I'm curious to find out what price point you would pick up a VR device for? Of course, Oculus Rift has come out with their $600+ pricetag, a price which I wouldn't purchase one at. Would you pick one up for that price? Do you even have an interest in VR at all?

I think I'd like to try before I buy ... or even set a price point at this stage. My only experience with VR is the Virtual Boy, so I have some emotional trauma that needs healing first.

Not interested, just another recycled fad (e.g 3D).

$100 - $250 is probably my trigger price for a purchase. Without Superhot and Alien Isolation it might be less but they showed that devs are prepared to support it AND do something unique.... well unique enough for me to bleeding edge it.

I put down < $100, because that's how much my current VR headset cost:

Not really interested in VR. It seems fundamentally gimmicky to me, it's not going to make games better mechanically. Also, personally I've been using less and less of my headphones because I'm goddamn sick of having to physically wear something to hear audio, so I favour speakers now. There's no way in hell I'm going to go backwards in that regard in the visual department. On top of all that, the performance requirements of a VR headset are similar to running two monitors, so frame-rate and graphical quality will suffer from using one, unless you have high end enthusiast hardware with a big overhead. I can't believe they want to do shit with them on fucking consoles, maximum kek. They'll be cracking out the super cinematic 480p, 15fps.

Ultimately it's just a superficial novelty with too many downsides to justify.

Note: I've never used a VR headset in my life so maybe I'm just wrong about everything, but the idea just doesn't excite me and as such I shall remain skeptical and dismissive.

I still use those headphones you recommended a year ago and they provide nice surround sound in games. Speakers aren't practical for me.

You know... Soma was being played in VR at PAX last year... I'd replay that in VR.

Tbh, for me, it all depends on how well they implemented it.

Superhot was the first game I played and that just wouldn't work in any form other than VR. Might not end up making for an incredible full game but it certainly demonstrates the different types of games that can be made. Not saying it won't make a great full game, however I only played ten minutes so it's hard to judge.

The second game I played was an Alien Isolation demo. I think it was made specifically for the VR demo. You're being hunted by an alien and must hide. It was fucking terrifying and, again, it used VR exceptionally well to add a sense of ambiance to the game it otherwise wouldn't have had. They did clever things like having to look down if you wanted to see a tool in your hand or change gadgets which was good. Especiially when you were trying to keep your eye on other shit going on.

So, yeah, I have higher hopes for VR than something like 3D which doesn't really add anything new to gamepay other than a different novelty perspective thing. The big innovative jump to 3D happened years ago when they started making 3D world games.

Around the $300-450 range or just as much as I'd pay for a monitor. But it really depends on the support, I'll likely get one if it's successful enough for a 2nd revision.

The experience and tech looks great. Though I'm not really interested in the Vive, even though it seems to provide the best experience out of the premium VR models, unless they make the set-up more simple/convenient than it is currently.

I think personally that provided the PSVR is around $400, I'll probably grab one.

And how do you know the price point? Isn't it still unannounced?

Not announced at all, I said provided that it is around $400, meaning, that... if... it's around $400, I'll grab one.
