Yeah I caught onto the importance of satellites when council members started dropping like flies. They're priority no. 1 now. I've been using half cover a lot so I'll be more careful now.

What XCOM shares most with Civilization is that it doesn't take long to learn the rules but it takes forever to figure out the subtleties of the game.

You should rotate between 2 squads if you're playing ironman + classic.
I'm playing Ironman + Normal, but I'm bad enough to see your point. I've been aiming to eventually have two squads but it seems every time I send any squad on a mission at least half of them end up sprayed across a wall. I've started putting rookies up front to take the heat to protect my assets. I also had a nice little story grow out of this tactic: I had four specialty soldiers and one rookie on a mission and I recklessly marched the rookie into a spaceship just to draw the aliens out. She ended up surviving and these days she's the top dog alongside Johnny Support.

I feel like classic mode is definitely too frustratingly hard, whereas I find normal too easy. I wish there was a middle ground.

Same here. Felt they needed a half way point. Loved the game but I seem to recall a few missions later on that were hard in an annoying way. Seem to recall there were a bunch of alien spawns or something that changed the gameplay from strategic to reactive and I didn't feel it worked as well... probably because a lot of decent men died that day!

In memoriam of Johnny Support: You were good at giving support until some dickhead MEC marched into an EXALT ambush and you were killed by a rocket launcher.

Yesterday - Today R.I.P

Shadows of Mordor good?
Really good. I thought it would be short and the map was small, but then I found out it was only one map.
Once you get the ability to control other orcs it becomes even more fun.
Combat is actually good as you don't just wait till the counter icon comes up to strike like AC.

Played and finsihed the first episode.

The first episode is about 3-4 hours long. It borrows alot of Telltale's choice system, but I'd recommend getting a refresh on the end of the previous game otherwise some of the choices will be pretty one sided.

It mostly sets the scene and re-establishes the world and characters and ends when things begin to get interesting. The atmosphere is great and the size of the hub that you get to explore is surprising - it's as big as the Citadel in Mass Effect 1.

Ugh that XCOM base defense is a pain in the ass. Pretty lame that you're forced to beat it to continue your campaign. I don't have the soldiers at hand to win.

How much XCOM have you played? I haven't come across that mission yet, but then I've been really slow with the main story missions and spend more time building/researching and taking on the random missions.

But I've only played 14 hours worth, despite having a lot of fun with it I just wasn't devoting time to it. Actually thanks to you bringing it up lately I've gotten back into it and it's so great. Like everybody says with Civ having that 'just one more turn' mentality, XCOM has 'just one more scan of the globe'.

That base defense mission was added in the Enemy Within expansion due to 'demands from fans' lol. Base defense was a big part of the original XCOM, but wasnt a scripted story mission like it is.

Started DmC. Because I needed something to scratch a little itch ill I get a Wii-U + Bayonetta 2 later this year.

It's pretty solid so far. Some things with the reboot are improved from the Capcom predecessors (pacing, level design, platforming is actually decent, mission structure, no annoying lock on and just general presentation). The combat is surprisingly robust and fun. It's a weightier Devil May Cry which makes hits more satisfying, but there are some moves that just dont string as fluidly to create custom combinations due to the release animations/frames of some attacks. I'm not really feeling the affinity system as enemies limit combinations and force you to use an initiating move which limits creative use of the ability list. But it does add abit of a tactical consideration to some combat encounters. It's certainly easier than the previous games, but actually pushing for combos and keeping up the momentum is still tricky and satisfying even if you're not taking much damage or actually 'dying'. The boss fights are rather underwhelming so far, at least compared to the quality you'd expect from the franchise.

It's shaping up to be Ninja Theory's best game.

Yeah I've also played 14 hours, though I've accepted nearly every mission so far.
