Story question: how did Yen 'trick' Geralt in the past? I get that she uses him generally but people keep referring to a specific event.

Also the drunk witchers scene was pretty funny.

I loved that scene.

Yen tricked Geralt in the following way (book spoiler ahead). Actually I recommend you read the last short story in the novel "The Last Wish" rather than this summary.

That's a real "dot point" summary. Regardless of whether you read the last wish short story or not that's the trick they talk about.

Actually read it anyway will you? I'd like to hear your thoughts on why the last wish was made. I mean, I understand WHY but it felt out of character... so hard to talk without spoilers! Lol

That's a very cliffnotes version of the story! You left out one of the most important parts of them meeting - Yen absolutely hated Geralt. With fiery sorceress passion.
I've read the story, but I have not done the quest yet, SO MANY SIDE QUESTS. So I guess I can't really talk about it either haha

You can... and I don't remember Yen hating Geralt personally for any reason. Wasn't it just a generic hatred of all based on

Spoiler: click to toggle

Which is what I don't get about the end of that story

Okay thanks. I knew the The Last Wish stuff because I did the mission a couple of days ago. I think you asked a while ago if it made sense out of the context of the books, and I guess it provides enough background for it to make sense.

The game becomes too easy once you reach the higher levels, wouldn't you say? I'm playing on the third highest difficulty and I'm killing everything quite easily at this point, having not used any oils or weapon enhancements. That said, I was acing the boss at the summit of Bald Mountain when he suddenly teleported around the arena and got the jump on me several times, bringing me within an inch of death and forcing me to use so many swallow potions that Geralt's face was a disgusting veiny mess afterwards.

I'm currently up to "Final Preparations". Are there any quests/things that I might have missed that I should check out? I've done everything on the noticeboards and a lot of sidequests I've happened across, but there are a lot of buildings on the map I haven't explored. I don't want to check them all out because I bet most of them are bandit camps and hidden treasures.

I came across a Game of Thrones reference in Skellige yesterday:

I'm pretty sure I got the optimal outcome in the second act:

I hate how it's impossible to get Geralt out of combat mode when enemies are around, especially when the enemies are sirens and you're on a narrow cliff path.

EDIT: Yeah the quest "The Path of the Warrior" is shittily conceived because it involves climbing a mountain by jumping between cliff gaps, but you can't jump when a harpy or siren puts Geralt in combat mode. It happens a bunch of times, and some of the enemies are too far off to be hostile so you have to wait until they get close.

EDIT: Heehee you get to slide down the mountain once you're at the summit QUEST REDEEMED.

The outcome of the game is determined by your interactions with Ciri - not that other stuff. I believe there are 5 key decisions... the end works extremely well considering your actions IMO.

That combat mode thing really annoyed me on a few occasions. Especially as I thought sheathing my sword would take me out of combat mode and change my dodge button back into jump so I could reach a level where I could at least shoot harpies/siorens/ekidnas

Never thought I'd say it, but after doing all the witcher contracts and most sidequests, I'm burnt out with this game. I think I'm near the end so I'll finish it, but for those of us who feel obliged to do sidequests incase we miss something great, this game is too long.

That said, the changes of scenery in "Through Time and Space" were unexpected and magnificent.

I installed a 7.5GB patch and the only noticeable differences are that the mini-map's GPS stops working sometimes and there's now a delay after you choose what Geralt says. Supposedly it makes the horse easier to ride, but for me it's still a clunky dumbass that gets snagged on rocks and can't smoothly jump anything. Oh, and books have their own category in the inventory.

Why is the patch so huge? Were the console versions just fucked or something? On PC it's like >600mb to go from 1.0 to 1.06

It's 1.07 and I believe it's the first major update. The console version has run fine for me, except for the same collection of niggles I think all versions have.

I like the sound of the introduction of a stash (finally), the book tab and making all crafting and alchemical ingredients weight nothing. Further performance optimizations are welcome, too. I'm interested to see what this alternate movement system is about.
