Like / Dislike Buttons - should we have em?; To Like or not to like?

I've added some Like/Dislike functionality to the forums similar to what you see on Facebook. Main differences being that

1. You can dislike or like something (Facebook just has "like")
2. You can click the thing and see WHO has liked/disliked your stuff

I'm not sure about the dislike button. Should we have it in there? Nothing worse than a bunch of people just "thumbs downing" your stuff but I figure you all seem like a decent bunch and the transparency of being able to see who did it should make people be more careful... or not... what do you think?

Can everyone please dislike this post for me? I want to test what happens when a few people do the same thing and ignore me and dislike me. I'm number one.

Done and done. I've never modded a post before so that's the first - and probably only - time I'll do that.

I always was a fan of the liking button, but not a big fan of disliking.

Why did you moderate the post? You can just click the dislike button

Well, it tells you who is clicking the like/dislike buttons, which is a step up from the old GS blog comment like/dislike buttons.

Didn't they used toi have that a long time ago? I remember they had it at one stage then it became anonymous which was kinda disheartening and encouraged dickheads

I like the like/dislike buttons. It has no effect on your post though if you get too many dislikes? Just means that people don't agree with what you say?

I like them.
I'd like a staged like button though like on Urbanspoon. If you click it once you like/dislike, click twice really like/really dislike.

That shouldn't be too hard to implement. I'll give it a shot when I get back from visiting our QLD members... i.e. Nickosaurus-Rex... i.e. I'm going to Queensland for the weekend and trying to pass it off as a trip to visit a member... i.e. a business expense :D

Out of the mention of expense. What are the expenses of a forum like this? Happy to contribute some money for the running costs if needs be.
It'd be good if you could have refferral links to places we all shop at like avvi, ozgameshop, playasia and the like. At least that may generate a minimal income.

Looking at the footer, it says:

Presumably the ads on the site are covering the cost. So I guess that means Woolworths is paying, if everyone else is seeing the ads I get :)
