Some more thoughts on AC3: Liberation:

I got through the entire story without buying stronger weapons. I did get Connor's tomahawk from the PS3 linkage, but nothing else. By the time stronger enemies started showing up I had the whip, which pretty much breaks the combat system. Liberation still has the system where some enemies are resistant to the standard counter move, and others to the kick move. But when you have the whip, the triangle + square combo will instantly kill pretty much any enemy and seems to give you invulnerability for the second half of the combo. It even worked for some of the boss fights.

Related to my complaints about lacklustre storytelling, the game is supposedly showing you a version of history sanitised by Abstergo. You then have Erudito (the hacker character from the other games' multiplayer storyline) providing you with unedited versions of each sequence's final cut scene. To unlock these, you need to find and kill a particular person somewhere. However it isn't always obvious where these people are, so sometimes I'd progress through the main missions a fair way before unlocking the Erudito cut scene for a previous sequence. So I ended up watching an intentionally bland cut scene the first time around, and be removed from the surrounding events when I watched the real version. It seemed like a weird design decision.

South Park: Stick of Truth. Man, this game is one of the most hilarious games I've ever played. So wrong, but so right. A comedic masterpiece that builds its crass jokes slowly til the great finale. Really bloody enjoyable and my current GOTY. Will play it through again in a few months time to finish up the trophies. 9/10

For once I agree with your overly high score on a game :D

I'd give it a 7/10. It had some killer jokes here and there but relied too heavily on self-referential humour, usually just pulling jokes directly from the show. Both the fighting and sidequests felt like they were cribbed from Paper Mario TTYD, and that game not only did both things better but was also funnier. The game also ended so abruptly that I doubt they finished it the way they'd planned.

I thought the 3rd day was by far the best because the ideas used in the Canada and abortion clinic parts were so hilarious and well integrated.

Dark Souls II... it's finally my bitch! Took me 57 hours to complete (I thought it was higher but I was going by Steam playtime which included my first attempt).

LOVED the game to pieces. Only had two issues with it really. 1. It felt like the difficulty was a bit cheap at times. I was a melee only fighter and some of the large bosses required you to be so close it made it very hard to read and counter their moves. I suppose I could have had a range/magic setup to counter that but I'd specced myself heavily in one direction I didn't want to stray.

2. It felt too confusing knowing where to go at the end. I ended up using a guide to find all the memories/giant souls. Kinda annoyed me doing it but, by that time, I was feeling a little tired of being so badly beaten upo all the time that I just wanted to know where to :)

Aside from that the game was fantastic. Kept the sense of "life value" and exploratory reward that I loved with the other. I also liked the bonfire additions. Made navigation and safe points so much better although, I suppose, it did break the game up a little where the shotcut uncovering of Demon's Souls felt more natural.

Anyway, sen-fucking-sational game. I recommend it to anyone who's up for a challenge. Quite difficult but very rewarding too!

If anyone's interested these were my stats at the end of the game.

The Wonderful 101 - ok game, you play as power rangers...shape detection has some problems..pick ups a gun when you draw a whip...most annoying is the double spear & the boomerang...should have gone with different shapes rather than similar. Forces you to change weapon for no reason..last boss 1 leg can be hit with unite sword...the other leg same distance cannot be hit with unite sword?. Some parts camera zooms out too much can't see (maybe Im just blind). Motion sickness when certain section forces you to use gamepad motion view. Has punch out game & arcade shooter in the game. Last boss took waaay too long..comes back too many times. JPN voice sounds much better (I am bias). Overall not my type of game. :P

I'm with you with a slight alteration to the last night. For me it would read "Overall my type of game... if they'd just done it right". Lol.

Had loads of versatility in combat/combos but very little instruction or incentive on how to use them properly

Mario Kart 8 (with the kids). Such a fantastic kart racing game although, as always, I found the rubber banding a little unfair. In particular I found it unfair that, if a human was in the top 3 spots, you'd only get green shells or bananas yet, if a CPU player was in the same spot they could get everything from red shells to invincibility.

Another strage thing I noticed was that the end credits were of a really poor resolution/quality. Same footage from the game but without all the effects or smooth edges. Looked really bad and was surprising seeing as the "live action replay" stuff looked so great.

All said and done this was one of the best Mario Kart games I've played. It controlled well and everything staggered nicely. Courses were interesting and the usual swathe of shortcuts rewarded item saving well. The replay and youtube upload stuff was great and I enjoyed having the WiiU gamepad views although, when playing multiplayer on screen, it was a shame the gamepad couldn't be set to show just my view. You can set it to show track, character info, positions or the image on screen.

One thing this game made me realise is that we really need a new 3D Mario game. The special effects and lighting on things like the flying koopas and scenery really showed what the WiiU and Mario teams are capable of. Quit with the New.Something.U sidescrollers... change that to the format of the Mario World 3D game and then use the other time to release a new 3D game. It could be so fun and look so pretty!!!

Didn't they already release a 3D Mario game?

I love Mario Kart 8 to bits. Ridiculously good fun. I like that the higher classes are actually challenging as well. Visually this game is such a treat to look at too.

Do you know what the stars under the trophies (when you complete a cup) mean mean?

If it is like the other recent games, it is your ranking based on your overall time to complete the cup (with 3 stars being the highest).

It's a performance based measure that goes alongside the cups and gives extra rewards. In previous games it was based on things like staying in first for the majority of a race or achieving a certain time; none of which was displayed on screen. In Mario Kart 8, sadly, it's now just granted based on the number of times you place 1st. Place 1st in all four races and you get all three stars. Kinda takes the challenge out of it a little :(

Right. That's a bit confusing. The progression system with unlocking characters and car parts is very confusing in this game and not explained properly - not that having different car parts really matters though.

It's just like Nintendoland which is confusing for the sake of being confusing - even though the minigames are a lot of fun.

How are the characters and car parts confusing? Press + and you can see the differences they make to your car's stats. I found the tradeoffs between speed, grip, acceleration, etc. to be quite noticeable.

Here's a helping hand for unlockables if you need it

Characters - Randomnly granted for each gold trophy you get until you have them all.
Character stamps - Just complete all four races with a character to get their stamp (in case you're unaware stamps are used when posting to Miiverse. Go intro draw mode and you can then stamp images from all the games you've unlocked them in)
Car parts - Get a new car part every 50 coins you collect (running total). When that count reaches 100 coins you get new parts every 100 coins instead. Dunno how high that goes as I'm still getting more parts after each cup :)
Mirror Mode - Get a gold trophy on all 8 grand prix's
Gold Parts - Perform special tasks to get them. I'll have to google what exactly you need to do though so gimme a sec :)

Edit : Here you go

Gold Standard Kart - Get at least one star on every regular Grand Prix (150cc) and Mirror Mode race to unlock the Gold Standard kart. Getting one star requires you to get 1st place in 3 out of the 4 races (about 54 points).
Gold Tires - Beat every Staff Ghost in Time Trials
Gold Glider - Collect 10,000 Coins (playing Multiplayer on- or offline is a great way to collect coins fast)

I mean that there's no easy way to track your progression with them in the game. There should be an easy progression chart, or at least tell you how you progress. As it is, there's no real explanation of it. The same with how to boost as well - it's one of the key elements of Mario Kart and they deal with it like you should know what you're doing. I do know what I'm doing, but what if someone else doesn't?
