Welcome to the 2015 Game Backlog Challenge!

The Backlog Challenge is a forum game where we monitor how many games we acquire and complete each month. The goal of this is to monitor the number of unfinished games we have in our collections and, in some cases, reduce them to a a more reasonable level. What's a reasonable level? When is a game finished? Well that's up to you really. Whilst there is a leader board the challenge is to achieve our own goals; not to compete with each other.

You don't have to have been a forum member or even a participant for the full year to partake. Anyone is welcome to join at any time and start monitoring.

Sound interesting? Well read on to see the basic rules

Quote:

RULES
To enter post your initial game count E.g. At the start of Jan 2015 I had 40 unfinished games.
At the end of each month post how many games you acquired and how many you completed. E.g. In January I completed 3 games but purchased 4
Game completion is subjective. i.e. A game is considered "complete" when you think it is. This could be 100% of achievements, completion of SP story or just playing it long enough to feel you've got your money's worth. It's up to you.

That's really all there is to it. I'll maintain a leader board in this initial post and it'd be cool if, when posting monthly results, you posted which games you completed/acquired so we can discuss and encourage each other... or discourage if you prefer :)

Personally I use a spreadsheet to maintain my list and mark off games as I complete them. I've saved a copy here as a template so feel free to grab a copy and use it. Pretty self explanatory but, if you're having trouble with it, post a question or shoot me thru a PM/Email (dave@anotherdungeon.com).

I'll put some instructions in the spoiler and I left some sample data in there to help you figure it out.

Here's my starting list for the year! Don't really have a goal as I'm pretty happy with the way it looks. Needs some portable games in there though :(

And, of course, I'm already at -1 as I bought Toad Explorer Treasure Hunter Tracker game I always forget the name of :)

I've got a miss-mash of old and new games to get through this year. I've been half-way through Half-Life 2: Episode One for about four years now!

Just out of interest but how will you consider Wii Fit U complete?

And Half Life 2... I enjoyed Episode 2 but not Episode 1 so much. Guess I was just disappointed it wasn't HL3

I'm still halfway through Half-Life 2 itself, and have been for about 6 years or more. Tried recently again and fuck Ravenholm.

I'll post my list soon, gotta go through it, remove some of the shit I'll probably never play, and just leave stuff I actually intend on playing soon.

Here's my pile. 51 games to start the year.

That's 1 per week if I start now and refrain from buying any new ones ... easy.

Chickan, I suggest you chip away at Forza Horizon 2, it is long.

mj, you should start on Max as it isn't hard or long.

I have gone back to Gears 3 to finally go for Seriously 3.0 (mostly need mp kills which I can do all privately).

Yeah, I just checked and it's about 6 hours long. I started it when it first came out (2013?), but haven't really returned to it. I'm about 4 hours in, so I really should finish it off.

One of my goals for 2015 is to continue playing what I feel like. No offence intended N-Man but, when you post like that, it really makes it sound more like work than fun.

Maybe it's due to a change in my personal time but I just don't find the whole "working towards a goal" thing enjoyable in gaming any more.

Are you suggesting that I should try exercising with the balance board?

Hey guys,

I noticed a calculation error on my spreadsheet; the monthly totals were adding based on the Wii U line instead of totals.

Anyway I've fixed this and made some other mods to the sheet so, if you like, download the new version. I didn't change the data entry page so you can just copy paste the data from your old one to the new one and be 100% up to date

Change List
- Fixed the Score Row to use totals instead of Wii U values
- Added a percentage complete row
- Coloured alternating months to make it easier to view
- Added conditional formatting to only show score value and percentage for months equal to or below the current.

Not a bad start to the year. However, I've got lots of travel over the next few months, so I don't think it'll improve.

I did more than I realised to start the year. Sadly I also bought games which kinda goes against my whole thing of keeping my "games in progress" collection below 10... ideally around 5.

Purchased 3
- Captain Toad : Treasure Tracker
- Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
- Stealth Bastard

Completed 2
- Valiant Hearts (gave it 10 out of 10)
- Captain Toad : Treasure Tracker (gave it 7 out of 10)

Also knocked off a decent chunk of Forza Horizon 2 and
