Thanks for the "heads up" MJ. This was a really enjoyable game with only a couple of instances where I'd figured something out based on evidence and got frustrated having to go thru vague dim witted dialogue to get there.

I really liked the way they did the game. You basically investigate stuff by tapping locations and zooming. Anything you find is entered into evidence and then you question the person and can present evidence to support theories. I really liked the way they did the dialogue too. E.g. you'd have four options but they were worded vaguely enough that, unless you'd figured out what you were meant to, it wasn't obvious which one to choose. I.e. you had to figure stuff out rather than just rely on the multiple choice answers having enough info for you to deduce the correct one.

Great game. Well worth a couple of bucks :)

Just knocked over God of War: Ascension. Despite a poor difficulty spike right near the end of the game, it's a relatively easy God of War installment. A few things bother me about it - mostly to do with the fact that it's downright impossible to tell what's going on half the time. There's a lot of time jumping with the story which makes no sense whatsoever. Visually it also looks poorer than God of War III. Overall, if someone was coming to the series and playing this one first, they'd be disappointed. 6.5/10

Knocked off the standard mode of Diablo III Reaper of Souls last night. Nice little expansions but the end was a bit annoying. Reminded me of the D2 ending.

After finishing I immediately fired up Adventure mode and am enjoying that way more than the story mode of expansion. Probably helped that I was doing it with a nicely mixed party (barb, wizard monk (me) and one other that alternated as people dropped in/out).

Forgot how addictive this game was! Have a completely new build now designed around elemental defence, stacking dexterity and then using that to increase my armor and spirit restore. Pretty decent build although those arcane sentries still own me pretty easily. I think they're physical damage

Just knocked off the evil playthrough of Infamous Second Son. Really enjoyable game. Out of the three games, this one had the weakest evil playthrough. Started on the good playthrough and already that's much better. I think the problem is that the story is heavily swayed towards a good playthrough as they continue the story from the good finish for infamous 2. Gets an 8/10 for the evil playthrough. Will probably end with an 8.5/10 once I finish the good playthrough.

So I just finished the main story of Arkham Origins. Pretty mediocre. It was short, too. The game felt quite tired (especially in the combat) and I seriously considered uninstalling it when I was in Blackgate. There was just next to nothing new introduced in the game.

I happily found all of the trophies and completed all riddles and sidequests in Asylum and City, and I'll try doing that stuff in this one but based on the quality of the stuff I did already I won't be surprised if I don't get through it all. A lot of the riddles and data packs were very basic and un-inventive.

Honestly, I think Carolyn Petit's 6.0 score was very fair. Many people have said "It's just like more of City, sure it doesn't add anything new but it's just more of the same good game!" which I think is bullshit. It's clearly of a lower standard than City. It's more content of a lower quality.

Platinumed infamous second son. The second playthrough is crazy easy on extreme. I didn't even notice a difficulty change to be honest. Also, if you're not going for the side missions and are just completing the main missions, the game can be knocked over in about six hours. I stick with my 8/10 rating thigh. Very good, just not great.

That's the problem with numeric rating systems; there's no standard. See when you say a game is an 8 I view it as a pretty damn awesome game. A game that's good but not great would be a 6 or maybe 7 for me

I go by the Stevivor rating system personally as I feel it's pretty fair and provides a good cross section for all that games can be

Problem with numeric rating systems is that everyone uses and perceives them differently

Stevivor

1-2/10 - This is the sort of product we wouldn’t recommend to our worst enemy, let alone our loyal and supportive readers. Buggy, uninspired, and incredibly tragic, we probably set fire to the game when we were done playing it.

3-4/10 - Any game scored in this realm is just shy of average quality; there's just something about it that's not quite right. It’s not going to be a total waste of your time, but it’s probably best to buy this from the bargain bin or only if you’re a big fan of the genre.

5-6/10 - Any game in this bracket is a solid and enjoyable title; or, in one word: average. Whilst the developer isn't pushing the envelope of game design, it’s balanced enough that you'll most likely enjoy it, even if you’re not a huge fan of the content or genre.

7-8/10 - The upper expanse of our review scale is reserved for above average, excellent games that have been extensively polished and refined in all areas. Games given this score are arguably genre-defining, and could be considered enjoyable by almost anyone.

9-10/10 - The highest respect we could pay a video game. This score will be infrequently handed out, and when it is you know you’ve got an absolute classic on your hands. A living digital representation of perfection, any title we score with this is without a doubt something you must own.

I should clarify, I thought the good playthrough was very good. The evil play through I'd rate as great. I'll do a review up soon.

Man, fuck Arkham Origins. I just uninstalled it. Buggy, inferior game to the first two. Different development team shows big time. The care, attention to detail, creativity and effort from Rocksteady is lacking bigtime in this one. I would recommend skipping it unless you're really curious. Once Arkham Knight is out I would say not to play it period.

So after completing the main story, I wanted to complete the sidequests, the big one (like the first two) being the Enigma sidequest. Catching the riddler was probably my favourite part of Asylum and City... Man, oh man, what a disappointment in this game. There was absolutely no riddles, totally removed from the game. And the datapacks (trophies) were the most laborious, uncreative, unchallenging, unfun thing to get. A stark contrast from before.

However, I should almost thank the game, because a bug made it impossible for me to complete the quest. One of the datapacks that I'd already gotten was appearing on the map, and would actually graphically appear for a split second before disappearing. I'd already gotten it, and it was impossible to get it again, so I was stuck with a 9/10 datapacks for the area with nothing I could do about it. I had to call it quits with the game there.

Honestly, until Knight is out, I would actually say this game would be worth playing on sale but ONLY for the main story content, which was OK I guess. I must stress, that's only if you really want some more Batman Arkham gameplay RIGHT NOW if you can't wait. Don't touch the sidequest stuff though, it's bad and a last minute, slapped on effort. I could go on and on about lots of problems with it, but I'll keep it concise. Just don't bother with the side content at all if you want to play this game.

Completed The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead 400 Days today. Season one still holds up as a good game, but doesn't really make for an entertaining replay. I played through it again so I can continue season two on vita.

400 days works well with a nice tie in to season one. It's ridiculously short though and you don't get to know any of the characters all that well. I'm curious to see how it will tie in with season two though.

Finished South Park: The Stick of Truth on the weekend. Holy crap that is such an amazingly fun game! So fun I've done a rare thing for me and immediately started another playthru!

The gameplay isn't anything overly special however the humor and delivery are sensational! Progression is nice so you never feel OP but never feel too weak either (unless you're a thief in which case the backstab move seems nearly invincible). I loved all the little Easter eggs too like in the Police evidence locker where they have a riddler trophy or dialogue changes if you wear a bald cap and goatee when you visit the meth lab (Heiusenberg).

When I first started (PS3) there were a few bugs like jerky frame rates, the game getting stuck so I had to reload a checkpoint, etc. They were really annoying but were patched within a few days and didn't seem to occur again.

If you're a fan of South Park I say play the game. It's fucking great. If you're not a fan you might enjoy it but you'll need to like their sense of humor. Loads of episode Easter Eggs too however you don't need to have seen the TV show to enjoy them, they just add to things.

I wanna go home and play some more :(

Also finished Guacamelee again on the weekend. Played it on hard mode this time and am now going thru the DLC challenge levels. Glad to say that I still stand by the 10 out of 10 I gave it a year ago. The game is bloody perfect!
