I think I'm done with the Gauntlet. I made it far enough to get the Deadpool cover in the third section, but needed to use Deadpool's super whales move to kill everyone twice: once on Simulation 36 against Daken/Luke Cage/Falcon, and once on the essential track against Starlord/Kingpin/Hood.

I wasn't sure I'd make it when I got to Simulation 35 against Deadpool/Loki/Hood (all at level 199 or 200), but somehow managed to beat it. You've got Hood and Loki stealing all your AP, and every time you get enough AP to hit them hard, Deadpool jumps in to take the damage and then recovers most of it next turn. It was the kind of battle I'd consider using super whales on, except I couldn't play Deadpool against Deadpool.

One other interesting change they've made is to increase the amount of points you get for winning matches in versus mode by about 50%. This meant I managed to hit the 650 point reward for the first time ever in the Falcon tournament. On the downside, you lose 50% more points when other players defeat your team. It should make reaching the season progression rewards markedly easier this time around.

Looks like they added Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Vision to the DDQ rotation. I also managed to pull a second green Quicksilver cover from a taco token, bringing him up to 1/2/3 covers. Assuming they stick to release order, Scarlet Witch should be up tonight and Vision tomorrow.

And it looks like the next event is releasing 4* Carnage:

If you love characters that damage your own team and require health packs after the match (e.g. Ragnarok, Sentry, 3* Wolverine), then you might like him.

Game is still saying I don't have Scarlet Witch, which I do.

Some people had the problem with Quicksilver, found on the forum said to manually select the character to fix the problem.

It did the same for me. Manually selecting her let me do the mission.

Is Black Panther Yellow cover worth it? I got that one yesterday and I have some other recruited characters that I'm thinking about ditching mostly because they are single covers and not really much use to me like that. Which... I guess I could say would be the same for Black Panther. Damn it. GAH!

He's probably worth keeping if you can make the space. I don't know how many times I've been killed by AI controlled Black Panthers. His black is the really powerful ability, but having any cover will unlock the ability to get more through DDQ.

This is the point where the developers want you to make the hard choice between selling off a character you might want, or spending cash to buy HP to buy more roster slots. If you've still got 1* characters that you don't use much, you could sell some of those off (although you probably want to keep one around for DDQ).

Two more question.

First, I literally just noticed a couple of my characters have glowing stars. Like they pulsate. Does that mean anything special? I assume it does but what I don't know.

Two - in regards to the DDQ what do you think is the bare minimum to get through that last 3 Star section to get the guaranteed cover? I can usually get through the 2nd wave and then just decimated on wave 3. It sucks because I'd love those free covers every day.

If you look in your roster, most of your 3* characters will be described as "rare", while the ones with glowing stars are described as "gold". The only difference is that the rare characters were created with unique move sets, while the gold ones were modelled on their 1* or 2* counterpart. There are only 4 such characters in the game: Captain America, Daken, Storm and Thor. Human Torch looks like he fits this pattern, but is classed as "rare", since it is actually the 2* version that came second.

As for DDQ, I'm still using my 2* team consisting of Black Widow/Thor/Storm to do this. The strategy being:

Black Widow: steal AP with purple. Heal and extend countdowns with blue only when absolutely necessary
Thor: deal damage with red and generate green AP using yellow.
Storm: Use green power when you get close to 30 AP to destroy almost half the board and generate AP (assuming you have 5 green covers). Use blue for stun and damage.

I've got them all at level 94, but the team will probably work okay if they aren't completely maxed out. You want to build up your blue and green AP during the goon rounds, using Thor's yellow when you can, and Storm's green when you get enough AP. On the even rounds, try to stun characters using Storm's blue.

If you've built up 30 blue AP, you can often stun all three characters by casting her blue twice, steal three more blue AP with Black Widow, and then stun the third character. At level 94, this combo also knocks 5400 health off each enemy and leaves them stunned for 4 turns, which is often enough to beat them without letting them fire off a single power.

I go for the defensive approach, some of the daily events I don't even get hit at all during all 4 waves (even when I do, I always finish with all 3 characters alive).

Though I do have Falcon at Level 140 which helps. His Blue is passive so it doesn't drain the AP for Storm to use. Bird Strike + Inspiration creates really strong defensive tiles which block huge amount of damage. Then I let Thor so the massive damage with Call the Storm (usually only need to use it twice for Wave 2 and 4 to kill all the enemies). Wave 1 and 3, I try to keep the enemies alive until I get enough AP to smash the heroes in Wave 2 and 4.

I do have Storm but mostly as a back-up to finish off the enemies with Spinning Tornado and if they do heavy damage, Raging Temptress (don't bother with her Green Power).

Looks like I'll have to pump some ISO into Black Widow then. She wasn't a character I used all that much, but willing to try it. Thanks for the tips.

You won't regret it: she's one of the best 2* characters in the game, and doesn't really have a 3* equivalent. For goon-only nodes, she goes well paired up with Magneto: use his purple to feed her blue and you may never have a countdown tile expire.

If you get the chance, I'd recommend respecing her to have 5 blue covers though: being able to heal even when there are countdown tiles out on the board has saved me on numerous occasions.

That's what I was going to ask. How do you have her covers set up?

I have her covered as 3/5/5. While you don't steal as much AP with her purple in this configuration, the power also costs less, so you may end up using it more. With 3 covers, the move only costs 8 AP, so you can often fire it off after only two purple matches if she is the strongest in your team for purple (each match giving 3 AP plus stealing one extra via her espionage power).

With 1-4 covers in blue, she either increases the timers on all countdown tiles, or heals the team if there are no countdown tiles. With 5 covers, she'll always heal the team but only half as much if there are countdown tiles. So that's pretty useful.

And the last two covers in black add extra damage when the ability kicks in (i.e. when matching black, blue, or purple, provided the tile has her icon on it). At level 94 with 5 covers, this is adding 122 damage. For a match-3, that is adding 74-94% extra damage depending on the colour. It also interacts well with strike tiles: the strike tile activates once for the match, and a second time for the Espionage damage.

The developers released a new Q&A video discussing some future changes to the game. Some of the changes include:

  • The cost of new roster slots will be capped at 1000 HP. Under the current system where the cost increases by 50 HP every 4 slots, this would only be of benefit when purchasing your 81st slot though. They say they're also working on other ways to earn slots.
  • They'll experiment with disabling "community scaling" in some story events. This is what sometimes causes the difficulty of missions to change without you playing.
  • The higher points in versus matches are sticking around.
  • They'll increase the drop rate for 4* characters
  • A new prize store for DDQ called "The Vault", where there is a fixed set of prizes for the week, and each time you pull one out it will effectively increase the odds for everything else next pull. There will be 4* prizes too.
  • Increasing the auto-generating health pack limit from 5 to 10. They'll still regenerate at the same pace as before, so it will be 6 hours to go from 0 to 10.
  • The SHIELD Simulator progression rewards will be revamped next season.

I also got asked to do a survey in game, which asked how I'd feel about them removing the ability to buy particular covers, and whether I'd like an "auto play" quick match mode where you can have the AI play your matches for you.
