A hard eight is two fours on the dice when gambling.

Isn't two fours statistically just as difficult as any other number? Except 1 or anything 13 and above of course.

It is, but because it's two fours it's called a hard eight. It's the only gambling term I know.

That reminds me I need to finish Gunpoint. I think I had only a couple of missions to go. Certainly a cool game that could go to some great places in a sequel.

I finished off Deadpool. Gameplay wise, the melee combat and guns felt fun and varied. However, it felt like bullets did way too much damage to Deadpool relative to melee attacks (particularly on the hardest difficulty setting, where low level enemies could take you out in 5 seconds with guns).

If you were faced with only melee enemies, it was pretty easy to take them out with normal attacks and counters. If you were only facing enemies with guns, you could hide behind a wall and take them out with your guns. When faced with a mix, I'd often be trying to concentrate on the melee enemies while spinning the camera trying to find out who was shooting at me and die.

With that said, I really enjoyed the humour in the game, and Nolan North did a good job voicing Deadpool. It also has little intros for the various characters for people who might not be familiar with them (e.g. the "Who the Fuck is Cable?" song). Like the comics, Deadpool quite often breaks the fourth wall in the game. For instance, at the start he can't be bothered reading the game's script so you end up attacking a television station in the first level without a good idea of why (both you as the player, and Deadpool as the player character).

It isn't a particularly deep game and doesn't feel as polished as AAA games, but I had fun with it. If you can still find it (it's no longer available for download due to licensing reasons), it's worth a play.

I completed The Novelist earlier today. Visually, it's an attractive looking game and the gameplay is pretty clever. However, the story is quite dull, unengaging and lacks emotion. I was hoping for a more exciting twist to the story, something dramatic to spice things up, but the entire game revolves around everyday issues of a very average family.

Despite this, I thought the game introduced an interesting and unique new way to play an interactive novel, which makes it worth a look for fans of the genre.

I'd give it a light 9
What's a light nine?
tossing up between an 8 or 9 but went with the latter. Seems better to describe how you feel about the game more than something silly like a decimal place.

You should go back and finish it. It's really short. Probably takes around 3 hours to complete.

The last level is abit of an odd one though. Felt more actiony than stealth (besides one floor).

Finished Blood of the Werewolf. Pretty decent. The game remained pretty consistent with its challenge until the end. Though the sections of platforming in the last 2 levels where you play as the woman (the game constantly switches between her and the werewolf during levels and even bosses, though you don't have control over it) got to be frustrating and and not fun to play at all. Sections with the werewolf were challenging but still fun through to the end.

I think there are about 5 bosses in the game, only the last 2 are at all difficult. The first few are piss easy, including a battle against Dracula. I beat them all on my first try with no problem. The last two put up a good fight though with some attacks that require better timing and skill to dodge.

The gameplay is generally fun. The woman has a crossbow to attack enemies and the werewolf has melee attacks and a double jump. They both have special attacks that you'll pick up upgrades for in the environment (some are hidden). There is a missed opportunity here though. With the differences between characters, you'd think you could switch between them on the fly to solve puzzles or move past platforming sections, but you can't do that. Basically when you can see the moon, the game switches you to werewolf. This is used only a couple of times where the game switches you back and forth quickly to get through a platforming section, but that's it. I understand what they were going for logically, but they could have still made a lot more use out of it even if you couldn't manually switch.

There's a story, I don't know what it is though. I think this is one of the first games in a very long time where I've skipped cutscenes. I was doing it inadvertantly at first. I was reading the text and then pressing skip because I didn't care to hear the VO. But it wasn't until I was over halfway through that I realised there was a lot more text, I just needed to wait for the VO. I figured it was too late to start reading it all now, so I continued skipping through it all.

I think the game has a nice art style, reminiscent of Guacamelee, the character and monster designs are nice. The environments are nothing special, but they're fine. The bosses are cool too. The character animations are fine though the werewolf can move a little awkwardly at times. Speaking of that, jumping is kind of floaty, however the controls are pretty responsive, so that's not a huge issue.

Overall, this is a solid game. There are some annoying sequences, and the bosses are overall disappointingly easy and forgettable, but it's still fun. It lasts about 5 hours, so for $2 as it is currently priced on Steam, it's worth it. I'd probably give it a 7/10.

I like The Wolf Among Us but I've learned that in the future I'll wait until Telltale finish a series before I play it. Playing it in hour-long pieces over more than half a year has sucked.

Spec Ops has run-of-the-mill gameplay but also a very daunting atmosphere, and considerable emotional depth. I can't even remember if I liked the twist or not but the white phosphorous scene stands out.

I agree, I only just bought Wolf among us on the steam sales so I got to play through all 4 episodes in a row. Kinda annoying that the 4th episode ends on a huge cliffhanger and we'll have to wait a month or two until the next episode, but I guess it comes with the territory.

Was really bummed at the recent announcement that the next Dreamfall game is going back to an episodic format. It was announced as episodic, then turned into a full blown release for the Kickstarter and reannounced back as episodic format for alot of reasons. Citing easier QA/testing, Voice over contracting and being able to increase the production values on a steady revenue of releases.

The only game where I kept up to date with episodic releases was with Telltales' Monkey Island 3D reboot. The waiting time really takes the air out of it. And that was mostly driven on humor up until the 3rd episode.

I never got far with Specs Ops, the gameplay bored me to tears with it's mediocrity.
Fuck_Giver.exe has stopped working!

I think I respect Spec Ops: The Line more than I actually liked it. I liked the wonderfully realised Dubai-turned-Bioshock's-Rapture and general atmosphere towards the latter part of the game more than its overall narrative. I remember the revelation at the end, but I was rather lukewarmed by it.

It's gameplay was bland and mundane. It had unnecessary babysitting, where its tacked-on squad mechanics was the reason for most of my 'Game overs' and deaths. But its gameplay has a few merits with some nice level layouts to manoeuvre and push through. Its best moments were its quietest and its busiest 'highs' were its worst moments.

I really liked the licensed soundtrack.
