Played a bit more of Far Cry 3 last night. I think I'm starting to enjoy it but I'm just not entirely sure. The dudebro aspect is quite annoying at times. I'm finding hunting a little bit confusing too - but maybe that's because I haven't gotten enough slots to have weapons and stuff. For those that have completed it, can you tell me whether it's worthwhile just nutting out the story missions and then doing side stuff? Usually when I'm in an open world game I find that I start a few missions, then level myself up by doing side stuff (hunting, etc) and then going back to the story missions later on. Far Cry 3 doesn't seem to like you doing that. I had a look at how much I have left of Sleeping Dogs and there's only a couple more missions so I may go back and finish that. Anyone who's finished that, can you tell me whether the end is worth it? |

I'd suggest doing what feels fun in Far Cry 3. If you enjoy exploration, set a waypoint on a radio tower and head in that general direction. If you like stealth, try taking out an outpost undetected. If you find an outpost with a caged animal inside, try shooting off the door to its cage and watch what happens. If you like hunting animals in the game, try some of the hunting side quests you get when you liberate some outposts. If anything starts to feel like a grind, try some other objective. There are some interesting missions in the main quest chain (e.g. those involving some hallucination), so I wouldn't ignore them. But I also wouldn't focus on them and exclude everything else. |

Wise words from James there. If you don't enjoy the side stuff then the amount will seem like a chore. An easy chore, granted, but a chore nonetheless. |

Cool. I enjoy the side stuff, but it felt like I'd needed to progress further in the story to progress further with equipment to make my progress with my side stuff happen. Does that make sense? |

It's been a while since I played, but from memory there were a few places where certain parts of the upgrade tree were locked off until you complete certain missions, but those upgrades will say why they are locked. But in general you'll get experience doing pretty much anything, and experience levels are what drives the upgrade process. |

I don't know if the end of Sleeping Dogs' story is ' worth it', but I had a heap of fun with that game and I think it's totally worth playing and finishing. But if you didn't like it, then I don't think the end of the story will necessarily change your mind. I dunno, give it a shot. And just play Far Cry 3 how you like, if you start running out of things to do our buy, just do a couple of story missions. They give you a bunch of xp and money and unlock all sorts of stuff. The missions are generally good anyway. |

I didn't mind Sleeping Dogs, it's just that I found it very mediocre to be in the world at times. I've probably got about five more hours of gameplay in it so I'll see how I go if I feel like finishing it off. |

Sounds to me like you didn't spend enough time fly kicking people. My favourite place to do that was the hospital. Kicking nurses and doctors over desks and through windows was hella fun. |

How does Rayman Legends on PS4/Xbone handle the Murfy levels where you need to swipe on the Wii U gamepad? I have mixed feelings about the Wii U handling of those levels. I like the diversity of the levels and how it mixes things up a bit but on the flipside I find it a little more challenging than the standard Rayman levels, not challenging in that its hard to complete but more so missing the opportunities to find and rescue the blue little dudes. |

You run thru the levels yourself and hit X to make Murphy auto perform moves. Quite enjoyable but doesn't feel as natural or fun as the WiiU

That sucks. Im happy that the game made its way to other platforms but clearly it was always intended for the Wii U. When you played the game, did you look at the touchpad while you played those levels or the TV? Im guessing its natural to use the touchpad because you want to look at where you swipe but im thinking if I had the skill it would make more sense only using it as a touch panel only interface and looking at the TV. It almost feels like I am missing out by restricting myself to the touchpad, I mean it does an admirable job but its not as vibrant or large in display obviously as the TV. |

When playing by myself I looked at the touchpad for those levels. Made more sense. |

You know what massively popular series utterly exceeded all its previous incarnations and was the 2nd best game of the last generation after Dark Souls? Grand Theft Auto 5. Even though it's fun as heck and funny as balls, its aesthetic is the most engrossing thing about it. It's existential and thrillingly nihilistic. You can feel the hollowness of Los Santos everywhere. You can feel the desperation and loneliness behind the glitz and glamour. It tacitly suggests that humans are pretty pathetic creatures. It's pretty remarkable. I think I'll play it again soon.

I haven't played GTA5, but that sounds like the GTA series as a whole to me. It's part of the reason I rank it so highly as a series (number 1). It's not all about murdering people, stealing shit and causing general havoc, it's so much more than that. But maybe only in the later games? Not sure. Regardless, your description makes me extra itchy to play 5, it always looked amazing to me. I'm still hanging out for the PC release, I can't wait. |

Yeah the series has always had a cynical streak, but I think the geography and characters really amplify it in GTA5. It's not so much the story (though it's pretty good) but the world that I love. Maybe I exaggerated it as being the 2nd best game. In terms of gameplay it's probably not, but I can't think of anything else except DS that left a greater impression. |
