I've been playing more of Spacebase DF-9, seeing what kind of things you can do later stages of the game, rather than just restarting.

I had previously thought the game mechanics for exploring derelict bases was broken, but it turns out I wasn't doing it right. I would send a security unit in, who would either get shot, or explore the base and then stand idle as the base went dark again and he'd be stuck. So I ended up giving up on exploration and just send builders in to vaporise a few walls to vent the atmosphere to space, and then vaporise the rest of the derelict base for matter.

I've since worked out how to explore more effectively. First of all, it helps to click on the base multiple times with the beacon tool. This asks multiple security units to explore: they'll stop at the airlock until the number requested are present, so if there are hostiles you'll have the numbers. Secondly, as the security units explore the base, you need to click on the floor of each room and choose "claim" in the info panel on the left. This gets rid of the red flag, and stops it from going dark after exploration is finished.

While I still lose a few security units to raiders/monsters doing it this way, I also occasionally find new crew members on the derelicts. And even less frequently, I find a blueprint that opens new research options:

Before I found my first blueprint, I thought I had exhausted the tech tree and didn't need scientists any more. Now I'm well on my way to developing new tablet computers for my technicians that won't let them play video games, which should make them more efficient.

Plague Inc: Evolved

It's an early access game. So it must be unfun and terrible.
The single player game has been around for a while. There are a few additions to this version but the main reason it's "early access" is because of the multiplayer components... which I don't really care about anyway!

They also added case scenarios to this one so you can try and replicate things like the black plague

And just for your comment...

I was trolling.

Well, more like mirroring gamer's opinions about Early Access, which have derived from the cherry-picking from twats like Totalbiscuit and Jim Sterling that tell the whiny vocal minority what they want to hear.

Early Access games can offer alot of enjoyment. It can do wonders to game development if done right.

Umm ok LA Noire, not exactly what I was expecting. Granted I only played it for 20 minutes but it best to get much better or its on the chopping block.

LA Noire wasn't that great. It shouldn't have been an open world game, imo.

I thought the open world was fine, it works as a cop roaming the city, it made sense. Most importantly it didn't make the game worse in any way did it?

I just felt it was pointless. You couldn't do anything in it at all. It was just a static, non interact-able map used for uneventful A to B driving. The only thing that ever happened were the scripted car chases, but that was it.

I was kind of expecting a GTA/RDR type game, with a touch of Mafia series.

My first impressions of it that it looks pretty woeful graphic wise and I know its 2011 game now but compared to Batman Arkham City which is the same year, im comparing the two. Its obviously another console port but so was Batman.

I can look past the graphics anyway but as an intro goes it hasnt really grasped me yet, but I havent really played that much of it yet, its a good thing that I am pretty patient with games and will give them a decent crack at them before I decide to complete or shelve it. My completion rate for games is pretty high as well, I feel as though I like to get my moneys worth out of them.

I dunno man, comparing it to those games might not do you any favours. It's kind of it's own thing. It's definitely less action-y, and the story doesn't really kick in until a bit later in the game I think. But I liked the way it was toned down. It made the times you do get into combat more meaningful.

As for the open world, I honestly have no problem with story-driven games not having a whole lot of distractions on the side. It would be nice to fill the open world out. But it wasn't the main draw of the game. The crime solving and interrogation was. It set itself apart from other sorts of games and that was enough for me. I just don't mind when games have an open world just as a backdrop. It gives a good sense of place and adds a little something extra to the mission variety.

I take back what I said about the graphics, it is fine.

Im kind of understanding the game a little more now and what its trying to achieve, could be cool.

I'm with hairy tits overymum. The open world part just felt like collectible filler and made the between times kinda pointless (assuming you dont dif collectibles).

imo they should have fleshed it out a bit more like gta, red dead, etc and made it a draw. have penalties for driving like a dickhead, have buildings you could actually enter and do things like watch an old movie in the thwatre or something.

probably more a case of built up expectations based on other titles but still. there was room for it to be fun to explore but what they gave was nothing

I gave up on it after an hour. Which is really disappointing because I was looking forward to it. I think the whole debacle regarding the working situation of the game turned me off it. Which is interesting as well because I'm not turned off playing something like GTAV which has a bad reputation for having a difficult working situation as well.
