VIDEO GAME TROPE Put in some fast and very rare Exotic Sports Cars, Robust SUVs, Heavy Trucks, Vintage Muscle Cars, Maybe even a Solid Jeep, light Motorcycles and put in some generic no-good family sedans, wagons and hatchbacks to make the world seem convincing. BUT THE FASTEST, MOST DURABLE AND WELL HANDLED VEHICLE IS THE RESKINNED SEDAN THAT IS THE POLICE CAR. |

Struggling to understand how the Rayman Legends developers, whose relentlessly fine-tuned talents and vision otherwise ooze out of every facet of the game, decided in favour of something as dreadfully ill-conceived as this 8-bit level bullshit. Really, really stupid. If I'd been playing with the lights off it'd probably have given me a migraine. Orchestral Chaos seems partiularly epilepsy-inducing.

I've finished everything except some of the Origins levels and would probably lean towards Origins being the better game. I think Red Panda was dead-on about Legends lacking variety by comparison, something which really shows in 20,000 Lums, where nearly every level had the same underwater spy theme. Oh and I could be remembering RayOrigins incorrectly but I thought it used its speed segments in moderation and the segments stood out because of this. Legends has speed segments in levels, bonus speed levels, musical speed levels, speed challenges...just slow down some. Edited by Moo, Sep 5 2014, 02:24 AM.

I liked the 8 bit levels I felt Rayman Legends had a better framework but Rayman Origins had the better levels/gameplay.

I never got around to finishing Half Life 2, so I've been chipping away at the Android version. It runs surprisingly well and looks fantastic on the Shield. I noticed Portal is available and Bioshock for iOS has popped up too. I hope this trend continues. While I probably won't bother with PC games I've already played, I wouldn't mind playing some of the older ones I missed. |

I started Dead Rising 3 again last night. I don't know why I keep playing these things as, generally, I don't really enjoy them. Maybe it's just that I know someone spent quite a bit of cash getting the launch copy for my Birthday so I feel I should give it a shot. Enjoying it more solo than coop. The lack of any sort of balancing online made for a pretty crappy starting experience. |

I didn't mind the Granny one, which mostly did cool stuff with perception instead of bombarding you with static and blur. |

I agree. I look at the 8-bit levels like the second season of Flight of the Conchords. They had a great idea the first time round, but some elements they tried to replicate but failed at what made the original so good. The chest chase sequences in Origins are some of my favourite levels. What infuriates me is that the 8-bit levels should have been just more music levels but a little bit more difficult. One of the marketing things for Legends was the music levels - which are sublime and perfect and one of the reasons the game is a must play in my eyes. However, there weren't enough of them. They spent too much time developing the stupid 8-bit levels and having the online component which is just appalling in my eyes. It's enjoyable enough at times, but to have the trophies tied to grinding online levels is terrible. I'm not sure if the leaderboards are still having the issues they were ten months ago where you would do a whole weeks worth of challenges and the results weren't recorded so you never got your cups. Wasted time. |

Flight of the Conchords season two couldn't match the original because they had to write new songs, while season one had songs they'd been using in their act for years (that was the impression I got anyway). So in season two I think the dialogue scenes are still really good but the songs are lacking. I liked the online component though. They've definitely fixed the trophy issue however leaderboards are not permanent (which doesn't bother me because it makes more people participate). |

That's exactly what I'm getting at. Using that comparison with Conchords/Rayman, Rayman had the ground work for good levels but the more intense levels - the chest chase ones - were replaced with vague imitations which are the dodgy 8-bit ones. They're not all bad, but they're far from what I expect from Rayman. The online component was good for sure, but as someone who was going for the platinum it just bothered me that they tied trophies to the game in that way. It made the game tedious and annoying. Yes, nobody was forcing me to platinum it, but I love the game, and I wanted to. It's also what has stopped me from playing it on PS4 and Vita because of those trophies. |

I thought the music levels were the game's complement to the chest levels while the 8-bit editions complement Land of the Livid Dead as the game's post-content. But whereas LotLD was a fiendishly difficult new level, the 8-bit world was just levels from earlier in the game that had been adapted to trigger epilepsy. I seriously reckon someone had an epileptic fit playing them. |

Have you played any in the series before? I'm a big fan of Harvest Moon, but wasn't too fond of the original Rune Factory for DS. Some of the later games look pretty good, so I'm thinking of trying one out. |
