I beat BSB and then stopped. So right near the start.. what's that? Boss 2? I also took out CB and the guy on top of that tower I mentioned above but they don't seem like compulsory bosses

I'm doing a re-run with the threaded cane and I think it's my favourite weapon. It's slightly weaker than the saw cleaver but has better reach and uses less stamina. It's very elegant and quick.

Also, these bosses just don't get easier for me. I can blitz through the early Dark Souls bosses now but I still died to Cleric Beast and got killed by Gascoigne about 5 times. Vicar Amelia is crazy hard for so early in the game. Her health bar is massive.

God I love this game.

It's so rad how the Chalice Dungeons have their own bosses and variations on other bosses. Some are just as well thought out too. Also once you get to the 'lower chalice' dungeons the enemies quickly become harder than the endgame enemies. It really tests your skills.

I found the only difficult thing about Vicar Amelia was her regen. My first time fighting her I would have killed her 3 times if she didn't heal. In hindsight I should have fought her after obtaining a certain item

I guess I just get impatient against her. It's a long fight that you can't rush through, so I take one stab too many and she knocks me out.

Ok so I finally picked this up, I was excited to go into this game almost completely blind (I had a lot of DS2 spoiled), but I've already given up at the first boss. It's fucking bullshit, most of the challenge comes from the camera not working well with the narrow bridge. I looked up some tactics to beat it online but everywhere is just saying he's super easy. What's wrong with me then?

Lol nevermind I just stopped being retarded and beat him. Father Gascaosufafaifjafa is a pretty fun fight though.

Father G is tough for a starting boss. There are some techniques you can use to trap him I think. Most of the "easy" methods I've seen is to use the switch axe's heavy attack

I found Father G pretty easy, got him on my 5th or so try. Main problem was his final form.

Ok I just finished it, want to have a spoilery talk about it. Definitely the most plot heavy of all the Souls games.

What else did you think? Did you manage to find the Upper Cathedral Ward? I only found out about it online. Not as hard to find as Ash Lake, but easily missed if you rush through a particular area. I assume you found Cainhurst, which is definitely Painted World 2.0 isn't it?

It's strange how much of the game is optional (though it's not clear when you play that it's optional). You don't have to visit the above places, Old Yharnam, Nightmare Frontier or Hemwick Charnel Lane. I think 7 bosses are optional, altogether. It's a good chunk of the game.

I enjoyed the overall experience although I really disliked the blood vial system. The previous Souls games were fair in their difficulty for the most part as every time you started the fight you had the same chances (Demon's Souls excepted). The possibility of losing all of your healing items was much more unforgiving than losing a bit of your maximum health.

And I felt like this is what pushed the game over the edge for me in terms of difficulty. Dark Souls always had a fantastic gameplay loop when it came to boss battles, you would cower behind your shield until you felt confident enough to make a few attacks after you had a good idea of the boss's patterns.

Without that safety net in Bloodborne everything just became so much more frantic. I felt like this worked for the regular gameplay but was too unforgiving for most of the boss fights, especially as they didn't seem to change the was dodging worked at all, you had a very small time frame in order to not take any damage and if you missed that moment then you would suffer.

The lifestealing mechanic also didn't work that well with most of the boss fights as it just wasn't a viable option. If you tried to regain any health by attacking you would inevitably just be hit again.

I think this is why Father Gascoigne was my favourite fight in the whole game, it's one opf the few that felt tailored to the new gameplay, rather than trying to stick a Dark Souls-designed boss into a different game.

The bosses did get much, much easier as the game went on though. I killed the Wet Nurse on my first try and the last boss I had any trouble with was probably Martyr Logarius. I did miss out on the last two bosses because of the ending I chose though, and it's kind of annoying that I have to play through the whole thing again to get another chance.

I will admit that the visual design of the bosses was nothing short of fantastic.

So yeah, I definitely enjoyed the boss battles in this the least of any of the previous games, but I probably enjoyed the rest of the gameplay the most. Yharnam is the best world From Software have created yet, it's so atmospheric and well realised, really my only criticism is how uninspired the Forbidden Wood was.

I also loved the amount of optional areas, and how unlike in Dark Souls they didn't feel like second-class levels. Old Yharnam was probably my favourite area in the game and it can be completely missed.

As to your question - I played every area (to my knowledge). I didn't really get to do much of the Chalice Dungeons though, I think I'll do those in a NG+.

I was very disappointed by the multiplayer though. After how well DS2 did this I was expecting another step up, instead we got something even less fleshed out than the first Dark Souls.

Overall I think this would be my go-to Souls experience. For me Dark Souls has the best bosses, Dark Souls 2 the best multiplayer, and Bloodborne the best world. Demon's Souls is in a weird kind of zone where, although a great game, everything in it has been done better in later games (expect for the final boss maybe).

Not being an arrogant prick, but I found the bosses in Bloodborne generally easier than Dark Souls. I'll admit I struggled a lot with human enemies but for some reason I found most beast bosses I killed first or second time thru.

I agree with the blood vial statement. I actually found myself farming the starting areas for blood vials at a few stages in the game. Interesting that they increased the limit up from 99 in a patch.
