I was really surprised with how easy that last Ant Man node was. Maybe I got incredibly lucky, but I honestly breezed through it. Black Widow and Thor with Ant Mans powers. That 3rd node was a bit of a challenge though. For whatever reason I am getting my ass handed to me in the Enemy of the State missions. Usually I do pretty good in those PvE missions but struggling with this batch.

Well, EoS was the event where they introduced (a) ninjas and (b) survival nodes. Combine that with lots of missions where Wolverine is being fed red AP for his adamantium slash, and you're going to take damage on almost every mission. I've been using 2* Black Widow, Magneto and Thor as my main team for most of the missions, which has been working pretty well. Out of all the ninjas, taking out the Kishu should be a priority: their combination of powers are particularly annoying (caltrop trap tiles, strong protect tiles, and strong strke tiles). I remember the pain the first time they ran the event: there was a bug in the 5 round survival match "The Black Hole", where after completing the final round it just restarted from round 1 and continued until you died. That was particularly painful back when we only got 5 health packs. |

I am holding off starting the event until late since I don't need the green Human Torch cover. |

Not sure how well that'll work out for you. I joined the first time slice on Friday evening, when it said there was 200 players. Today it says there is 636 players. So you could end up in a bracket with players days ahead of you. |

With one day left to go, my bracket is at 752, so that's only 120 new players picking that ending time over two days. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't even fill up by the end. I'm currently sitting at #8 with a 7,400 point lead over #11, which is probably enough to maintain a top 10 placement and get the three Ant Man covers. Hopefully they're done with 7 day events for a while after this ... |

Sadly, I won't be getting any of the Ant Man covers which sucks. I just got my ass kicked in the majority of the events for that was never able to get a good run going to get the points I needed to make headway. Ah well. On the flip side I understand the PvP stuff now. Seriously never even seen that skip button before. I doubt I'll hit the 4,000 points for the 10 pack this time, but should get it for the next season (hopefully). My characters are coming along too getting a good assortment maxed out and grabbing those 3* covers from the Deadpool stuff everyday is nice. Thanks both of you guys for the tips. |

I managed to keep in the top 10 last night, so got my three Ant Man covers. I dropped down to #9, with a smaller lead over #11 at the end: there were a lot of points up for grabs in the final round of the event with those long survival matches. It took me a while to be able to get to the 10-pack reward in PVP. Before, I was pretty happy to make 3000 season points for a 3* cover. Of course, back then there was no DDQ. |

So do you guys have any tricks/tips to maximize the return on those DPD tokens? My success rate of getting "good stuff" is abysmal. I have 4 right now. 2 from yesterday and 2 from today. Haven't used them until I asked here. lol |

There hasn't really been enough time to know what long time strategies are best. I don't think there is any way you can time your tap to get specific prizes: the icon keeps cycling one or two steps after your touch, and it isn't clear that it is following a particular pattern (i.e. if you recognised the prize shown two before a 4* reward, it isn't clear that it would be followed by 4* if you waited for 300 more to cycle past). About the only thing for sure is that the more tacos you spend on one particular vault, the better your chances are of receiving a decent reward. And that once you get a decent reward from a vault, your future chances of getting a great reward will go down. For example, on your first pick from a vault you've got 3 chances out of 300 to pull a 4* character (i.e. 1%). If you got all 10 tokens for a 5 day period, your chance on the 10th pull would be 3 out of 291 if you didn't pull any 4*'s, or about 1.03%. However if you did manage to pull a 4* on your first go, your chances of repeating that on the second shot will be 2 out of 299, or approximately 0.67%. So it may be beneficial to stop once you get a decent prize. You can also opt not to spend your tacos and save them up. The vaults alternate between sweet and savoury for each 5 day round, So if a particular vault doesn't have prizes you want, you can save them up and in ~ 10 days spend them on something else. At the moment I've been stockpiling all my sweet tacos (up to 24 now), and spending all my savoury tacos. I haven't really noticed any difference from my savoury tacos compared to the old system (not too surprising). I'll probably open all my sweet tacos when I see a vault with some Kingpin covers. Overall, it probably best to set your expectations low. Treat 3*s and above as welcome bonuses, rather than seeing the 2* rewards as failures. At some point, the random number generator will be kind to you. For instance, I was really happy getting a blue Professor X cover out of an Loki event token yesterday

I don't think there is any strategy. I feel like lately they have been giving out more rubbish that every before. I wish they give us another limited time vault, the independence one was good. |

The big difference with the Independence Vault was its size. You got tokens from three versus events, which means probably 3-6 tokens depending on how well you did. With 50 tokens total, that means you'd be taking 6-12% of the prizes in the vault. The smaller vault size also meant that pulling out a junk prize would increase your odds more significantly than for the taco vault. In contrast, for DDQ you'll get 5-10 tokens in a five day period with a 300 prize vault, so you're pulling between 1.7-3.3% of the prizes in the vault. Now on the bright side, the new system means I can tell with absolute certainty what prizes I won't get. For example, my vault currently has four black and one yellow Luke Cage covers, so I know I won't ever get any red Luke Cage covers from it. So this seems to further encourage stockpiling of tokens. |

I did pretty well with the "Balance of Power" tournament: managed to place #47 in my bracket of 500 players, with 827 points. That got me a Dr Octopus cover for hitting 800 points, and a Quicksilver cover for being in the top 100. I also got a Beast cover from one of the event tokens. I think Dr Octopus was the last 3* character I was missing, after having sold him off a few times when I was short of roster space. The team I used was 1* Juggernaut, 2* Black Widow, and 3* Luke Cage. They fit together quite well with only one active power per colour, and Black Widow's healing ability can restore the health Juggernaut loses from his headbutt move. At level 270, Juggernaut's headbutt was doing about 6,000 damage (plus 3,000 to himself), and Luke Cage's upper cut around 12,000. The team also gave me a number of defensive wins, so the powers weren't too complicated for the AI to use effectively. |

Another 7 day event with a new character as the placement reward. This time it is Jean Grey: http://marvel.com/news/video_games/24920/piecing_together_marvel_puzzle_quest_jean_grey It also makes four 4* character releases in a row, which is starting to look like a pattern And since this is the Hulk event, there should be a node part way through the event that awards a green Hulk cover.

And starting next Thursday is a rerun of the Deadpool vs MPQ event with 4* Deadpool as a reward: http://marvel.com/news/video_games/24951/piecing_together_marvel_puzzle_quest_deadpool_uncanny_x-force Given the pattern so far, the essential node characters for that event will be Kingpin, Dr Doom and Ares (since they are the prizes for the current event). I think everyone was trying a lot harder in the Jean Grey event: I only managed one cover, being a fair way off from top 20. I did luck out and pulled a red Iron Man Hulkbuster cover from one of the event tokens. I also managed to place top 100 in the Iron Fist tournament to win a black Luke Cage cover: that was enough to make his black power start stunning enemies, which is a nice bonus. EDIT: and they've released details of the character to come after the new Deadpool: https://d3go.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=31821 No name given, but it seems a safe guess that this is Sam Wilson (Falcon) as Captain America. He's taken over from Steve Rogers in the comics, and the power set looks like a cross between falcon and Captain America. Edited by jamesh, Aug 1 2015, 10:08 PM.
