A thread for any who play Destiny. I know there is a bit of chatter on the AD Gamers Facebook group but not sure if you guys play. If you do I'd love it if you'd join our group.

https://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Forum/1162016

You can be in as many groups as you like but only one clan per platform. I've just started the group and clan so not sure how rewarding the clan membership will be just yet.

I tried to play solo, but it wasn't very engaging...or perhaps it was Peter Dinklage's voice acting that turned me off.

I also tried to play it but the PS4 disc wouldn't read on my PC.
Fuck_Giver.exe has stopped working!
Does it matter how I write the truth?

Game suuuucks.

Has time gated cooldowns like phone games

Is a gear treadmill through repetitive content.

Bullet sponges as bosses.

Challenges how compulsive you are, rather than challenge via gameplay.

I think Destiny's biggest mistake is that it doesn't explain itself well... at all! You shouldn't have to dig or speak to others to learn how you're meant to play and progress.

MJ - It's not really designed to be played solo. I did, however, play up until the end of Venus (where you fight the gatelord boss) a few times solo and didn't mind it.

RP - The timed cooldowns work in with the weapon perks and stats. While it doesn't make much practical sense in the game world I like the character customisation options it allows. E.g. I have a hunter and, when I'm playing gunslinger, better strength allows for faster cooldown on my throwing blades. I have gear setup so that crit kills or grenade damage refills my knives and rigged my gunslinger so that he has two knives and an auto refresh if I get a crit kill with a kniife. By taking a little longer and planning knife throws I can effectively have an unending supply of knives which makes me super powerful

Admittedly you could do that without timed cooldowns but they're like that to prevent spamming. Imagine if GW2 had no cooldowns. Destiny's system is, obviously, far less complex than Guild Wars - I'm not trying to make that comparison - but it's a more action focused game.

Gear treadmill - Yes it is. Again the specs of weapons, ability to reset traits, and levelling up a weapon with XP gained make that interesting ot me. Can see how it'd be a deterrant though.

Bullet Sponges - The bullet sponge bosses I quite like. There's a huge difference between hitting a critical and a normal shot. I also like how it introduces gameplay where you must work to simultaneously wear down a boss' health whilst fending off waves of enemies.

IMO Destiny becomes a much better game after level 20 (when it moves from XP levelling to loot levelling and XP is used for weapon/armour enhancement). This is when all the strikes and raids open up and the coop nature really sets in. Everything before that is just a poorly done intro.

Oh and I also love the gun mechanics of the game. Just feels really nice.

If anyone's interested our main editor, Greg, wrote an article explaining some of the finer points of Destiny - much of the stuff the game fails to explain by itself.

Destiny has – for the right or wrong reasons – been on the receiving end of a lot of vitriol since its release in September 2014. So much so that there’s almost a solid divide between those that seem to hate the game outright and those who love it. On release, the game received a tepid response from critics (undeservedly, in my opinion), who claimed it was somewhat mediocre. This may or may not have been due to overhyping by Bungie, the developers behind Destiny – the expectations for the game were huge given their FPS pedigree (they created the Halo series), and the massive budget that was bandied about.

Destiny is about to enter its second year with the release of The Taken King this September, so I thought I’d take a look at Destiny – what is it exactly, and why do people seem to hate it so much? More importantly, though, I’m hoping to help potential new players understand the game better, as its biggest flaw is in its inability to explain itself or its mechanics.

Stopped reading at undeservably. Anyway, so the game is actually decent after you spend time to get to level 20. With 'bullet sponge' enemies (the term usually means, poor enounters), so um no thanks.

Bullet sponge BOSSES. Enemies are all one hit kills if you hit their critical points.

With the Lich Taken King (or whatever it's called) expansion that's been released, do you get the core game with it if you buy that or do you have to buy Destiny AND the Lich Taken King expansion?

You can buy just the expansion on the PSN store but that requires the first game.

The Taken King Legendary Edition is for sale in a phsyical version and contains the first game, all expansions, some bonus content, and the expansion.

Played some "new" Destiny last night (yeah it took me this long to get time)... gotta say that the year 2 stuff kinda feels like a kick in the teeth to those who played a lot of year 1.

1 - The price of the expansion for early adaptors was $70 vs $100 for those who just wanted to buy everything and get bonus gear now. Not a big thing but it felt about $20 too expensive

2 - As a reward for playing to a certain point in year 1 I received a bunch of stuff. An emblem, an exotic weapon, some armor, some items, etc. However it wasn't long before I realised that low level green drops were significantly more powerful than the top tier exotics I had from Destiny 1. I've now got none of my gear from the first year and am all in new kit. Not because it's better gear - but because they nerfed all the old stuff to the point it's worse than common drops now.

Will be interesting to see if this affects how dedicated Destiny players will be over this year. Why fight, save, and grind for the top tier weapons when they'll be nerfed in 12 months as the new content is released? Never known a game to do this before.

No MMO I've played has ever done it to this extent. The very first standard weapon I picked up was better than the rarest exotic I'd had from a week before.

You mustn't have played many MMO's then, that always happens.
