what the title indicates. A spot to discuss everything Stardew Valley - strategies, relationships, time manipulation abilities, anything!

For those of you who don't know what it is it's...

Website

Stardew Valley is an open-ended country-life RPG

You’ve inherited your grandfather’s old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home? It won’t be easy. Ever since Joja Corporation came to town, the old ways of life have all but disappeared. The community center, once the town’s most vibrant hub of activity, now lies in shambles. But the valley seems full of opportunity. With a little dedication, you might just be the one to restore Stardew Valley to greatness!

Purchase Stardew Valley for $14.99 USD on Steam, GOG & Humble !

I really need to get some iridium so I can make the next level sprinklers. Well past having to water stuff manually. Might dig deeper in the mines over Winter.

My biggest criticism is that the social aspect is lacking. I barely ever talk to people since it yields nothing; my only interactions involve completing quests or occasionally giving gifts. I don't even see why I should give them gifts because it hasn't improved any relationships. I understand that villagers have their own special cutscenes and I've happened across a few, but isn't it lame that you only come across them by chance?

Yeah they don't seem to have a big impact although I have noticed a change in base dialogue from a few of them. Like that depressed dude who works at the Joja Mart. After we had brews and talked about suicide he started saying hi to me instead of just "I'm busy" or "I don't want to talk to you".

My biggest gripe is that some tasks feel disproportionate to others. E.g. I get exhausted early on watering a full field of crops AND it takes half a day. I've remedied this somewhat by installing sprinklers but, compared to fishing, or having animals, the rewards don't feel equal to the work. Creating iron bars is the worst though. You put ore and some coal in the burner and it takes ages to produce. Would be nice if you could stack a few like in Minecraft. E.g. put in 25 bits of copper ore and 5 coal to produce 5 copper bars.

I think you're expected to build more furnaces. I only have one so far, so when I have ore I start the furnace up once in the morning and at night.

Yeah same. I suppose I could build more but it's still a nuisance. Esp with the high requirement of ingots for crafting and upgrades

I should post some photos. My farm is way uglier than yours but it gets the job done.
Good luck finding iridium, it's fairly rare. I've only found enough to make one ingot so far.

I agree the social aspect is lacking but that suits me fine. I've put no effort into meeting people and I think I haven't even finished the quest for talking to all 28 people yet :p

Gonna have to disagree with you on a couple of points. I've never played Harvest Moon and Stardew didn't feel weird at all to me. I also thought it had the right level of hand holding - the quest system is designed to introduce you to elements you may have missed. Get Pam a pale ale? How do I get a pale ale? Oh I have to craft a keg - this game has crafting? What else can I craft?

One thing I found a little disappointing, so far, was how the villager interaction has minimal impact on the game. The unlocked cutscenes with them are great but, for the most part, it seems to have little to no impact on interactions. Maybe I'm expecting too much though. I also felt the creation of stuff like ingots or drinks took too long when compared with other tasks. As Moo mentioned above though - I think you're meant to make more machines rather than just use the one.

Absolutely love the incentive system in the game. The community center as well as collection tracking, quests and general stats give you plenty of reason to "play just one more day" until, before you know it, it's 2am and you've played abut 4 hours more than you originally intended! :)

All in all this game has proven incredibly addictive so far. An amazing time sink!

Just nearing the end of Spring in year 2 at Rosebrooke Farm and pretty happy with my progress :) Got my crops laid out and self watering, lots of animals (about 50%), tappers for all the trees, Community Center over half done (not JoJa route), and married Leah. Collections are going well although I might have to start paying more attention to them now.

Gonna work on setting up an orchard next so I can have some fruit. Just under two years left before Grandpa's force ghost comes back to judge me on my progress (according to the statue thing). Guess it's time to go do some more fishing to earn that sweet coin!

Pics or it didn't happen

Actually I know what would be nice - the ability to assign items to left and right hands (left-right mouse click). That way, when exploring the dungeons, I could have a pickaxe in one and a sword in the other.

Works ok when I'm at home and have numbers on my mouse but, when using the laptop, it's quite cumbersome moving away from asdw to find and press the right number to switch to my sword.

You guys found these yet?

I was beginning to think the only way I'd reach level 25 would be to save up enough stone to craft my own staircases!
