I thought the Capra Demon would be a painful fight as a sorcerer. It was painful at the start because the dogs were laying into me and my scimitar took three swings each to take them out. I lucked out while blindly running away and landed on the top of a door where the Capra Demon couldn't realistically attack me and smoked him with soul arrows. Meanwhile the Gaping Dragon was absurdly easy with soul arrows (it was kinda easy in melee too though). The only boss that's killed me, once, was Moonlight Butterfly, which managed to kill me at the same point I killed it. Anyway...maybe I was wrong about Dark Souls limiting the power of soul arrows. Capra Demon is probably the most cramped fight in the game and it didn't change anything.

Random observations:

-Is it just me or does an attack in DS1 have a feeling of weight to it while DS2 attacks don't? There's a sense of momentum when you see a boss' health bar dying in DS1. Maybe it's just the sound effect, I don't know.

-I've noticed that I remember where every location is in DS1 and how they all connect, while I struggled earlier today to remember where Hunstman's Copse is in DS2 and what it links to afterwards.

-Dark Souls is a lot better than Dark Souls 2.

I finished it! The most unique and satisfying game I've played in a long while. The thing that got to me more than anything else was the oppressively miserable atmosphere. There's an immensely powerful survival horror vibe coursing through the proceedings. It was often downright terrifying.

I deliberately left the poison swamp for last because people said that it's one of the most annoying areas of any Souls game, and I now understand what they mean. The layout is confusing, you get poisoned every few steps, and the enemies are a nuisance. You also can't roll or run, while the monsters have their full range of movement. It's not an enjoyable area, but it led to Maiden Astrea, which turned out to be the most interesting arch-demon encounter in the game. Not mechanically - I killed her with just one cast of Firestorm - but thematically and morally. She didn't even attack me. She just wanted to keep running her peaceful refuge for lost and diseased souls, until I came and killed everyone for no good reason. Kinda felt like murdering Mother Teresa. It was a strangely sad and poignant moment.

I wanted to pick the bad ending since it seemed more true to my power-mad sorcerer, but only the good one gives you a trophy, so I saved the world after all. Maybe I'll be an evil bastard on the next playthrough.

I'll definitely get Dark Souls soon, but I think I need to cleanse my palate with something lighter and more cheery. Something like Papers, Please! I'm looking forward to that one.

My only regret is that I never got invaded or summoned. I was looking forward to it. Being invaded would have been such a rush. The biggest downer was the Old Monk boss, in which you're supposed to fight another player, but I ended up with a stupidly easy AI opponent because there was no one around. And it's not like the online is dead. I kept seeing lots of ghosts and new floor messages everywhere. It's just that everyone seemed to mind their own business. I probably should have invaded someone myself, but I never really thought about it. The invading mechanics were sort of fuzzy anyway.

I never got invaded or summoned in Dark Souls. Dark Souls 2 is where all the fun is at now.

I remember the first time I ever summoned someone into my game to help was the level with the Old Monk, I swear I nearly shat my pants when we got to the end and I realised what was happening. The fight ended up being one of the most epic duels I've ever had in a Souls game.

I wish the Dark Souls games did more with those mechanics. Dark Souls 2 has some pretty cool mechanics within the covenant and invading, but the co-op and the PvP are kept pretty separate.

The way invasions work in Grave of Saints is awesome. It took me a while to figure out what was happening. That said, it's pretty imbalanced in favour of the person in the covenant. If they stay near the enemies it's really hard to win.

You don't actually have to kill them though, you just have to get through the fog gate at the end to win. When people realise this it's a pretty fun gauntlet.

Oh okay. I guess that makes the booby traps a lot more useful.

Anyway, I just killed Gwynevere expecting a soul or ring and then THAT happens. I thought I'd seen it all or at least knew about it all. Awesome.

I thought you said you killed Gwyndolin in your first playthrough?

I said Gwynevere brah.

I killed Gwyndolin in the first play through by using the Darkmoon Seance Ring to reach him.

Oh right I forgot you could get to Gwyndolin with that ring. Another way is to kill Gwynevere and he's revealed.

Yeah I know he really destroyed me this time around. I wanna try to do the bosses in a different order this time so that I'm not so beefed up that Gwyndolin, Sif, Nito, Four Kings and Seath are complete knockovers. It's interesting how weak they are in the late game compared to the DLC bosses which strike a really good balance. Not the best scaling unfortunately.

It looks like the bulk of 360's Dark Souls community resides in Anor Londo. There are always summons at the bonfires while I've only seen a single summons anywhere else. I had a guy help me with Gwyndolin and it was bloody fun running down the hallway with him. I finished my Estus Flasks in that fight because I suck at dodging Gwyndolin's honing attack but the phantom dealt the final blow in time. Also summoned a guy during S&O who was so good I didn't get to do much, and another guy just after killing Gwynevere who just stood and watched a fight until the enemy killed me. I wish I knew what he was thinking. Still haven't been invaded unfortunately.

Oh and the Four Kings are a massive trial at this point in the game. I was so quick the first time around that I assumed a new king emerges once the previous one is slain. I'm so weak that all four emerge before I manage to kill the first. Might have to bite the bullet and spend all the souls I've been saving up.

It'd help if there was a goddamn bonfire within five minutes of the boss arena.

I don't really have anything to go and do otherwise except the Catacombs. I want to unlock the orange barriers with the serpent who isn't Kingseeker Frampt.

I did like twelve invasions yesterday, most of them as a Forest Hunter but a couple in Anor Londo too. My only victories were due to suicides: I think one guy killed himself in Anor Londo because I simply couldn't locate him and he got bored? In other fights I was simply outmatched or suffering from massive lag.

One dude attacked me during my opening bow. I would rather fight soldiers with honour and integrity than rogues like this.

I also finally got my first invasion ever in the Catacombs. The guy killed me at full health with a single magic attack. I haven't figured out why it was so easy for him. I wasn't using my shield and was close but jeez. It was some kind of attack where five magic orbs appear above his head and he launches them.
