You can just jump straight into this one, or at least play Ground Zeroes, which is really short. MGS4 is mostly about Solid Snake and how MGS3's origin ties into 1 and 2, by pretty much retconning everything and everyone into it.

While it's not necessary, MGS: Peace Walker is more 'essential' than MGS4 if you want abit of a headway into MGSV as it gives abit of a background to Miller and Big Boss' intentions with creating a private army, with the same goals continuing into MGSV.

But if you've played MGS3, it's a pretty good start, at least. You play the same character as that. MGSV's story is also seemingly thin compared to how much gameplay segments are delivered to you.

Found out a pretty nifty trick you can do with that device. If you see a container and have it upgraded so that they can be captured, you can hop on top of it, use the fulton at the very centre so that when it lifts, the platform is even, an activate key pops up to hold onto it and you'll be transported back to the chopper without running to and waiting around for the chopper.
I find out stuff like this and kick myself for not having figured it out myself.

I also unlocked my first FOB, but I'm confused by it. I organized it so it would have 12 guards and a number of other things, but when I gave it a test run the place was empty. I only came across one decoy guard and that was it.

Not sure how it works either, particularly with the stuff like placing security cameras etc.

I think that setting is just the allocation per platform based on how many people you have assigned on your security unit and not the combat unit. I dont actually have many people assigned to the security team as most of all the excess waiting room staff went into other units once I acquired the FOB and built platforms for it.

Also, pretty sure most know this trick already, but if you're just running around doing side ops or free roam and completed a side op, or run into a save checkpoint, you can just go back to the ACC by just pressing start and using the option there. No need to call for the chopper and use GMP. You cant do it in actual missions, though.

I haven't played the game, but watched some videos. Does Kojima know that the Fulton recovery system doesn't work like that?

Does he know time doesn't slow down when enemies spot you?

I don't think that's really comparable, since it is more of a game play mechanic.

A more accurate portrayal of the Fulton system could have looked pretty cool. You'd still be attaching a balloon to random dudes, but rather than it lifting them off the ground, only the balloon would rise, with a line attached to the target on the ground. Then have a plane fly through the line, jerking the target upward.

A lot of the time you need to use the Fulton quickly to avoid/escape enemies, which might be why they altered it. The series has always been as liberal with technology as it has with history. The Metal Gear from MGS1 is a bipedal monster machine that can run, jump and launch nukes in 2005.

I like this game
This game is good
When I boot it up
It gives me wood

Yeah I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Like GZ it runs at 99.9% flawless 60fps on near max settings (with 3 settings turned down to High) which I think is great seeing as my rig is only a midrange system. That's probably partially due to it being on the 360 and PS3, though. It still looks great.

As for gameplay, it's pretty fucking sweet so far, it's drip feeding me new shit and really gives the impression that you've just scratched the surface of "stuff". The prologue honestly had me concerned with not only the silly stealth incidents but how cut-scene laden it was. It's been 6 years since I played 4, so I had forgotten how liberally that game takes control away from the player and forces you to watch these kinda awkward, kinda questionably written and directed scenes. However, since the game more or less has set me free it's been actually fairly minimal to my delight.

I like that you don't have to remark things when restarting from a checkpoint, even if the checkpoint is before you marked them. I can see how that may rustle a jimmy or two of some more anal people, but I think it would have been hugely arduous. A good game design decision. I'll praise the streamlining / relaxing of any mechanic that isn't strongly related to difficulty and is just busywork.

One thing I don't like is grading systems. I don't need the game to tell me after I complete a mission relatively cleanly (in my disgusting casual non-stealth gamer mind) that I got a D and will never compare to glorious nippon silly baka.
Fuck_Giver.exe has stopped working!
Does it matter how I write the truth?

Well, you're talking about a franchise that has featured a Vampire. Some guy that communes with bees. Someone that controls lightning. Some guy that photosythesizes with the sun. A franchise that features a talking cat, someones arm taking over a persons psyche. I dont even want to bring up Metal Gear Rising.

In the very first mission, there is an encounter with zombies. There is a man on fire and a fire whale. There is a collectible cassette tape of the 1999 remaster of Rebel Yell in a game set in 1982. Bionics scanning in the 1980s. Tablet holograms with gesture controls in the 1980s.

And you only point out the inaccuracies of the Fulton? e_e

Most satisfying thing I've done so far: Took out a chopper by planting C4 onto an unconscious enemy and timing a fulton extraction to collide with the choppers patrol path.

Let me reiterate that Quiet's constant humming is a poop oversight that, to me, is like nails running down a chalkboard. Maybe it's less distracting if you're not wearing headphones, but I am and it's the dominant sound. She's supposed to hum to indicate she has someone in her sights but the recording loops so long as they remain in her sight. I want her as a buddy so I can befriend her in case she has a side-story you unlock, and so I can unlock the tranq sniper, but this is pain to me.

I've just gotten used to Quiet's humming. Maybe it's how I generally play where she's not constantly doing it. I usually get her to scout and take shots where I wont need to use my tranq sniper to conserve the suppressor (I dont use the tranq pistol anymore, I take the water pistol instead). Once things get thinned out, I just use the cover command which just makes her fire enemies close to you as I actively clean out tighter areas and fulton things.
