A little bit different than the 'What Are You Currently Playing' thread in that this is just for mobile games. I'm currently making my way through some of the Humble Bundle Mobile games and have started on Strata which is a nice little relaxing 'puzzle' game in the form of basket weaving. Nice colours and soothing music make it a simple and easy game to play with some challenging, but not overly so, puzzles along the way. |

Strata's an awesome game. I think Red Panda was the one who put me onto that a couple of years back

Yeah, super nice. Figured I'd launch into something nice and soothing before I try out the Android version of Neverending Nightmares. |

I did catch your review, but I had my eye on it before after playing Hitman GO

For those interested, Dave has written up a four part series on recommended mobile games. Part one covers Strategy, Runners and Tower Defense. Part two covers Racing and Puzzle games. Parts three and four will be out in the next fortnight. |

I started playing Hitman Go after the recommendations, and picking it up when it was on sale. I've completed the first two level sets (although missed a few objectives in the second set), and am enjoying it so far. I'm not sure how I feel about them selling hints as microtransactions though. I used up a few while exploring the UI, and it wasn't at all clear that they were a premium resource. |

I haven't jumped into Hitman Go yet, but I know with Lara Croft Go that the hints were optional purchases. You didn't get any bundled with the game itself so if you required a hint you were shit out of luck (or, just didn't have access to the internet to search a walk through). |

Hitman Go starts you off with a few hints, so you never see the "give me money" screen initially. I had been searching for a way to find out what the optional objectives for the current level were, and clicking the light globe icon seemed to show icons related to those objectives. I was surprised that clicking them seemed to restart the level and switch it to black and white, and I'd used up a few of these hints before I worked out what was going on. I'm not that bothered, since it's more fun to work things out on my own. I haven't yet found a level I couldn't complete (even if I haven't managed all optional objectives). And the way you don't have to complete every level before moving to a new set presumably means I could unlock most of the game without too much trouble. |

Loved Hitman GO Indy (my 8 year old) wasn't happy I picked PvZ over PvZ2 in my top mobile games list so I've been playing a bit of PvZ2 to see if it's any better. They've made a bunch of improvements but it's still a skewed experience. I'm currently playing Jurassic Marsh and they have a bunch of dinosaurs thatn randomly appear and shuffle the positions of zombies on the field. This is an annoying concept to have for a strategic game! |

Sucks that you're limited to picking a few games from each genre. Because the Smartphone app stores are loaded with great puzzle games. Can vouch for Strata. There's also LYNE, which is also excellent despite being similar (It's also made by an Australian, which is a bonus). I still like the OG Threes, even though there's countless amounts of clones of the game. - Most recently Crashlands has been alot of fun, it's this odd Dont starve/Pokemon/Terraria hybrid that has a more traditional and accessible narrative structure. It's pretty funny too and the combat is surprisingly good. Downwell, 88 Days and Lara Croft GO were probably my favourite smartphone games last year. Edited by Red Panda, Feb 13 2016, 09:58 AM.
