A place to discuss everything about The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt.

Please use spoiler tags if talking about something story related.

Does anyone know how to break an item down into crafting components? The item description says you can but I can't see how

Just a warning if you decide to play the GOG version through Steam, GOG Galaxy won't track your time or achievements!

Pretty sure you go to a smith to break down the items.

I don't know if it can really be compared properly to either. It's it's own thing next to those two.

It feels like the world is structured like Skyrim but the entire game feels like The Witcher. By that I mean interactions, story, the way you resolve quests etc. and the way it plays as a whole.

I'm actually considering buying the guide for this game. Has anyone bought a Prima guide before? The only thing I want it for is so I can ascertain the best areas to find herbs/crafting ingredients. It's the one thing that bugs me with the Witcher games... finding the shit I need to make potions

Couple

Spoiler: click to toggle

I'm waiting on my copy that I ordered from JB ($40 inc postage), so I'm not too sure how detailed the maps will be. However, the Prima website says the maps contain the location of every Witcher Class Item, Relic, Place of Power, Monster Nest, Hidden Treasure and more.

Thanks. I tried the $10 eGuide they offer from their website but it didn't work very well and seemed to offer very contextual info. I don't want to go into a quest description to find a potion then drill down to ingredients. I want to see what sort of bush herb X grows on so I can make potion Y.

Not sure why but the items management in the Witcher series has always kinda irked me.

At least we get upgradable horse armor now so we can give Roach stuff to carry instead of lugging it around ourselv.es. MUCH better than that inn mechanic

I'm so impressed by the wind effects in this game. The way trees get blown around during storms is so convincing.

I just realised how accurate the body severing is! The way you cut them affects their bodies after they fall.

Maybe I'll get The Witcher 2 and see if I like it.

EDIT: Not for $20 I won't.

It has action focused combat that sits somewhere in between Souls (Movement, Timing and commitment to actions) and Fable (In cinematic presentation). The first Witcher was this weird timed combat thing that wasnt too great.

I'd say it's closer to Dragon Age structure wise. It has always been divided in story driven chapters that you progress through with nice developments towards a chapters closure.

But The Witcher games have its own standout strengths. It has some of the best implementations of meaningful choices that have a great sense of moral ambiguity. It likes to be a dick in that they have a knack of presenting choices that bite you back later. Story wise, it's probably the strongest RPG out there with interesting characters, elements of political fantasy and the second game has some of the most memorable moments put together in an RPG in my opinion. Its world building is fantastic in terms of lore, presentation and atmosphere. It's not as expansive as Elder Scrolls (A game where its lore is more interesting than what actually is shown in game lol), but the in game events and the little details just make the world so compelling and believable.
