Noel, Tim and Andy discuss the pros and cons of Xbox vs Playstation. They list a lot of incorrect facts, miss a bunch of points and finish off my discussing sex with Andy's cousin. All good stuff. Feel free to have a listen then tell them all the things they got wrong! :) Oh and, if you like, you can also mention some of the stuff they got right. Don't say too much though or they'll get a false sense of authorotai

Very entertaining discussion. I agree with the sentiment that the only winner is the consumer. I couldn't be happier with my PS4, and Tim and Noel are obviously content with their Halo boxes* :D

I can confirm that you will only lose access to your PlayStation Plus collection while your subscription is inactive. You will regain access as soon as you resubscribe. I subscribed for three months in 2010, and failed to renew my membership. I resubscribed two years later, and all of my games were available again.

I bought my PS3 for two main exclusive franchises: Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy. Obviously Final Fantasy XIII didn't end up being exclusive, and the Gran Turismo series could get some fresh ideas from, I don't know, a street bum? But the Uncharted and Infamous games made up for it. LittleBigPlanet was a hoot—especially with four local players; although, I wouldn't shed a tear if I never saw another one.

I'm not sure why Uncharted: Golden Abyss was brought up while comparing Sony and Microsoft exclusives—Microsoft doesn't have a competing portable console.

Regarding console reliability, here is my experience (only including consoles purchased new):

PlayStation:
Purchased 1997. Still works, although there is a specific cutscene in Final Fantasy VIII that freezes until I turn the console upside-down.

PlayStation 2:
Purchased 2001. Still working.

Xbox:
Purchased 2003. No problems during the eight years in my possession.

Xbox 360:
Purchased 2006. No problems during the five years in my possession.

Wii:
Purchased 2007. Still working.

PlayStation 3 40GB:
Purchased 2008. Yellow Light of Death in 2011, fixed it by blasting the Cell processor with a heat gun (some teenager on YouTube said it was okay!), and got another year out of it.

PlayStation 3 80GB:
Purchased 2008. Still working, though my brother claims to have experienced problems with the Blu-ray drive.

Wii U:
Purchased 2012. No problems.

PlayStation 4:
Failed to wake from standby just this morning! Let's hope it's not a recurring problem.

Thankfully, I've not yet had to send a console off for repair. I'm looking forward to a world where one can simply walk into a store and swap their faulty device for a new one on the spot. But that's just crazy talk, right?

Question: has anyone here had a console die that had spent most of its life well ventilated? My PS3 was not in an ideal location when it died. My Xbox 360 had nothing obscuring its airflow, and it was red-ring free.

*I miss Halo :(

I had 4 failed PS3s and 1 failed Xbox 360. All well ventilated. To be fair though three of the PS3 failures were the same transaction (they replaced my console with a unit that DOA... twice!)

Arrrgh… what a nightmare. Were they all repaired under warranty? While I couldn't recommend pulling apart your consoles, I will say that repairing a console—MacGyver style—was super satisfying!

All were fixed under warranty. Only issue I had was that trophies hadn't synched on one and my ME save data never carried over from 1 to 2.
