It might be an APC (I'm not sure what that is). There's a picture that looks like a tank but that's all I have to go on.
An APC has traditional tyres. Tanks run on treads since they're too heavy for tyres to support. It seems like those Armoured Unit side ops have the APCs and the Tank Unit has the tank.

There seems to be two kinds of APC's that I have found in the game, one has an Anti Air gun at the back and the other just has a regular mounted cannon. There are two types of tanks I found, one seemingly slower/heavier than the other (Which I used to get through that valley with the parasite snipers in a dank way). I believe there are two kinds of trucks and two kinds of 4x4s.

I've stopped at mission 29 and trying to rebuild before the next mission. I've went back to redo some of the previous missions again (at least, the non-skulls ones) and S-Ranking them, picking up blueprints I may have missed and doing the side objectives. I'm surprised how different some missions turned out after tacking them at different times of day and at a different pace.

Armoured Personnel Carrier? I thought that was just a fancy name for tanks though. Maybe they're just tanks without that cannon thing.

I really wanna play this game. I guess it's time to grit my teeth and splurge $850 on a PS4. I suppose I could get it on Steam, but I've always associated this series with consoles. It would feel weird playing it on my laptop. Besides, I also want Bloodborne and Until Dawn.
If you're really desperate to play it, It's on X360 and PS3 also. You need a pretty solid PC to play MGSV and I dont think the laptop will cut it.

Also, you're completely missing out on Dreamfall: Chapters :>, it's in its 3rd episode. And each episode after the 1st is surprisingly lengthy and substantial.

Oh, I've definitely got my eye on Dreamfall Chapters, though I'm trying to wait until the 4th ep is released. I sense that playing the first 3 and then waiting months till the next ones will leave me unfulfilled. I'm thinking of playing Grim Fandango in the meantime, though I would prefer something more modern yet substantial. Anything like that you could recommend? I'm not in the mood for one of those minimalistic indie games just now.

Both my 360 and PS3 are gathering dust halfway across the world from me. Wish I'd brought the PS3 with me, though it seemed like an unnecessary hassle at the time. I had no idea I'd be staying this long.

Did you ever end up playing Dark Souls?

I'm going to use a walkthrough for one mission, which I hate doing. The mission is STROTMOF, which I acronymed for spoiler reasons. All you have to do is gather an item, but despite killing everyone and exploring the base I can't find it. Interrogations didn't reveal anything.

EDIT: Oh it was right there. I was literally standing right next to it for a while wondering where it was.

If you're into the old Resident Evil games then I would recommend the remaster of the first game. It came out recently and should be able to run on just about anything.

I never bother having him stay because if the guards see him it doesn't raise their suspicion anyway. They just tell him to shoo if he gets too close. He has no effect on your likelihood of being spotted.
Unless he bumps into the guy your following, causing them to turn around and spot you :p

If you're looking for an Adventure game there's Life is Strange. It's up to the 4th episode and the finale is due out next month. It's a weird mix of Twin Peaks in a modern teen fiction setting. The way it approaches exposition through its atmospheric setting is its strongest quality. The narrative has been pretty gripping, with a fair few twists and turns and while there are some questionable gameplay sequences, it barely repeats them as it tends to try something different in each episode.

Then there are the Telltale games. Not sure if you've played any, but look up Wolf Among Us if you havent played that.

The Talos Principle is worth checking out if you're after a puzzle game. It's quite substantial in length, even though its not as varied in puzzle design as something like Portal 2. But it's quite clever, utilizing its mostly simple puzzle devices to present complex and often difficult puzzles. It has a wonderful setting and tone that I liked.

Since I assume you intend to use your laptop, maybe check out any of the CRPG revivalist titles. Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity or Shadowrun: Dragonfall. They should run on about anything. A quick summary of the three: Wasteland 2 is a throwback to the old Fallout games. Pillars of Eternity tries to capture the old infinity engine games (Baldurs Gate, Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale) and Shadowrun Dragonfall is abit of its own thing mechanically, but it has some of the best writing I've come across in a game.

Oh wow, it really is unfinished. Dear God. A great game, but what a poor note for the series' story to go out on.

Even so, the ending sucks and would've sucked if the whole story was there. Unfortunately this game has the worst storyline of the main series, though I haven't played 4. The annoying thing is that the pieces are there. It peeks at war atrocities and the corruption of power, but never delves. Even by MGS standards it's idiotic. It feels like fan fiction. What should be a minor plot point in the parasite thing takes up reams and reams of thoroughly boring cassette tapes. A bunch of plot threads are left dangling. To the story's credit, Huey is an intriguing character, Miller has his moments, it's got Kojima's unique sense of humour and quirky takes on Americana, and the game has excellent action scenes (the start of mission 30!).

