Yay for game, boo for release date.

I’m playing Divinity Original Sin and the combat is basically fantasy XCOM. Lotta fun.

It's kinda scary that I'll be 30 when it comes out, and that's making the dubious assumption that it won't be delayed.

Playing The Wolf Among Us. Really enjoying the atmosphere and the mystery is intriguing, but it annoys me how the game basically plays itself, without any possibility of failure on my part. I can miss multiple QTEs in a row and still win all the fights. It mightn't matter if there were some puzzles or if I had to connect the clues myself, but these things are pretty much automatic too. I don't expect a massive challenge from a Telltale game, but this is just a bit too on rails.

It also feels really short. The second episode took me under an hour.

For that reason I can't imagine I'll ever buy an episodic game again before the complete edition's out. It's so much better to experience at once instead of parcelled out in pieces over a year like a 19th century novel.

I always wait for the whole series to go 75% on sale. It always happens.

Later on you get to choose paths, like which area you would like to investigate first and it effects the storyline.

I agree with what you say but and it is an older telltale game, but the story alone makes up for it.

Finished TWAU. It was way too short. I was expecting around 10 hours like TWD s1, but barely got 5. As a result, the plot felt truncated and wasn't epic or memorable enough. It's also a shame that the player doesn't really do any investigating at all. It's absolutely impossible to name the killer without guessing based on the info the game provides.

So it's a pleasant experience, but also a slightly disappointing one. There's just not enough meat on the bones. Life is Strange blows it out of the water in most respects.

I felt like giving The Vanishing of Ethan Carter another chance so I played through the Redux version this afternoon (wasn't actually expecting to finish it so quickly). I think I must agree with your assessment, Moo, of it being disappointing with the pay off being pretty weak, though I don't hate it quite as much as you seemed to actually the more I stew on it the less I like it. It does suck...

I think its the wrong way to do a twist, because it basically chucks the supernatural family murder mystery that it establishes throughout the game right out the window and says

with no satisfying resolution for our curiosity. I think it would be best to write the game in a way that actually ties that stuff up and then throw us for a loop in a way that doesn't invalidate all of it.

Still, I retain my opinion that its one of the prettier games I've played and I can't be too mad because I'm sufficiently simple in the head to just be able to enjoy wandering around a really good looking virtual world. I kept thinking about how blown away I'd have been if you showed me this game as a kid. The music also reminded me Oblivion which gave me fuzzies.

Yeah it looks amazing for a game that also runs well on my laptop.

I agree with your points.

Also the puzzles were obtuse.

Yeah I was really happy with how well it ran on my machine, too.

I didn't find the puzzles as bad this time around, but they did involve a fair bit of walking around until you find stuff and just pure trial and error with some of the chronology stuff, rather than it being logical stuff that you could get first time if you thought about it the right way.

Well since the reason I played Ethan Carter was because I'm taking an intermission break from DA:I (still enjoying it btw), I guess I'll give Spec Ops The Line another try.

I've been meaning to get Ethan Carter. It looks interesting. Not worth it? I've also had my eye on Firewatch. Has anyone played that?

Currently playing TFTBorderlands. I'm really enjoying it but again wish there was more gameplay. It's annoying how these Telltale games don't allow you to even move around on your own in most scenes. I just feel like I'm watching minimally-interactive cut scenes most of the time. It does help that this one is charming and well written though.

Yeah I honestly think Ethan Carter isn't worth it, unfortunately. The ending genuinely sucks and basically ruins it. I've not played Firewatch but its on my wishlist, it does look cool.

I've more or less lost interest in Telltale games after the three I've played (Walking Dead 1&2, TWAU) but its been long enough that I could probably play one of the more well written ones and enjoy it enough (Borderlands seems to be that from what I've heard). I would say that they're not really games, though, at least now. The first Walking Dead had some actual proper point&click stuff in it, it was pretty streamlined but it was there. 2 was more of a string of QTEs. I can only assume they've gone that way for cynical reasons, the games would be easier to make that way and probably open it up to the widest audience possible.

Firewatch is pretty good. A lot of people were disappointed with the ending but those people are idiots.
