There's a lot of love for Downwell but I'm just not feeling it. I think it's the positioning and style of the on screen buttons. Plan to give it a proper play when it's out on Vita as that feels like it would be the sort of input I'd like.

It's coming out on Vita? Interesting. I quite like the format. |

![]() The last of Dave's 'essential mobile games' list is up and ready to read here. You know, as much as I've seen Dave talk about and play Desert Golfing, I still haven't downloaded it. One day... |

I started playing Lara Croft Go. So far, it seems like a step backward from Hitman-Go, but perhaps it gets better. I much preferred the multiple objective system in Hit-Mango compared to the collectables in this game. |

There's on multi-objectives in this one. More just a path you need to discover to get to the end. Gets better as it goes along. |

Right. So while Hitman Go incentivised me to replay levels in different ways, Lara Croft Go incentivises me to play the levels the same way but spend more time hunting for collectables along the way. For many of the levels it feels like there is only one path through too. The game also feels a lot shorter. I've just killed the snake boss, and it looks like I'm pretty close to the end -- getting close to where the add-on starts. Despite my complaints, I'll probably still pick up Deus-Ex Go if/when they release it this year. |

Clash Royale. So much fun! I was initially hesitant as I'd mentally categorised it as a Farmville type cash cow (thank you advertising on ABC kids). Really clever game though and the match making is extremely fair! |

I finished off Lara Croft Go. The puzzles definitely got more challenging in the last chapter, but I still preferred Hitman Go over all. I missed the freedom of movement from that game: in this game, there were a number of levels where it took me ages to work out the opening moves for a level while constrained to a small number of squares. The game was also a lot shorter with much less replay value. It'd be nice if they released some new levels, but that seems unlikely at this point. |

I decided to buy my first mobile game! I could've gone with a cheap, guaranteed timesink like Sid Meier's Pirates or Game Dev Story. I almost bought The Room, which Chickan said was neat. Instead, I went with Device 6 because reviews harped on about its erudition and originality. Device 6 sucks! It's a shame because the visuals and sound are amazingly good. It's a mystery story where you scroll through the text and flip your phone around to follow the text down numerous trails. It's trippy, and the sounds that accompany the text as you read it are eerily on cue. It sets a foreboding mood early, it's promising... Unfortunately, it builds to a dry fart of an ending and nothing of note happens in-between. Also, you have to complete offensively bad puzzles that rely on obscure wordplay and paper-and-pad memorisation; I cheated through nearly the whole thing out of impatience. I can't fault the aesthetic but avoid this crud. |

I recommend The Room. The first one is probably cheap now. The idea of the mechanical puzzle box has always been really cool to me and The Room does it well. I actually just finished it like two weeks ago. Started on the second one and it seems just as good |

Pity they don't have a bundle for all 3 plus the DLC. Although it would probably be priced too high for those who aren't 100% anyway |

Got my Samsung Galaxy S7 yesterday and tried out the video recording functionality. It works really well. A pity it's at a lower resolution, but I'm hopeful that that's something that'll get worked around at a later stage, or I just haven't got a setting right. |

I gave the Pokemon Go beta a bit of a play during yesterday and today's lunch. Most of the screens are watermarked to help detect the source of leaks, so I'm not sharing any screenshots. On my first walk, I hadn't read any of the documentation on the support site, so was a bit lost. It took me a while to work out how to throw a ball at a pokemon and even longer to work out how to restock supplies from a pokestop. I claimed a few gyms for Team Blue yesterday, and had one of them captured by Team Red which I reclaimed today by killing someone else's pokemon. So did anyone else get invites? |

Murderer! Nope, no invite here, but I also didn't apply. |
