I think that door requires two of those keys in the top right corner of the HUD. Did you get both or just the one? |

Pretty sure I got everything I needed as, before I had, the prompt was that I needed something to unlock the gate |

Finished a few games over my holiday break, but back at uni again this week Thoroughly enjoyed Dead Rising 3, did a fair bit of exploration around the sand box environment and deliberately delayed main stories to collect as much clothes and weapon blue prints as I could without the timer going off. Slaughtered a lot of zombies for fun as well. Managed to rescue 24/25 civilians, fucked up the one where the autosave didnt allow me to replay the mission. Did all the side quests and even used the smart glass app which was a good idea and provided additional side stories. I still want to play on it with it and do the DLC stories but its just so overpriced on the Xbox market. Completed Ryse. It wasnt as fun as DR3 as I played it immediately after completing DR3. Has its moments, but it also has its repetition and clunky controlling at times. Its a pretty basic hack and slash style game and the QTE slaughters kind of get boring. Leveling up also felt a little insignificant. However Im kinda of grinding it for some additional achievements right now and upped the difficultly and looking for all the missed collectibles, I didnt find on the first playthrough. Pretty simple game overall but I still enjoyed it overall. Started Telltale Back To the future way back in January and finally got moving with episodes 2-5 the last week while playing it at work. Really Really enjoyed the experience. Love the simplicity of the game itself and the controls, but the whole BTTF campaign was well written and characters, alternate timelines just did it for me. I really hope there will be a season 2 for the game but its obviously very unlikely. Ready to crack on with some more Telltale games I bought over various Steam sales the past few years. Captain Toad Adventure I finished just before my holidays started and I also invested a fair bit of time and effort into that game. I didnt unlock the final bonus stage which is suppose to be quite hectic but did manage to play through all the 3 main books plus the bonus levels afterwards. Managed a 95% completion rate or there abouts and figured it was time to move on. Another solid experience with that game and in fact it was the first game I contemplated buying an amiibo to get the extra bonuses out of each level with the Toad Amiibo but at the end couldnt justify the purchase. Oh also completed Luigis Mansions 2. Easily my favourite 3DS title to date. Put a fair bit of time into that as well, collected the majority of boos and gems but also decided once I completed the main story it wasnt worth backtracking to get all of them, as the ending was the same regardless. |

Just finished Alien Isolation. I quite enjoyed it, I retain my statement about it being my favourite horror game, though I'd say it's really not that horror orientated. It's more of a stealthy survival game that makes you feel vulnerable. By comparison to something like Dead Space that many people consider horror (I don't at all because it's horror is piss weak, they're just fun action games to me with the rare bit of legitimate horror here and there) it shows how much of a high pedigree the Alien universe is. I really, really admire how it's just not trying hard to be scary at all, but still can manage to be so. Something like Dead Space (which I think is actually a very good comparison given the relative similarities of their settings) is just so ham-fisted and so incredibly lame by comparison. Dead Space's reliance of jump scares (complete with loud orchestral music) and "disturbing" imagery that triggers my yawn reflex just seems so absurdly lazy and such a juvenile 'horror' philosophy by comparison to the legitimate tension in AI, which in it's 18 hours hand a mere handful of intentional jump scares. It just reflects the tastefulness of the first two films so well. The Creative Assembly's use of and faithfulness to Alien and Aliens is just superb. I particularly liked how a bit after the halfway mark the game lulls you into a false sense of security for an hour or so where you go around just blasting away working joes, only for the game to knock you back down a few pegs. It was great for variety's sake, but also as a bit of a halftime relief and a great transition into the game's more deadly and intimidating second half. The presentation of the game is just fantastic, too. The graphics are fantastic (and it's a great port too, runs really well), but I want to give the sound designer a big, sloppy blowjob. The use of dynamic range in this game was really quite something. It really brought the mechanical porn (which there was quite a bit of) to life. Powering up a generator or engine and barely being able to hear a thing was a great touch. However, there were issues with the music at times. The music was great, don't get me wrong, but on rare occasion it would become too loud. I encountered some minor bugs, but nothing game breaking. Only a single bug that actually inhibited gameplay, I just had to reload back about 2 minutes to my last save, nothing major at all. I would say that the last 25% of the game got a bit out of control with it's fake-outs, though. It seemed to rely on the same old trick of "Ok, I've made it, I'm safe... Oh no! Something went wrong, now I have to go do this, then it should be over...". The last quarter of the game's direction seems to be that 5 or 6 times over, all just trying to get off the station. Don't get me wrong, we see some really cool stuff during this part, but it's very predictable that what you're doing isn't going to work. The ending? Spoiler: click to toggle Overall I quite enjoyed it, really solid game. I bought the two pieces of Nostromo / Alien themed DLC with it so I'll start on them soon. Looking forward to playing as Sigourney Weaver. |

