I can only assume that it uses a particular part of the whale. Perhaps humpback scrotum leather is particularly supple?

I started playing Hack 'n' Slash by Double Fine. At first it looks like a simple top down adventure, except that some enemies and objects have what look like USB ports, which you can connect to and alter their behaviour. So far most the puzzles have been fairly simple, but they are getting a bit more complex (e.g. altering the idle patrol route program of a turtle so I could ride its back across a lake).

For the most part, it presents these puzzles through simple menus you could even navigate through with a controller. The only place I got stuck was trying to work out how to activate the sixth item in my inventory -- it wasn't immediately obvious to me that I had to assign it to one of the five action buttons (space and 1-4) and then activate it using that button.

So far I'm having quite a bit of fun with it. If you've got any experience in programming or game design, it should add to the enjoyment.

The Evil Within (PC) & still MH3U (Wii U) :P ..Evil Within character movement or animation is kinda choppy...not smooth. Lame black bars...otherwise not bad, not as heavy on gun action like RE4 - you gotta sneak & hide like Ashley Graham. Hide!!! :P

The Evil Within is R18+ ..lol ..had to spend a few minutes looking for it as it is not on the same shelf as other PC games..the JB I went to had a set area for R18+ games - PC/Xbone/X360/PS3/PS4 & movies.

Is XCOM: Enemy Within a game-changing expansion like Brave New World in Civ 5, or a standalone expansion?

It's like the Civ expansions. Definitely worth it if you enjoy the base game.

Okay thanks. I've only played for about 5 minutes so far. I'd never really looked at the game before and assumed it was Civilization with aliens. I'll play it properly tonight.

This game rules.

I had a perfect run for my first 5 missions and got cocky enough to accept a difficult one. Five minutes later a rookie bleeds out and dies next to a meld canister, my 2nd best soldier dashes blindly into an ambush and dies, my sniper is sniped to death, and it's just my support and best soldier remaining. My best soldier is flanked by two aliens and manages to kill both of them before the sniper blows him away. Then my support guy lands a 50/50 shot on the sniper and is left alone to mourn his pals. I should give him a medal or some shit.

I'm curious to know what shenanigans you got up to when naming your squad members.

Started on stealth Inc tonight. Not bad. Moving through it quite quickly. I know there's no way in hell I'll be getting s ranks on these levels so I'll just one and done them.

I don't name the squad members because I've got to keep an emotional distance before they die, which given how badly I'm playing could be at any given minute. I've already had 4 countries withdraw from XCOM. That support guy I mentioned above has been the sole survivor three times now, and he's the only soldier left from my first mission (not including the scripted first one). My favourite mission so far saw him and a heavy soldier reach an infested ship where they had to activate an airstrike beacon. I used the support guy to lure the aliens away from the heavy who activated the beacon. I thought the mission would end there but I had to return to the EVAC zone. This means the beacon activating soldier is trapped in the control room and pulverized the second she steps out of it while the support is left alone to dash blindly through a fishing village while an ever-increasing amount of aliens pursue him from the front and back. They actually caught up to him twice, completely surrounding him, but they must have spent all their movement because they didn't attack. The guy reached the EVAC and was out of commission for about 19 days. His next mission would see him and a bunch of rookies (my roster has no depth) get destroyed by EXALT. He being the support up the back, he escaped again. His previous mission was a mission of redemption because he saved my best soldier from imminent death. It was also my first mission in ages where nobody died.

I like how while playing this game your individual experience has these little stories of its own (like Civilization). It's unfortunate that I really suck at the game. I've failed a few too many important missions.

Cool that you're having fun with it, it's a really good game. I have the tendency to save before each mission and load when things don't go quite my way. The thing is though that I had managed to level up 3 guys to the highest and second highest ranks and I don't want to lose them. I was in a mission in a petrol station and my whole team was obliterated by a bunch of the heavy aliens with the shotguns in a matter of minutes. Tried it several times and couldn't win so I stopped playing. I might just have to bite the bullet when I go back to it and start playing the game properly.

I'm playing with Ironman turned on so I only get one shot at any mission. It raises the stakes a lot when your best soldiers' lives are on the line.

A few tips that help keep soldiers alive:

Always use full cover, never go out in the open (unless it's a crysalid-only mission) and avoid using half cover. Basically only use half cover if you have no other option, it's usually better to stay in full cover a bit further back than run forward into half cover.

Never sprint into fog. The only time you should ever sprint is when you're retreating, and even then it's usually better not to. If you only use your first movement phase then you always have the option to retreat or go into overwatch when you run into an unexpected sticky situation.

Deploying satellites reduces the panic of a country to the minimum, so always try to deploy your satellites just before the end of the month so you don't lose support. You also want to be constantly making satellites and the buildings that let you use them.2

That infested ship mission was hell. It was long and had non stop respawning baddies. I lost a high ranked assault unit and support unit on that one mission.

You should rotate between 2 squads if you're playing ironman + classic. I should replay the game again. Heard good things about this Long War mod that changes and adds lots of stuff.
