I hated the things that Chase you in ME3s space exploration map.
Totally forgot about that, but yes, this.

I guess I just found the mako driving segments in ME1 to be so much less polished than the rest of the game. Having a huge open world (or worlds, in this case) is pretty meaningless if there is nothing to do, or they feel like they've been cut-n-pasted.

For most of the worlds you can visit, the only differences are some different textures for the rocks, a new sky box, perhaps some fog effects. The exact terain might be arranged differently, but it doesn't really make much of a difference. There will be a crashed probe, a few mineral deposits, a collection quest item and probably a base on each world. The interior of the base will use one of ~ 4 different maps with the crates stacked slightly differently inside.

I'll grant that there are a few non-main quest worlds that have one or two unique features. I did finally find the world with the prothean ruin which gives you the vision. That was pretty cool, but there are so few examples like that. I only found two worlds with animals on too: one with space cows that steal your money, and the other with space monkeys (which was also the world with the prothean ruin).

I understand that most of the worlds are supposed to be barren or uncolonised, but they could have done some things to spice them up a bit. If the world is described as a garden world, why not include some plants (instead of just having grass textured rocks)? If the world is meant to have a level 1 heat hazard, how about some exposed lava flows? How about a bit of water?

I think the locations where the story events take place in ME2 and especially ME3 make up for the silly overworld minigame.

But I cant fault how well ME1 made use of the Citadel. It seemed so seamless going from place to place.

Yeah, it was annoying how they replaced the magnificent Citadel of the first game with a stupidly drab shopping mall in the second. Still, I guess ME2 made up for it by featuring many more waist high walls than ME1 could ever have dreamed of!

I've got some PSN money left over, so help me pick a game! It's between Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Okami (might also grab Vagrant Story for $8). Are any of these games still worth playing? How well do you think Resi 4 might have held up? Are the controls a nightmare like in the earlier RE games? And what about MGS3? I've heard it's possibly the best MGS, but also that it's uncommonly hard. I'm not sure I want a huge challenge so soon after playing Demon's Souls.

The controls in RE4 are much better than the previous games, it kind of started the whole over-the-shoulder control scheme we see in games like Dead Space and The Last of Us. It still has some of the quirks from the earlier games like having to remain still while aiming and no strafing, but I saw that more as intentional design to heighten the tension than bad controls.

MGS3 is probably my favourite of the series, I only had trouble on a couple of the boss fights and I was playing on one of the harder difficulties so I wouldn't call it particularly difficult.

I haven't played Okami but I've heard good things about it.

Haven't played Resi Evil 4 but I enjoyed MGS3. That said Okami's a much better game. Zelda-ish

I had a lot of fun with Okami on the PS2. It's also quite a long game: I remember playing through to the Orochimaru boss fight and thought the story had come to a close. That was only about a third of the way through though.

I picked up the PS3 version when it was on sale, but haven't got around to playing it yet.

I think ME1 was great game at the time but it didn't hold up well compared to other games. Probably like many games earlier in the gen cycle, the developers didn't know how to push the hardware (we saw how much ME2 improved in those areas you mentioned james which I agree with).

Okami is great fun. Really nice looking game. Long - about sixty hours worth of play.

I loved Okami on Wii. Had forgotten about that one, actually. I enjoyed it much more than Mario Galaxy at the time.

Went through it in ME as a fem Shepard and now in Beyond 2 Souls, why am I trying to make these men want to fuck me? ^o)

It still feels a little unusual with Beyond 2 Souls being a woman as the main character.

Went out of my way to cook my potential man Asian Beef dinner and cleaned the apartment and wore my sexy clothes and still didnt get laid.

Thanks for the lowdown on the games I asked about. I'll probably have to get all 3. They're all around $20, so it won't break the bank. It's just that I've realised I probably don't have time to play such epically long games at the moment, so now I'm thinking either Vanquish or Hotline Miami! Something quick and purifying, you know? I just can't decide whether to get Hotline on PC or PS3. Does the PS3 version control well? I'm worried I'll struggle without a mouse.

Why would you struggle with a mouse? I'd be worried about the game being much harder without one.

I'm worried that I'll struggle WITHOUT one. It seems like a mouse game, but I'd prefer to get it on PS3 since that version is meant to contain a couple of extra levels, and I already have the necessary funds in my PSN account.