Maybe you only hit the prompt once. And heard a misleading thud. You're supposed to 'activate' or open the door with the same amount of times as keys or energy that the door requires. |

I finished the Vita port of Jak & Daxter. I had played the game back on the PS2, but that was long enough ago for me to forget the specifics. I think the game holds up pretty well today. It looks pretty, and has a (mostly) seemless open world to explore. There are aspects that date it decidedly though, such as Jak having a maximum of 4 hit points, and needing to collect 50 green eco to regain one hit point. There are also parts of the game that are difficult due to poor camera control. In a few sections the game switches to a fixed camera and wants you to jump to a moving platform that is off screen for most of the time. The worst was the yellow eco switch cave, where you also had to contend with icy surfaces and pistons that'd push you off the platforms. As far as the port goes, the PS3 version is likely better. It seemed a lot harder to time double jumps than I remember, and looking at other peoples' comments on the Internet it seems I'm not alone. Despite that, it still played quite well and I liked having the game on a handheld. The game has the same mapping of L2/R2 to portions of the rear touch pad as seen in Ratchet & Clank, but it was pretty harmless here because those buttons just bring up the HUD here. |

Finished Life is Strange Episode 4. I totally called the big revelation at the end. The character moments were fantastic with alot of memorable high points. But I felt the actual content and pacing of the episode felt rather weak. It jumped from locale to locale. It was filled with alot of sidetracking, but I didnt think the 'puzzles' or adventuring elements were too bad, they were just layered in a way that felt intrusive - 3 locked doors to get to a place is 2 too many. There were some scenes where the dialogue didnt feel like it flowed or connected properly and those were the scenes which had the most branching outcomes. Still a good episode. Ep 4 spoilers Spoiler: click to toggle

Just finished Wolfenstein The New Order. Yeah, it was ok, but I didn't really enjoy it as much as I had anticipated. It's definitely not bad, but it feels merely competent overall rather than being an outstanding game. I don't know if I just wasn't in the mood at times, but I actually found it a bit of slog to get through here and there. The shooting mechanics are quite solid and satisfying to use, I really like the alternate history setup and all the futuristic shit. It's just that it felt quite standard in a lot of ways other than that. The story telling really wasn't anything special, I certainly didn't get invested enough for any of the sad moments to have any impact what-so-ever. I really can't complain too much though, it was enjoyable overall. Next time I want a solid, competent shooter and have nothing else I'll probably get my hands on The Old Blood. |

Haha. There's an emerging pattern with you where you seem thrilled by a game initially before feeling underwhelmed and/or frustrated later on. |

Honestly, the opening 20 minutes set in WW2 were actually the most exciting, impressive parts of the game for me :/ |

I got in a Far Cry bundle a while back but remember playing the demo on 360 and being turned off by the meta humour. Does it get funny? |

I found it funny, though it's mostly meta humour the whole way through. References to 80s films, puns, even a meme or two. What I thought was best about it was the musical cues showing tribute to various things, since that was more subtle and it just suited the game so well. So, no, it's really more for basic bitches like me