It's definitely got the best gameplay in the series. My second fave game this year after GOTY Bloodborne.

Haha, we're like polar opposites with MGS, 4 is the only one I've played coming into this.

I agree (at least I think I do, having not played the first 3) that 5 has better gameplay. 4 had quite good gameplay honestly, but I do find 5 more consistently enjoyable and considerably more addicting. 4 also took control from the player a shitload with it's intrusive cutscenes, for my tastes (and the fact that I'm not invested in the series' story, so I don't mind that it's missing as much) it's better the way it is in 5. 98% of the game is actual gameplay, where 4 felt like it was about 40% gameplay, 60% cutscenes.

I do like Kojimas quirkiness and sense of humour, which really stood out in 4 to me as a newcomer, it's cool that it's still in 5. Despite the fact that 4's balance of cutscene to game was just way fucking off, the direction and tone was always just so profound that despite not knowing what the fuck was going on I remember thoroughly enjoying it anyway. I mostly remember the game's commentary on war profiteering etc. I think I actually quoted it in an essay I wrote in yr 12 at the time, haha. That's the biggest quality that's missing from 5 for me, so many strange, interesting character encounters and supernatural events just don't seem to happen at the rate they did in 4. It feels like you're going through the motions of the missions, amassing power and upgrading gear (as enjoyable as that is).

I don't know what to think about how blatant and unapologetic Quiet's whole deal is. On one hand, I'm not complaining because it's a nice view. However, it's a shining example just how juvenile gaming is; it's pretty blatant sexism. Ultimately I'm not very invested (but not actively against) video games maturing and becoming a more "legit" medium, I'm kinda happy where they are, so I don't care about Quiet being offensive too much... I can see where people are coming from, though. Their concerns seem valid.

Also, is it just me or does the game get a bit easier in Africa? It just feels like you have more space surround you to exploit.

I don't think the game is ever easy like The Witcher 3 becomes, but the research developments contribute to the easiness over time. The issue with the open world setting is that it's very hard to marry the sense of freedom to the focused level design of previous games. Your arsenal is an issue, as is the amount of space. They are not issues if you care about side objectives within main missions or eliminating targets via Fulton -- goals which require stealth and planning -- but if that doesn't interest you, I wonder how many of these missions can be undone with a rocket launcher or sniper rifle. A later mission requires you to re-do the Quiet fight under "EXTREME" conditions (one-hit kills, you can't defeat you her with the gimmick anymore), and it seemed well thought out until I realized I could just plop a tank in the centre of the battlefield, wait until she shot the tank or until I saw the glint, and bomb her constantly. There are some abilities I rarely used like Air Support and Quiet, but I feel they, along with sandstorms which completely negated the stealth in two late missions for me...negate the stealth to an extent.

I wouldn't have minded if a bunch of the main missions took place separate from the main maps with conditions imposed so that there were no easy outs.

Keep in mind I think it's the best stealth game I've played. It's so close to being to stealth what Bloodborne is to combat, but it doesn't quite get there.

Also, I suspected that black South Africans working along side white South Africans as military in the mid 80s was historically questionable. I was also unsure about them speaking Afrikaans. I asked a South African friend of mine (the undeniable ultimate historical authority), it's not that uncommon that they'd speak Afrikaans but she agreed that military employment likely wouldn't have been the case.

0/10 WHITEWASHED BULLSHIT HISTORY WOULD NOT PLAY

No idea if it's accurate, but it takes place in Zaire, known today as the Congo.

I do think the game gets much easier once you get to Africa. The terrain is alot denser and less barren with alot more shrubbery to hide within. But It's more of the case that the research options you have just advance faster than what the enemies can keep up with in terms of their gear, with more tools, silent equipment and item longevity at your disposal.

With Quiet, I think people just got more disappointed with the character because she's pretty badass from a gameplay standpoint. She has a knack for getting you out of sticky situations and being incredibly clutch. The mechanics tied to her creates some pretty interesting emergent gameplay moments with the coverage she provides. And that gives her more of a character that some people got attatched to despite her not ever saying a word, barely showing expression or just being blatant man-bait.

Also, theres a clothing option to unlock an XOF uniform, I think she looks more swag and badass in it.

I think I finished the main story last night. Pretty poor ending for such a strong series. Overall the game is great tho :)
