Before the great GameSpot change of 2013 we had a thread to monitor how many games we acquired and completed each month. The goal was to set ourselves a target and see if we could reach it by the end of the year but, as we soon found out, the side benefit was that we realised just how many damn games we bought but never finished!

If you'd like to join the challenge just post your starting count and your goal (e.g. I have 42 games on my shame pile and want to finish 10 of them by the end of the year). Then, at the end of each month, post how many your bought and completed and I'll update the spreadsheet.

NOTE : Completion is subjective. If you consider a game "done" when you've reached 1000/1000 achievement points then that's your target. If you consider it finished when you've finished the SP story that's also cool. Hell you might be like Gregory and consider the game finished when you've played it enough to feel that you've got your money's worth. That too is totally ok. The "shame pile" is a list of those games you've bought but not played enough yet to justify the purchase. The goal of this "challenge" is to help us keep track of what we do and share our experiences with everyone else.

If you'd like a helping hand tracking your games here's a little spreadsheet I made to help. Nothing special just an easy way to track your games. There are also a bunch of websites that perform the same function.

So... without further ado... here's the current scorecard. I'll update it as people post.

Thanks for keeping it alive. November didn't go too well, but I'll blame it on the new consoles.

I lost track of what I completed. I went off the rails when I only completed on game in October and that's it. I failed dismally. I'll write up my list next year and decide whether I add PS3 games or not.

I might start a shale pile for 2014 but it might be terribly long and I will probably never go back to a lot of the PS3 games on the list that I haven't even started... Oh god, there's just not enoug hours in the day...

I acquired Gunpoint in November and completed nothing. Yes I feel shame.

I was hoping now that uni's over I could end 2013 on a better note and finish a few games this month, however I bought Battlefield 4 and I haven't really been playing much else.

I can understand that. I have something similar with Forza 5 right now and, a while back, Battlefield BC2

Yeah early this year I wasn't playing as much I used to/should have been but late Q3 up until now I've been playing a decent amount of games and catching up on some stuff. Still though, there's heaps of games to play left on PS3...

Rayman wise, no. I gave up like 2 or 3 weeks after I got the game as I calculated it and it wasn't worth my time playing the game everyday for the next 3-4 months or whatever it was lmao. It was a great game but even I won't grind for that trophy. What about you? Have you gotten it yet?

I find the very idea of a shame pile interesting. I probably don't buy as many games as you guys, so that'd be part of it, but generally if I stop playing a game in favour of something else, it's almost always because the game itself is pretty meh. If it's meh (or outright bad) enough for me to stop playing it then I just leave it an never look back.

Just getting too busy to play something awesome is an entirely different ballpark though, that I can understand going back to.

That's kinda how it starts I guess. Coz I import so many games there's usually a time delay between impulse buy and game arrival. So I add it to my backlog... then I see something else shiny and new and purchase that... and so on and so on.

Meanwhile at Fox News Australia, aka Today Tonight:

"Gaming; the new highly addictive drug on the streets, terrorising little old ladies and corrupting our youth. These helpless middle aged men just can't stop buying games that they don't even want. Like street drugs, gaming is ever evolving, making it even more addictive, easier to attain, and harder to resist. These game-drug companies are now selling their games online and in digital form, so that addicts no longer have to leave their home to get their fix.

Gamedrug kingpin, Gabe Newell, of the Valve gamegang will be kicking off his annual christmas sales later this month on his gamedrug distribution network: "Steam". Experts expect that millions of game addicts will spend, on average anywhere between $50 and $50 on games, which they will then download directly to their computers to use. Experts warn that up to 30% of the games purchased by these addicts will never actually be used, and are purchased out of the psychological addiction to the vidya. Valve is expected to bring in $50m of revenue from this sale, which due to loopholes in international digital distrubution laws, is entirely legal. More at 7."

-Path of Exile
-Far Cry 3
-Dragons Dogma
-Fallout New Vegas DLC (I've played the base game, but still have the add on content)
