Finally finished Hotline Miami (on Vita). Took me a while to warm to it but I'm hellishly addicted now. still think it's too inconsistent to be considered perfect but it's definitely enjoyable... just not the bit when you die because of a glitch rather than a genuine fuckup. Anyway the story had me confused... then I got the puzzle pieces and thought I understood it... then I wrote it out and I'm still confused. What did you guys make of it? Here's my take Spoiler: click to toggle ![]()

Satisfactorily completed Arkham City just before. 100% on Story and side missions for the main game as well as New Game + along with all the Riddler trophies/secrets/challenges collected. Felt like it was worth doing not only to fill out the parts in the statistics menu but completing the Riddler stuff gives the interviews with different characters as well as little bits and pieces of backstory for the city and different characters, which are all pretty interesting. The concept art is nice too. I tried out a couple of of the challenge rooms and combat rooms or whatever you call them (where you try and score as many points as possible) and it's cool that they are there but they don't interest me much. There's no extra incentive other than 100% and I got into plenty of large fights and stealth room sequences during my two playthroughs of the campaign. There's a lot of content for a single-player action game. I clocked 55 hours according to Steam and it could be a lot more if I wanted to do those challenge rooms and perfect my combat and stealth skills. It's clear that a lot of time, love and effort went into both Arkham games and I appreciate that. I had great fun during my time with it, it'll be nice to move onto something else now. Not sure what yet. Perhaps either Ass Creed Revelations, or Far Cry 3. |

I got Revelations as well but only played very little of it (got Brotherhood as well but haven't started that). The only AC I have finished is the 2nd game. |

AC 1 and 2 were great then it just devolves into "rinse and repeat" with bigger explosions and increasingly unrealistic "wow" moments. Haven't played 4 though. Was too burnt out by then to succomb to all the hype and praise it got |

Yeah I wasn't overly impressed with brotherhood but I was also kind of burnt out after 2. I think I played them too close together. I feel like I'm ready to play Revelations though I'm not all that interested. I'd prefer to jump straight to 3. I bought it though so I might as well play it, even if I just power through it. Definitely won't worry about side stuff and collectables. Spent too much time with that shit in the previous two and it was partly why I was tired of the series so soon. Might still play Far Cry 3 first. At least I actually want to play that. |

Assassins Creed needs to improve its combat first and foremost. It has always been incredibly shallow. Pretty animations can only take it so far before you see the same animations pla out and get outright bored of its combat encounters. Regardless of that though, between Far Cry 3, AC: Black Flag and what Watch Dogs is shaping up to be, I personally think Ubi make better open world games than Rockstar now. |

That's a fair opinion to have. I don't think Rockstar are unrivaled anymore in the open world department and Ubisoft have been doing a good job for a while. All the AC games have had great atmosphere and a good amount of liveliness. From what I've seen of Watch Dogs it looks good in that department but no better than GTA4 and what I've seen from 5 (haven't played 5). Also I think Rockstar does story and characters better than most others in my opinion. Can't say anything about FC3 but I might start playing that this weekend. |

I should probably give Far Cry 3 another chance. I played an hour of it and found it boring. There wasn't a single fresh idea in its sandbox. It had the towers you scale to open up a detailed map like AC, meaningless checkpoint races like just about every open world game ever made, animal hunting like Red Dead Redemption, acres of jungle you explore more out of obligation than anything else, along with countless uninspired shooty missions and a seemingly anonymous storyline. Liberate this base, attack that one... I had a violent reaction against it and haven't played an open world game since. It's clearly a decent game though, so maybe I should pick up where I left off now that I've had a good break from that type of thing.

Far Cry 3 does nothing new but does everything well. The variety in how you approach objectives is fantastic and the variety in scenery and weather made traversing the place really fun for me. I enjoyed the decent shooting mechanics and had a blast finding the best way to tackle the various enemy bases. I actually completely forgot about the bro-fest storyline for a while and spent a decent chunk of time figuring out the most efficient way to take a base ![]() Oh and it looks fucking beautiful too ![]()

I played the singleplayer at a friends house a few months back, it didn't grab me very much. |

The driving physics were fucking rubbish, GTA IV's are way better. |

I finished Papers, Please and managed to get through about 5 endings (out of 20). In the end, I sided with the opposition and helped bring down the authoritarian government. My wife and son survived (just barely), but my uncle, mother in law and niece all died. Anyway, it was 5 hours well spent. Definitely one of the more clever and interesting indie games I've played. It's not exactly fun, since the gameplay consists of little more than looking at ever-increasing piles of documents on your desk (there's also some rudimentary shooting to vary the pace), but there is a certain satisfaction to be gained from becoming an efficient border guard. I always got a kick from getting through a day without any violations. It also gets a lot of mileage out of the difficult moral decisions it constantly throws your way. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone expecting a traditional game, but those looking for something different should enjoy it. |

I finished off Mass Effect. While some bits feel a bit clunky by today's standards (e.g. the seemingly random intervals between auto-saves, and the fact that the whole game pauses while it auto-saves), I'm glad I finally got around to playing it. It certainly beats the comic book version that came with Mass Effect 2

Completed Beyond Two Souls last night. For me it was a game I rather enjoyed, very heavy on the story and that is what I look for in a game. I can see why people also disliked the game, due to the fact its more of an interactive movie rather than a game. If you want something that will test your gaming reflexes and skills this is not the type of game for you. If you want a game driven by emotion and story and best of all the ability to create your story by your actions, play the game. Its exactly how I picture books to end up when I had my discussion on how books are boring and this is a superior method in my opinion on how to deliver a book rather than simply just reading text. Anyway, ill play the game again and try to trophy whore a few extras by taking a more opposite approach to the decisions. |
