Just found out that the game has fast travel.

e_e

Can bounce around between outposts (risky) and platforms in your motherbase.

It's like Far Cry 3 in the sense that there's an open world with enemy bases that you infiltrate wih a combination of action and stealth, with emphasis on stealth. There are also vehicles and gadgets and stuff.

Incidentally, I used a gift voucher yesterday to buy Far Cry 4. I wanted Tropical Freeze but it was sold out :(
Tropical Freeze is great.

I'm playing Mad Max right now and that has quite a bit of action/stealth to take down enemy bases. I might grab MGSV when it goes down to $50.

Biggest issue I have with the game is how it handles saves. It's... odd. The actual areas in the world doesnt save and load in the same way as all the progress through menu items. It's at its worst when you're at motherbase.

Other than that, it's easy to nitpick little things, particularly with the contextual controls and brief moments of waiting and loading that add up during a game so expansive.

There's just things I wish the game had. I'd have liked more tapes with exposition. I like the format in how you can digest them when you want over the codec calls. But it seems to deliver infrequently after a few missions or so. The addition of non-hostile outposts or 'towns' is sorely needed. I know there are daily patrol cycles and routines but it's just more hostile guards to engage, eliminate, interrogate or recruit. Having abit more non-hostility would give the areas more life than they currently have. I also think there should have been more to the motherbase than just campy soldier banter. All the upgrade systems are well done and I'd take how it can be accessed anywhere. It's just that whole 'building up' just echoes what the Normandy or Skyhold offered in WioBare games, providing an engaging break in between missions which the motherbase seems to lack outside a rare cutscene.

I realized why Snake doesn't talk much. It's because you can send anyone on the Mother Base staff on a mission in his place. I don't know if it applies to all missions (I haven't even tried it yet), but that explains it.

What do you mean by fast travel? I only know about the orange pick-up stations at outposts, and obviously helicopter pick-ups. How do you jump between platforms at Mother Base beyond calling the helicopter? Agreed that the Base feels quite hollow, but it doesn't bother me that the world is hostile. That said, the series doesn't have a boner for war like Call of Duty does and hasn't been shy about exploring the horrors of war in the past, so having villagers inside the warzone could've allowed for some bold narrative decisions. On that note, I still haven't seen a child soldier where are they! Gameplay-wise, there's so much variety that it hasn't felt repetitive to me yet, with the exception of capturing backwater outposts.

It's the one sound she makes and it's goddamn annoying as well as distracting. Also as someone who only kills when killing's necessary she's not useful until she gets the tranq sniper, which I'm not willing to work towards. D-Dog is my favourite buddy, followed by D-Horse when you've got to tail people.

It was annoying at first, but I've gotten accustomed to Quiet humming. I've been pretty much mostly using quiet now, unless its a mission with alot of enclosed space. She's quite clutch. I have had some pretty close calls and memorable plays that were pulled together. Can shoot helmets off people, can make for a good distraction during combat alerts, shoot grenades mid-air to furthen the distance thrown and sometimes leaves supplies in her position.

I take D-Dog or will call for D-Dog dropped if the situation demands it. D-Dog is better in enclosed spaces and just to track all sorts of bodies, or mines.

I dont see any need for the Horse since I only see the use for D-Horse if you want to cover alot of ground, but you can always just deploy with a vehicle, it doesnt cost anything and you get it back if it wasnt destroyed.

D-Walker is too expensive to upgrade and deploy each time. Though, I've seen some pretty cool late game stuff that you can do with it.

I didn't think to use a vehicle, but I think D-Horse can cover wilder terrain more smoothly, allowing for shortcuts when you need to get somewhere quick. Unfortunately there's little else he's useful for. Quiet is better if you don't mind killing people. At this point I'm trying my best not to kill. It's thrilling when you manage to extract the heavily guarded VIPs you're supposed to eliminate and very rewarding for your base.

I only use Quiet for side ops. Got her up to having a silenced lethal sniper now but I've had too many occasions where she's shot an enemy I wanted to capture right out of my hands.
DD FTW, most useful buddy by far. Although I must admit I've come to rely way too much on him marking targets for me :)

Just started playing, welcomed by 8'000 messages about online shit that I have no idea what it's talking about.

I have to ask, are some of these cutscenes supposed to unbelievable on purpose? The scene under the hospital bed was just ridiculous, how are you not seen??
Fuck_Giver.exe has stopped working!
Does it matter how I write the truth?

Because you are Big Boss, the best stealth man ever.

I actually think the moment just after that is more ridiculous, when you and the other guy are playing dead while the soldiers inspect the bodies but you're breathing with your whole body and have your head up.

In the actual game the soldiers will check under beds if they are on alert.

How much time do I need to spend with this game before I can float goats into space?

About two hours. Surprisingly, with the exception of binoculars you use that device more than any other. I thought it was just a gimmick based on the promo stuff but it's invaluable and you constantly use it.

The game is pretty much Metal Gear Solid V: The Fulton Pain.

Found out a pretty nifty trick you can do with that device. If you see a container and have it upgraded so that they can be captured, you can hop on top of it, use the fulton at the very centre so that when it lifts, the platform is even, an activate key pops up to hold onto it and you'll be transported back to the chopper without running to and waiting around for the chopper.

I just unlocked all the Forward Operating Base content. All of a sudden I have so much room for recruitment staff... Havent been raided yet (it's apparently rare unless you have plenty of S+ rank staff). But having another base to upgrade and build platforms at a reasonable cost again is nifty.

The more I hear you guys talk about this game the more I feel it's nothing like any of the ones I've played (1-3). Should I play #4 before getting this? Or just jump straight to this one?
