Steam Sale Thread.

I figured that with the Steam sales happening often enough, it's worthwhile starting a thread for all the times the store has a sale where people can post the cheapest games/best suggestions for games to pick up.

This time round, I'm going to grab Undertale and possibly The Beginner's Guide.

They axed daily deals and just put hard discounts on everything.

They were probably sick of people asking for refunds after buying a game on sale at 33% off only to be bombarded by people requesting a refund a day or two later when the game goes on a daily deal at 50%.

I have a feeling that might be the case. I'm kinda glad they nixed the daily deals - not that it ever affected me as I never really buy all that much on Steam. I guess it'd be either - have the refund option and no daily deal, or have the daily deal and no refund. It's all Australia's fault.

I'm curious as well after reading the Destructoid article on the 'Best New IP's of 2015' and seeing the comments about The Beginner's Guide: http://www.destructoid.com/the-best-new-ips-of-2015-327259.phtml

People still haven't figured out how to buy from Steam sales with daily/hourly deals?

It is just easier to discount everything at once though.

Yeah the new system is far superior, it's way easier for consumers just to keep it at the same discount throughout the sales. Good riddance to daily deals.

People are mad that the lack of daily's kills the excitement....

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

So dumb. I prefer the new format so that I dont have to worry about missing anything and just go on with the holidays.

Any recommendations?

I want historical lows on sales as well.

Witcher 3 price is decent but unsure if it's been lower. Looking at life is strange and ori and the blind forest but I normally pull the trigger on 80% off.

Transistor any good? I liked their previous game, name escapes me right now.

Transistor is Excellent. Not sure if you'll like the combat in the game or how the upgrades work - which are the things that carry the game for the most part. It's semi-turn based and it requires you to set up your own loadout quite frequently.

I'm trying to guess what you'll like. Maybe look into:

DmC: $8.99 - though you might want to get the remaster on PS4/XB1
Alien: Isolation: $12
Metal Gear Rising: Revengence: $12 - More of a straight up action game than a stealth game. Doesnt require any knowledge of Metal Gear. Made by the Bayonetta/Vanquish people. It's so dumb, I love it.
Grim Fandango Remastered: $2.99 - Remaster of a classic point & click
Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition: $14 - Though I'm guessing you probably own this one
The Evil Within: $12 - Heard some mixed things about it. But it's as close to Resident Evil if you're looking for one.
Her Story: $3.60 - I highly recommend this to everyone, for its price and how unique it is despite being a straightforward/simple game, I could explain this one more if people want
Mirrors Edge: $4.99 - I've seen this cheaper. It's a game that holds up well and its visual design still looks spectacular. It's short and the sequel is coming soon so it's worth a visit now
Max Payne 3: $6.24 - Story heavy 3rd person shooter. Encounters/'set pieces' can be a little dry but it has one of the best 3rd person shooter mechanics.
Broken Age: $6.24 - Point & Click adventure that Moo hated
Shadow Warrior: $4 - Old School FPS that's fun and super corny. Not sure how it compares to Wolfenstein.
Grow Home: $5 - Jingles liked this one alot. It's supposedly an ambient driven exploration based platformer.

Thanks man, I actually own a few from the list you suggested but haven't got around to playing some or have already completed.

I value the suggestions more on the lesser known titles you mentioned. I've been playing alot more of these on my laptop lately, games like guacamelee and spelunky etc.

I've got my eye on Satellite Reign, Undertale, Pillars of Eternity, and Her Story. Since I don't have to worry about timed daily deals, I'll take my time to decide :)

Yeah, was thinking about getting Satellite Reign as well. But I figured I'd give it a miss until its cheaper.

Other than that the remaining games I wanted didnt go too big on a discount (I really wanted Axiom Verge, Velocity 2X and Jotun to go on a deeper discount but they didnt)

I haven't purchased any games from Steam as I decided to wait and see what this mess was that occured over Xmas. For me, the store went down, my Steam guard failed to work the following day and I haven't been receiving any emails for inventory sales or trades. Furthermore, people are claiming that some of their private info was leaked due to some caching issue. I haven't seen any communication from Valve about what really happened, so I've decided to wait and see.

That said, I've happily purchased a few things from GOG :)
