Just got my first job offer, video split operator for a feature film starting January. It serves as a training job so I don't get paid but that's pretty much par for the course when starting out anyway, in fact a lot of people usually have to do quite a bit more free work. Anyway, after that job I'll be fully trained and employable.

Pretty happy about it, I thought it would take a few months at least to get any kind of work so getting something right out of the gate is awesome.
Congrats. What is a video split operator?
Well you, uh, operate the video split.

Basically it's their job to make sure the monitors are always up and running for the director, DP, continuity supervisor and anyone else who needs them to use. The actual processes differ depending on the job. I did a bit of video split work on ym previous internship and that was quite a large project so it involved multiple monitors. Up to three monitors (for three cameras) were put up in a big tent for the DP and others, whereas the director and conti sueprvisor preferred to be nearer to the actors so we needed to put up a separate bunch of smaller monitors near the camera for them. Then when you're not doing that you either help with random other stuff within camera department or sit around on your arse.

I'd rather be at 128. That means the 3 of us have contributed just over 10% of the boards total posts each. With the three of our posts combined we have just over Chickans post count.

Spam away Bayloski. Never stopped me before :)

Smooth - I normally wouldn't get a Lego game day 1 but I wanted something to play on the Xbox one whilst on holidays and that's the only one not on my Christmas list :(

Nuttz - Grats man, that sounds bloody interesting
Chamboosy - I still don't get how you can get ink from another country. For a procedure like that I'd want it local so, if they fucked something up, I'd have easier recourse

Brings me to the Forza 5 issue that I have no regrets in not getting it despite some temptations to play with you guys, and Ninty pushing the most. Im pretty sure I would have been bored of the game even before you got bored of it. If I paid full price for it, ill be pissed.

Personally I think this is the best and worst Forza game yet. The engine is sensational, graphically looks amazing, best driving controls yet although I had to tweak the assists quite a bit to get it feeling "right"/less arcadey.

Whilst it's a technically great game it suffers from a few huge problems

1. Lack of track variety. They have 14 tracks and try to mix it up with alternate paths/directions or modes however, as you get further in the game, the alternate modes seem to disappear and everything is just X number of normal laps.
2. Every series comes down to the same thing. 1-10 races on a mixture of the 14 circuits with different car requirements.

This was really hammered home when I fired up the V8 Sueprcar series yesterday. It's great that they threw it in there but all they've done is put 2 V8 Supercar team cars in the game then made another random 9 race series that just happens to start with Bathurst. Remember Codemasters and how they had all the Aussie tracks and cars you could use? If you're going to throw in a series like that at least do it properly.

I feel they're losing what made Forza better thanGran Turismo for me; it used to be a better GAME. Now it seems to be falling into the trap of becoming something for the car enthusiast or achievement whore. One of those games (like FF13) where I look at someone with 100% and wonder what gave them the patience to plough on when most others would have stopped to get that 100%. Really feels like they're gimping the game design and just focusing on cars and game physics. Certainly essential to it being great but not what made it a great game for me.

No offence to anyone who gets the 100%s in those.. I just don't get it.

Any digital camera gurus amongst us?

I would like to know what is a good camera that supports RAW format and is a compact, not a SLR.

For stills right? Why do you want RAW?

Yeah for still photos.

RAW is better format for me to do my thing in my graphic design course ie Photoshop. JPEG loses quality and the filters dont apply as well.

Ah true, I was going to mention that RAW would only be worth it if you plan on grading the images, which is exactly what you're doing!

I'm not too familiar on stills-only cameras, but Canon's supposed to have some decent stuff at around the $200 mark. It's the s110 I believe.

Im a poor student now with a mortgage. I cant do the best anymore.

My budget is $200-$300.

Nuttz, I actually looked up Canon as an option and it was coming up as the best choices so far. The Powershot 110 was one that I noticed, just was wondering other than RAW format if the other features measure up.
