So we don't clutter up the rollcall thread, lets move the discussion here.

For those interested, Marvel Puzzle Quest is a match 3 puzzle game that combines the game play of the original Puzzle Quest with Marvel comics characters and an associated storyline. It is available for Android, iOS, and Windows (Steam).

I created an alliance called "DAFAP" that you should be able to join from any of the above platforms. The main benefits of joining the alliance are (a) the chance at receiving alliance prizes in the tournaments, and (b) some extra Iso along with the daily login bonus.

Some hints for new players:

  • If you link to Facebook, the game can back up your progress, and transfer it between devices.
  • If you are linked to Facebook, you will occasionally be prompted to send gifts to FB friends. If things are working correctly, it should only prompt you to send to other people playing the game. You may also occasionally receive gifts this way.
  • Save your coins to buy new roster slots.
  • Most of the single player missions have 4 special rewards. You will get one of them the first time you complete the mission, and you can get the others by replaying it. You can see what the rewards are before starting the mission, so you can decide whether it is worth while. It probably is if the rewards are coins (to buy new roster slots), or covers (to add new characters or power up your existing ones).
  • If you get a cover that you can't recruit due to a lack of roster slots, you've got a week to decide what to do so there is no hurry. If you decide not to use it, make sure you sell it before it expires so you get something from the cover.
  • You should be able to play in some of the Versus tournaments from very early on, since many pair you up with a powerful character not from your roster. You probably won't win, but might pick up a few prizes along the way.

Quite liking Black Widow's passive AP steal ability but I think I prefer the starter character which stuns. Much more useful in the scheme of things

I've been playing with Original Black Widow recently too (mainly in the "Thick as Thieves" event, since she gets boosted by 40 levels there). I don't have the black passive power for her yet, but have the other two.

The blue is particularly useful: if there are any countdown tiles on the board, she increases their timeout. If there are no countdown tiles, she heals the entire team.

I agree that Modern Black Widow is still very useful. Try to max out her blue power, since it will stun the target for 5 turns and stun the other enemies for 1 turn.

Nice Lineup N-Man. I signed up on PC. Think I prefer the interface better but the game certainly plays better on the smaller screen.

I didn't do this and my (1 month old) Samsung Galaxy Tab S died last night :(

That's a shame. You were quite lucky to get that 4 star character.

The game was designed for the mobile, the PC version seems like they just expanded everything.

I noticed you guys are levelling up your 2 star Thor, seems like he is very popular with many people in versus (probably due to his high health).

In my case he's just better than my other characters. My Wolverine is pretty avg right now and I don't seem to get covers. Spider Man's skills feel a bit lacklustre and my decent level Black Widow doesn't have the Stun move. That leaves me with Thor, Storm and one other for my fights (still getting assigned characters in SP)

Give the lightning rounds in the versus tab a go. If you win 3 matches, you should get enough points to unlock the recruit token reward, and you might get some covers for winning those matches.

You're paired up with a high level character (the current round is with grey suit black widow) which you can use to tank and dish out most of the damage. When you start out, you should be able to find matches against low level players that make it easy to get that far. If you play carefully you can finish the match without your own characters receiving much damage, so you can easily polish off enough matches.

These rounds only last an hour or so, so there will probably be another one running next time you have a break.

I'm finding I've hit a wall with the SP mode. Second storyu arc and I'm stuck on the last two missions. A couple of times I've been going ok but then my opponent always seems to get a series of events that let them wipe me out in one swoop. Very frustrating as it ferels unfair (yes I know it's random and luck is perception)

You're not going to be able to finish single player without giving the PvP and PvE events a go. At a minimum, you'll get Iso to upgrade your favourites and extra covers as you finish matches. If you're lucky you'll get something good for the points you score or your overall placement (and alliance placement, if we're lucky). The story events (current'y "Meet Rocket & Groot") also look like they have some good rewards, but you will probably need to expand your roster a bit to go well in it: if you have the characters that are powered up it is significantly easier.

Also, from memory the third chapter of the story unlocked before I finished everything in the second, so you might be able to pick up some gear there.
---

As for me, the cost of roster slots is a bit of a pain. I need 500 coins to unlock the next two slots but have only have 175 at the moment. I also have 3 unrecruited 2 star characters that'll expire in 4 days:

* Marvel NOW Magneto (blue)
* Moonstone (red)
* Captain America (red)

I'm kind of afraid to use any more recruit tokens in case I get any more interesting covers that I don't have space for :(. I've also been trying to not aim too high in some of the events so that the reward is a cover for a character I've already got. If any of the above characters look worth it, here are the characters in my roster I haven't spent any Iso levelling up:

* Captain Marvel (***, 1 yellow)
* Colossus (***, 1 black)
* Doctor Doom (***, 1 black)
* Storm (***, 1 black)
* Storm (**, 1 green, 4 blue, 1 yellow)
* Black Widow (**, 1 purple, 2 blue)
* Human Torch (**, 2 red)
* Bullseye (**, 1 purple)
* Daken (**, 1 purple)

I probably want to keep Daken, since I can get a few covers in the single player once I'm able to beat the last Oscorp mission. Not sure about the others.

If you have to, throw away the 1 stars characters (all of them, they will be of no use when you level up your 2 stars).

All 2 star characters are easy to get, I have thrown away so many 2 star covers.

Bullseye is shit, when you get Hawkeye then you will never use him. If you get 3 star Human Torch, then the 2 star is useless since he is just a weaker version. Same with Daken.

I picked up Rocket and Groot from the Fatal Attraction event.

There are the characters I do not have in my line-up:

4 stars:

Devil Dinosaur

Thor

3 stars:

Captain Marvel

Colossus

Iron Man model 40

Mystique

Spiderman

Wolverine
