I felt a bit like that at the end of DS2. Gave it a month or so and have played it thru on NG+ AND the DLC... loving it all over again Just needed a break Seems easier now I know where I'm going too.Hard part is you probably need a break from the game as frustration will lead to careless mistakes which will increase the frustration which will... blah blah blah. At the same time, if you take a break, it might be harder to get back into the swing of it when you pick it up again. |

Well I'm saying this after taking a fortnight break from the game and trying to come back from it, and my feelings for not being bothered to finish it were only stronger after the break. I'll let it sit there on my computer, though. I might manage to do it but right now I just don't want to play it at all. |

Gonna wait until all the DLC is out so I can play it in a single playthrough. I don't want to have to replay the game 3 times for a few extra hours each time. Curt if you haven't checked out every route yet I think you should. The Demon Ruins (and beyond) is the easiest area to tackle first. Tomb of the Giants is painfully hard if done first but a cakewalk if done last. New Londo is also manageable early on, except the boss. Duke's Archives are kind of a dick no matter when you visit them but except for one section they're never painfully frustrating. Edited by Moo, Jul 29 2014, 02:23 PM.

Yeah the first one I attempted was Duke's Archive, and I decided it was just too hard so I left and went and did the Demon Ruins which I was able to handle fine (not without my fair share of deaths but nothing too soul crushing). After that I went to the Tomb Of The Giants which is what I've been stuck on, and it is absolutely a pain in the ass. I made it to the boss once but I missed one of the bonfires on the way there so it felt like a ridiculously long haul to get there without any checkpoint. I think I lasted about 20 seconds against the boss (I didn't actually see him, I just got swarmed by a bunch of giant skeletons and snuffed it). So I'll probably try New Londo (the only one I haven't really attempted) once I get the heart to play it again. |

Any chance you could do me a favour? In the area where you fight the rotten (end of the black gulch) do you now see this cave? (Half way up my sword) ![]() If so, and you go inside, what happens when you interact with this fountain thing/

I'm 90% sure that it's not there without the DLC. All I remember in that cave is a chest off to the side and then a large room with a primordial bonfire. I don't have a saved game with access to that area. Curt I won't reveal the answer to you but there's a trick to the TotG boss that gets the skeletons off your case. It's not particularly obvious but it seems obvious in retrospect. Edited by Moo, Jul 29 2014, 03:16 PM.

Ok thanks. I didn't know if it was added as part of the 1.04 patch or whether it appeared after the DLC. I got the DLC before the patch was released so I couldn't tell. I just wanna see if it has that jarring "you need DLC to access this" like in Dragon Age Origins. Man that pissed me off |

I'm sure Dark Souls would make that part of the mythology, like you touch the fountain and a voice says "The ancient coffers await thy blood pledge of $13.95." |

Seek $13.95. Larger, more powerful $13.95. Seek the DLC, that is the only way. Lest this fount swallow you whole... As it has so many others. |

If anyone's interested my review of the first piece of DLC is up. Nothing is as frustrating or as compelling as a game in the Souls franchise. Its finely-balanced mix of difficulty versus reward makes for an experience like no other. As such, I was a little apprehensive as to how new DLC would integrate with the Dark Souls II world. Would it feel tacked on? Would it be just more of the same? Would it denigrate the core title? Fortunately, "Crown of the Sunken King" is an exemplary piece of DLC. It looks unique, whilst at the same time, matches the rest of the core title's gameplay perfectly. The puzzles and changed level navigation is a pleasant change but doesn't feel out of place. Enemies and boss fights are varied and interesting plus the loot is well worth your time. More important than any of this is that From Software have, once again, nailed the Dark Souls formula perfectly. Its risk versus reward is perfectly balanced and, excluding the final boss fight, you're left with an enormous sense of satisfaction. If you're at all interested in this DLC you should buy it. It's the first part of a trilogy but fits the lore perfectly and doesn't leave you hanging for part two. 9 / 10 Full review - http://stevivor.com/2014/07/review-dark-souls-2-crown-sunken-king/

I'm assuming the 1st sentence of paragraph 2 is an in-joke for Dark Souls heroes and if so I nod my head in approval. Surprised you were apprehensive about the DLC because Artorias of the Abyss from DS1 was pretty awesome, especially the bosses! Edited by Moo, Jul 31 2014, 01:19 AM.

Got it in one One of the hardest things about writing a review for another site is comparing the published version to your original piece. For a small site they don't do the back and forth I'd originally expected (i.e. I submit a review, they come back with what they'd like changed, I go back again, etc.). Anyway that was a line I had to add back in pointing out that it was something fans of the game would get ![]() I've never played any Dark Souls 2 content. In fact, when I re-bought DS1 last night, I got the prepare to die addition which, I believe, means I get the additional content bundled in. Fucking bargain for $10 either way! Wonder if I'll be any better at it this time around. I certainly found my second run of DS2 to be easier. That said I have no idea how you guys use magic. I just can't get the hang of it. Spells all seem weak and difficult to target. When looking at the protective clothing I noticed the ones that enhanced spell stats didn't seem that much stronger in magic defence either so, for bosses that deal in primarily magic attacks, I couldn't see myself winning as a magic user. What spells were you guys using? Actually, if you don't mind, I'd love to see a screenshot of your character stats, weapons, armor, etc. In other words the build you finished the game with

I mostly used soul arrows and a weapon in my magic run and generally had the same issue, especially at the beginning. I might have increased my stats poorly because I got near the end of the game and was barely denting the bosses at that point so I stopped playing. |
