I agree. Once you get the hang of it, you should really like it. I found it a great game and real wonder to play as well. Story through action rather than dictation. It's great. And bloody heartbreaking as well.

Put in an hour or so last night and am enjoying it much more now. James' trick of keeping big brother on the left was a great one!

I'm finding they don't spend a lot of time on one idea though. No sooner have they introduced a concept and run you thru the obligatory 2-3 easy puzzles to teach you use than you're moving on to the next. Hope it all comes together later or it's going to be an exceptionally easy game :)

Quite enjoyed the bit where the brothers had a rope tied together and, whilst I enjoyed bits like helping suicide man bury his wife and kid or playing a song for flying amchine man, I'm still not finding I connect with it overly well. I think it's because the speech is over-exaggerated in a Sims kind of way. Maybe it's more that they have ridiulously dangerous scenes like falling down a waterfall then just pick themselves up and immediately carry on same as before.

I dunno. Who cares? It's fun and I'm enjoying it. That's all that matters.

That Black Betty level in Rayman Legends is awesome. I also think it's ridiculous that it has 40+ Origins levels available when Origins must have like 60 levels total. The daily/weekly challenges are cool too (and I'm oddly allowed to take part in them despite not having Live Gold; I know it's just leaderboards but most games are stingy and don't let non-Gold people take part in leaderboards).

Rayman used to be a middling platformer in my opinion but now it's on level with Mario and Donkey Kong, and aesthetically it's a league ahead of both of them (its sense of whimsy is ridonk). Its trajectory in quality is the opposite of Sonic's*.

*Though not completely, because old Rayman was still good while new Sonic is shit, and also because new Rayman is excellent and old Sonic is absurdly overrated in my opinion.

Yeah Sonic just flat out controls terribly. It is not fun to play any of those games, Sonic is just not fun to control. In my opinion anyway.

Like you go real fast and that's cool but something is bound to stop you in your tracks where the game slows to a crawl and you realise that the jumping and general platforming sucks.

Pfft... old Sonic is awesome and most of the new ones are fine. The most recent one I've played, Sonic Lost World, is a fantastic game that combines platforming with the action-adventure elements really well.

To be honest I don't think I've played a Sonic game since Sonic 3. But I agree with Twisted's points, and would also add that if Sonic moves at such high speed he should either appear further to the left of screen or our perspective should be further away from him so that it's possible to avoid obstacles. Playing Super Mario Bros alongside Sonic 1 shows how inadequate the latter is.

The crystal bonus levels are fun though and Sonic's music was way better than Mario's.

That was my big issue with the recent sidescroller; for a game that encouraged sspeed and continual runs it sure kept the camera close and stopped you running a lot!

I dont really have any nostalgic affiliations with Sonic compared to mj. But Sonic: Generations was a surprisingly fantastic game.

It's not as good as Rayman: Oranges. I like the structure of Legends more, but the core level design, balance of challenge and the variety in Oranges was abit better. I'd probably put Rayman: Legends and Sonic: Generations neck and neck with each other.

For platformers, I'm in the Super Meat Boy master race camp. Yeah kid. Like totally shitting all over Chickan's and Twisted's times.

Do the daily challenges where you need to get as far as you can loop at some point? Because some people manage to get 30km+ in the leaderboards.

A rayman discussion not started by me? Madness.

The Daily challenges are procedurally generated so they can keep going and going and going. Furthest I ever got was 5km.

I never understood the love for sonic. As mentioned, he goes really fast which is fine, but the levels don't accommodate speed running - which rayman origins does. The level design with origins is heavenly. Sonic is too stop start for my liking. I bet Ancel would make a great sonic game.

Much like Rayman, not all the Sonic games are made for you to hold the stick forward and just run. Fair enough if you don't enjoy the action/adventure or puzzle sections of the games, but they're present in some and you're going to start-stop. If you don't like that, there's still plenty of Sonic games that you can run full pelt with little concern (recent ones too!):

I seem to recall Sonic 1 had quite a bit of continuous running and there were levels of Sonic 2 that seemed built around speed runs. Can't remember 3 and the Dreamcast one I played was a completely different kind of game so isn't really comparable. I really enjoyed that actually. Might have to add it to the arcade machine :)

I get what you're saying. Rayman evolved into the speed runner that it is now - and it's better for it. Without Sonic, you wouldn't have Rayman Origins or Rayman Legends. Simple as that.

With that out of the way, Sonic's levels have always been the achilles heel of the series. There are cheap deaths and cheap moments in it. I can understand why because the levels were designed to be unique, but also by falling to the pressure of Alex the Kidd and Super Mario Bros. Maybe it's because I was a Nintendo fan through and through and never liked Sonic as a kid, but it's just never been a series I've enjoyed sadly.

Can somebody explain the popularity of this Five Nights At Freddy's game? All it is to me is "Shitty mid 90's FMV game: 2014 edition". It's fuckin' Night Trap without the entertaining bad acting.
