Multi-platform games are not exactly new. For instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Persia_%281989_video_game%29#Ports http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Lemmings_ports Back then, most third pary developers couldn't afford to limit themselves to a single platform. |

Do you think exclusive games are better or worse for the consumer then? |

It depends. If you're comparing "game comes out on a subset of platforms" vs. "game comes out on all platforms", then exclusives are bad for the consumer. If you're comparing "game comes out on a subset of platforms" vs. "game is never made", then exclusive is better than nothing. It's not always clear which category each exclusive game falls into though. |

It's a tough call really as, in many cases, the financial gain for a developer to restrict their title to one platform is well worth it. In most case a financially viable investment by them for an exclusive means they get additional exposure and stability for when they make game 2... so, in a way, it could end up being good for the consumer anyway |

I don't think we were suggesting multi-platform games were new, and if we were... shame on us! At least Dave and I are old enough to know better. Times have changed though - in those days, there were quite a few more options available to potential videogame players, so I guess there was little choice to developers but to get the game out on EVERYTHING. Plus, those were the days when a game could be thrown at one single person given the task to port - the quality differed greatly from port to port as a result. But, of course, multi-platform games are not a bad thing, and never will be (we went off course when we discussed multi-platform) - I just ALSO believe in exclusives.
