This game is so similar to Fallout 3. If you placed F3's HUD over F4's gameplay I couldn't tell the difference. It's good, but this is the first time I've been underwhelmed by a major Bethesda game. After The Witcher 3 and Phantom Pain, which pull off the same concepts in much better ways, this feels like a step into the past.

All this said, I walked off in the opposite direction of the story the moment I could and haven't seen any signs of civilization yet. I've just been surviving in the rundown wilderness of the map's west end. I've come across 1 non-hostile person in 4 hours of exploring.

I think he said something along the lines of "here's another specimen if we need one".

I'm finding it hard to get invested in Fallout 4 when I have StarCraft II sitting beside it demanding my attention. The start is just so slow and uninteresting. I get that they have to set the scene but blergh. Fallout NV did it best IMO. Straight into the fun stuff

A glitchy way to get the Cryolater (the gun behind a master lock in Vault 111) very early:

If only I had the ammo...

The game is pretty sweet. For some reason I don't look back on F3 very fondly when I actually put a shitload of hours into all the main game and expansions. I forgot how fun exploring the wasteland is. F4 is markedly better from a storytelling/character perspective, more like Mass Effect than F3. One cool thing is that if you leave the main quest path and go and do your own stuff before returning to it, you can let characters know that you've already been to a place or met someone or got something they're supposed to tell you about. Sometimes they'll point this out themselves (the guy who was supposed to give me power armour acknowledged I was already wearing some).

I'm still finding it a bit wierd choosing my characters lines then having the camera shift so I can see him say them. So used to the old format. Feels less... immersive

I want to go start a few more characters after hearing some of the names Codsworth knows how to say :)

Started last night. Spent four hours in the world. Had a lot of fun. Mostly walked around Sanctuary just trashing stuff to build a nice house. I didn't think I'd get into the creation thing, but... dammit... I want my town to be nice and well designed. I'm not entirely sure how to connect things with electricity though - any tips?

I then went and took on my first mission and got my power loader armour. Needless to say, I was mighty annoyed when the massive Deathclaw comes out of the ground. Killed my dog to start off with and I wasn't going to accept that. Reloaded and took him down.

The game's grown on me a lot. There are so many intriguing places I've passed by without exploring (either because I was weak or carrying too much stuff) or heard about from chatty residents in Diamond City. Just outside the city there's a creepy house with spooky music and an expert-locked basement door. I heard there's a vault somewhere filled with wary people who sometimes let wastelanders inside. This is what Bethesda does so well: what would be a frivolous dot on the map in Ass Creed is a tasty mystery in Fallout. And those tasty mysteries stack up and you become absorbed in the world.

Perhaps now is a good time to finally play Fallout 3.
Skip 3

Play New Vegas.

I really must play New Vegas. One of the worst things I've done was not play that years ago.

Too late. But I'm sure I will end up playing NV as well.

I'm kind of liking the random nature of the starred weapons. Managed to pick up an explosive round 10mm pistol, which I'm starting to realize is a little OP in some circumstances. I'm level 35 atm and still using it.
What's the best things you guys have found so far? I also picked up an unending sniper rifle which has no magazine size, which was pretty cool

The only gimmick weapon I've come across is the one that converts junk into ammo, which seems to be powerful or weak depending on the junk. I haven't used it much. I'm yet to come across a weapon that beefs me up significantly, and I can't afford or find much ammo for the really good ones. In terms of apparel, I'm currently dressed up like an elite Reddit user with black trenchcoat, black fedora and black shades.

I love what happens when you go back outside after the mission with Kellogg. I tried to follow the thing in question, but got distracted by a thousand other things and still haven't reached it hours later, though it is currently within viewing distance.

I'm currently on board the U.S.S. Constitution. The "choice" in this mission is hardly a choice if you have a soul. Either you're a heartless, greedy pig with no sense of adventure or you're not. I still haven't finished the mission and I'm very curious what's going to happen at the end. It's a very New Vegas-y kind of mission.
