The bell's under the stairs you enter the hallway on.

TYVM. I searched both sides AND the roof but forgot the golden rule of check behind you!

Now my big decision is whether to attack this gentle giant or not... I'll probably go with not

After two playthroughs of both games I finally grew tired of Dark Souls for the time being.

I think I'll wait until all of the DLC is out before playing it.

Apparently DS2 was made by From Software's B-Team while the DS1 posse work on Project Beast. They must have a pretty rich roster if their B-Team is capable of a game that good.

Attack the curse beacons nearby to avoid getting cursed. If you stand beyond the reach of her physical attack she'll fire an easily avoidable beam that will give you time to move in and land a couple of shots.

I went the lazy route, found an effigy and used the head of whassisname as a decoy. Game beat :)

Does NG+ offer an alternate ending or is there just the one this time?

I finished both games twice and quite frankly got bored with both of them early in New Game Plus.

Also the fact that you opted for a summons in a fresh DS2 game means you've LOST MY RESPECT UNTIL THE END OF TIME.

I was quite impressed with the NPC summon actually. Didn't do a great deal of damage but provided a couple of respites where I could use an Estus Flask. I liked that they weren't OP doin massive damage or just tanking the boss for you. That woulda made it feel cheap. Died about half way thru her health bar but that was fine as I had the pattern down by then :)

Play it. Die. Learn your lesson :)

Seriously though I would advise taking it slow and learning how to kill enemies. Don't treat it like other RPGs where you try to save up currency (souls) as you'll probably lose it. If you die once you leave a greenish bloodstain. If you make it back to that you can reclaim your lost souls but, if you die, they're gone for good.

Melee is more fun but don't underestimate the power of spells like soul arrow. Can be be exploited in a few battles to make things markedly easier :)

Boss fights - be prepared to die a few times learning how they move and how to negate their attacks. Quick kills aren't going to happen and they usually hit hard so take the time to learn how to block/dodge their attacks. DS is a real case of "slow and steady wins the race".

Others can probably offer better advice than that as I can't really remember DS1 but have just come off DS2. It's a shitload of fun but punishing if you get lax

I have it on Steam now but I did play a pirated copy very briefly on friday and saturday to try it out because I wasn't sure about it. I played a Knight which seemed to be able to take a beating and hit fairly hard. I did die a few times but managed to recover my shit every time which was good. And yeah, I learnt from the first boss in the tutorial area that being cautious and observing their patterns pays dividends.

I got to some point where I ran up some stairs and some dick whistler rolled a flaming barrel down it which knocked me off the cliff. I may or may not have rage uninstalled at that point.
