I had a similar conundrum when someone told me unprompted about a powerful sword you can get early in the game. I avoided it because I didn't think I would've found it on my own and it would've sullied the experience for me. Yours sounds much worse than that though. Definitely avoid it. Infuriating difficulty is half the fun. That said, I did look at walkthroughs to check some secrets out and to beat one boss I couldn't be assed figuring out the attack pattern for (Crossbreed Priscilla). |

Yeah, I'm gonna hold off for now. It was just a shock going into the world 4 (to get a powerful sword I found out about online lol), and getting my ass kicked by the level's grunt enemies. I was under the illusion I was getting pretty powerful (since the first 2 worlds don't give me much trouble at all anymore), so it was a downer to discover I still have such a long way to go. I really wish the game had bonfires/checkpoints. It does feel unfair that it insists on depositing me so far back every time I die. I also wish my health wouldn't get reduced by half in soul form. It's my understanding that Dark Souls isn't so onerous in these regards, so it does sound a fair bit easier. Ah well, at least the bosses so far haven't been too bad. I haven't died in a boss fight yet. |

Which bosses have you beaten so far? I've never used sorcery in any souls game but I've heard it can make some boss battles a peice of cake, and other really fucking hard. |

Phalanx, the big knight dude, Armoured Spider, and Flamelurker. They were all highly exploitable using the Soul Arrow and the environment as a shield, except the first, which was a piece of cake when I doused my scimitar with turpentine and lobbed firebombs on him. But in general, it seems most of them are particularly susceptible to magic so far.

I remember having quite a bit of toruble with the Flamelurker, he's just so aggressive and very ahrd to get a hit in without any kind of range. I suspect you'll get fucking wrecked by the Maneaters later on. |

Flamelurker tends to get stuck on those rib things near the fog door. Whenever he started jogging in place, I'd fire off a few soul arrows before he got himself unstuck. Then I'd sprint to the other side and repeat the process. He went down in no time. Demon God killed me a couple of times last night, thus breaking my boss fight streak, but he's the only enemy in his level, so dying put me just outside his lair. No torturous backtracking or frustration for once! Soul Arrow really works wonders. It makes the game so much easier than if I tried to play as a pure melee character. I don't know what I'd do without it. Guess I'd have to get good at using a crossbow, which it seems I'll have to do anyway to kill those dragons in the first world. Soul arrow just can't lock onto them. Edited by Sir Goodfellow, Apr 14 2014, 08:10 PM.

There's a trick that I've been using in DS2 to fire off spells accurately at enemies outside of your lock-on range, not sure if it works in Demon's Souls but give it a go anyway. Equip the binoculars (I think they're called brass telescope in DeS) and zoom in on your target. When you fire a spell it will go in the middle of your screen, so line the enemy up in the middle of the screen while using the telescope and fire away. Your spells do have a range though, so be careful of that. |

Arghh. I died and went to get a drink forgetting that I would spawn at a bonfire where archers immediately fire at you. 16000 souls down the toilet. |

Nuttz how much further are you than me? I'm simultaneously up to Harvest Valley, Grave of Saints and that place past that petrified lady who blocks the gate switch. I just beat The Lost Sinner. |

I finished it a couple of weeks ago, I've finished The Forest of the Fallen Giants and Heide's Tower of Flame on NG+. |

Yeah that's what was missing from the twisted paths and dangerous falling zones of Blighttown: darkness and a lack of scope. |

On a different note this game is kinda easy... I feel like I'm overpowered and I haven't done anything out of the ordinary. I've still got stacks of souls and boss souls sitting unused in my inventory. It's still hard but nowhere near DS1's difficulty. Right now, anyway. Edited by Moo, Apr 16 2014, 01:39 AM.

I got the Crescent Falchion, which is the most powerful sword in the game, so now I don't have to feel so underpowered in combat. It kills most things in one or two slashes. Its stats are actually rather low, but its power scales with your magic ability, so it's deadly for anyone specializing in sorcery like I am. I did read about it online, but stumbled upon it by accident, so I can even say I found it without help! Currently making my way through the Tower of Latria. It's a pretty atmospheric area, though its layout is initially confusing, and it involves a bit too much backtracking through dingy halls for my liking. I did open all the shortcuts last night, so I should be able to finish it fairly quickly next time. I hate those octopus magicians though. When they surprise me coming around a corner, it's too easy to get stunned and killed before I can even react. |

Fuck me. I just spent 20 or so lives trying to navigate those lava rocks at the start of Iron Keep and the reward is bonfire ascetic. I also realized on the last attempt that the first, insanely difficult jump can be skipped entirely. Check your surroundings. |
