Can't be assed taking a photo, but I'm playing with my 360 cunt roller. I played the first two with KBAM but I'd heard that 2 was actually quite good with a controller (read: designed to be played with one) so I decided to play 3 with a controller. Pretty happy with how it plays, feels better than I remember 2 feeling with KBAM.

@moo, is your game patched to the latest version? What are your system specs? Have you tried running it as administrator, as well as running as little background programs as possible while playing?

I don't have the specs at the moment. I installed through GoG so I assume I have the latest patch, and I don't have any other programs open while playing. One thing I did note is that the game couldn't run something called 'Changelist 1', which my firewall was blocking. I unblocked it, but it didn't fix the issue. The game runs fine in window mode (but the screen is too small).

If you can figure out how to play it in borderless window mode, that might be a good compromise.

I have no idea what the problem is, but fullscreen only works if I'm connected to the Internet. I was trying to play in my room last night, which is out of the wifi's range. It's working fine with Internet though. It must be trying to process something that requires an Internet connection, and the game crashes when the process doesn't finish.

The impression I'm getting from reading about The Witcher 3 is that, like the Souls series, there is an immense level of detail down to a molecular level, but the game doesn't flaunt it and is content if you don't even notice it.

I'm gonna stick with TW2, of course, but at this point it feels like an appetizer to the main meal. I'll definitely buy it on the PS4 though. Even if it did run on my laptop, it wouldn't be pretty.

I find it difficult to cast spells in battle because I have to take my hand off the mouse to reach over to the numbers. I get that I can set a spell to Q but I like to use multiple spells.

I like the combat, but I find that when I get attacked by multiple enemies I have to evade them until there's an opening, land a couple of shots, and roll away. It's very defense oriented. I really need a sword upgrade too because I'm barely scratching enemies and I'm still only in Flotsam Forest.
How are you moving the character?

I cant remember how TW2 controlled with M/KB, but I assume you moved with WASD; the number keys are right there on top.

I think it was The Witcher 2's terrible M/KB UI lead me to move to using a controller in the end

I move with WASD, but even if I cast spells with my left hand, the keys are 5-8, meaning I'd have to stop moving to reach over. I feel safer moving while casting than stopping to aim with the mouse. It's not a big deal; it just makes things harder than they might be with a controller.

I don't have the device for using a controller though, and don't feel like springing for one.

Yeah I doubt it would, my desktop (which is a few years old but still decent I thought) can barely run it on low.

Is there something fundamental about the combat I'm not doing? I'm doing one of the earliest side missions where you need to explore a cave just outside Flotsam. The first room has about 12 nekkar and it's impossible to take them on with the sword because they swarm on me immediately. The only tactic that works is evading and using fireballs (which I nearly pulled off), but surely there's something less shit I could be doing? Parrying is useless in this instance because I get hit from all sides the moment I start swinging. EDIT: I wasn't utilizing daggers and bombs.

The game's autosave system is crap: I had to redo a mission because it didn't save after it and I died, and an autosave locked me into a boss fight cutscene so that I couldn't prepare for the fight without reloading an old save and running all the way back there. The quicksave button also isn't working so I have to pause the game.

All that said, I'm starting to enjoy the game a lot more.

You can just press F5 i believe and it saves the game in background in a 'quick save'.

It's a load of crap that Letho has so much health. I can't think of a way to do this fight except to wait for his shield to turn off, alternate between force magic and the sword until I'm out of magic, then avoid him until his shield runs out again. This would be okay if he wasn't such a tank that I have to repeat the process more than a dozen times. I could probably do a riposte, but the icon has inexplicably vanished for this fight.

Yeah, I honestly thought the Letho fights were tedious garbage. The weakest part of the game to my memory.

That's refreshing to hear. I'd be dreading every boss fight if they were like this.

EDIT: You can't know my joy when the fight ended at half health. My tactic was to stagger him with Aard into corners and unleash, then remain close enough that he'd swing and miss (instead of creating a new shield) while my vigor increased enough to stagger him again.

Haha. The choice at the crossroads couldn't have been easier. Roche or Zoltan? Oh my God. Aside from the political intrigue being far more compelling than the elvish resistance stuff, I was just thrilled to get away from Zoltan.

I really can't stand typical fantasy dwarves.
