Also, the game never explains how to play dice poker, and there's a story quest that requires you to win. There's no explanation in the tutorial stuff and I've had to look it up online. EDIT: Okay, so it's basically poker with symbols. I agree with most people's assessment that the game is very hard at the start but becomes really easy all of a sudden. I've barely had any problems during the second chapter. The combat is fun though. Now that I've complained a bunch, something I DO like is the simmering tension in the second chapter. I like how the blood curse, the mist and the conspiracy quests bounce off of each other. If feels Game of Thrones-ish, as if a bunch of different factors are about to bubble to the surface and huge stuff's going to go down. Edited by Moo, Jun 21 2015, 08:47 PM.

Yeah, I remember leaving a pub with a few dwarves and each one opened the door, walked through and closed it on the person behind. Thanks for holding the door, guys... |

Just finished the game. Spoiler: click to toggle It's times like this that I'm glad I don't play games for story, otherwise I'd be pretty upset how pretty much every fucking thing went wrong for me. ... Nah, I'm still kinda upset. |

Fuck it, doing a second partial play-through to get the ultimate ending. I'm too dissatisfied with the ending I got to walk away from it. I wisely left saves throughout the game, and I have one right before the earliest major wrong decision that I made. It's not outrageously far back, either, I'm level 21 at that point. |

Lol I remember that! Even more annoying when there wasn't a door and you had to wait as each person walked up, the camera shifted, and they slowly walked through

I bought TW3 and have nearly finished TW2. I'm up to the point where you have to choose between finding Triss or helping Roche find Anais (I'll choose the latter because Roche and I have been through thick and thin -- I let him kill Henselt and even took the blame for it). I felt the story picked up considerably after the first chapter and I'm enjoying the political machinations, particularly the rivalry between those two Temerians at Loc Muinne. I was surprised when I went off the beaten path in the nearby forest, travelling through a nekkar cave and stumbling upon two swords that were twice as powerful as my current ones. I do hope the next game has some of Skyrim's atmospherics and real roleplay feel. I haven't really had a moment that sticks out in memory like with Skyrim. The story is obviously much better. The game feels like a much better Dragon Age to me, but it also seems like I'll forget about it quickly. Edited by Moo, Jun 25 2015, 01:54 PM.

I ended up saving Triss because I accidentally started the mission. Now Radovid has made Roche a wanted man for reasons unknown and he hasn't appeared since. I hope he doesn't die because he's my fave. |

Finished it. Good game, not great, but I mostly enjoyed it. I like how the story is set for the sequel, which I'll start tonight. I don't know if there's more than one ending (post-credits) but I got the ending where an army from the south (Nilfgaard I assume) unleashes on the North and aggressively expands. I was happy that Roche didn't die. I let Sile, Letho and the dragon all live, while Dethmold got away. |

There was a light breeze and I was wondering why you guys thought the tree effects were so cool, but then there was a storm and, alongside the sounds, that was amazing and Skyrim-ish. I'm playing on the third highest difficulty where meditation doesn't restore HP, meaning I have to hunt for food or purchase it. I was surprised to see that refusing payment for a couple of contracts has left me poor and unable to buy simple things. I'm not sure if that's just because it's early in the game, but it's about time someone made an RPG where cash isn't limitless and everywhere. I don't think I'll be so kind to the next impoverished contractor I come across... I like this a lot so far. My only complaint is that the 'time played' says 11 hours, which is about 7 hours too many. One question: I chose to have a simulated Witcher 2 save but didn't get the dialogue option yet. Does it occur a few hours in? I'm still in the countryside. Edited by Moo, Jun 26 2015, 02:28 AM.

How come you chose simulated save? Won't that mean a few things like Roach's location and "political status" are out of whack for you? |

Yeah the weather is great in this game. Though, I'm curious what you mean it was like Skyrim. Regarding meditation, I played on normal the entire way through. Meditating not healing you is likely only going to be relevant early since the major function of meditating is to restore your potions. Having to eat food just sounds arduous to me. All you're going to end up doing once you get swallow is use it to heal up and then meditate to refill it. This process consumes alcohol, though, however I never ran out once in the entire 115 hours my first play through took. Food is pretty pointless, but I guess you would find use for it if it meditating isn't healing you and you don't wanna waste potions. The problem is that you're not going to want to waste an item slot on food when you have things like thunderbolt and decoctions, so you're going to have to open up the inventory manually to eat food, which even with a mouse would get annoying fast, let alone with a controller. This is the kinda thing that makes me thoroughly reject the "Hardest / harder difficulty is always best!" mentality that some people have, because it doesn't always make the game better. In some cases like this it just adds pointless busywork. Can't we just assume Geralt eats and takes the proper course to heal himself during his meditation and move on? Maybe we should include a hygiene mechanic in the game while we're at it. If you smell too bad you can't There's already tons of shit to do and see without arbitrarily making the player have to worry about food. I found the combat quite spot on in normal difficulty as well, not super punishing but not a cake walk, either. It's certainly a lot more challenging than Assassin's Creed. If you need to challenge yourself you can just do a quest before you're the recommended level. My room-mate also rejected money a lot and ended up poor. I think I turned down a reward once later in the game, because I really felt a lot more sorry for them than all of the farmers (I was also fairly well off by then), and I finished the game with 42'000 crowns. I also bartered up the price every chance I got. And yeah, the ingame timer seems to be way off. I have the opposite issue, mines way too low. Edited by Doomguy, Jun 26 2015, 01:02 PM.
