I'm making progress through the world c. Weirdly, I'm actually finding it easier than the earlier ones... Nothing stumps me for very long anymore.
Wow, talk about jinxing myself. Since I wrote that, every new puzzle has fried my brain to the point that I'm not really enjoying it anymore. The puzzles seem more complex but somehow less clever and not particularly satisfying to solve. I can't tell if I'm just burned out or they've run out of interesting ideas towards the end. Probably both. There are some genuinely terrible puzzles in the third world. Like the one called Labyrinth, which is barely a puzzle at all, but more of an exercise in frustration as I try to time my runs perfectly to avoid the fucking bombs. I must have died like 25 times. I almost started to hate the entire game a little bit. I just wanna finish the damn thing now so I can see where the story ends up.

I bought Lone Survivor. People describe it as a 2d Silent Hill, which sounds kinda exciting to me, despite the retro graphics and indie vibe. I've missed that type of horror. How come no one here likes Silent Hill? The first two are still among the greatest games ever made.

I do remember some puzzles in the game being difficult because they were big rather than clever. Road to Gehenna will feel like a return to form.

OK, I was being too harsh. I guess I was having a bad talos night. Nothing worked. Today is much better. I blew through the entirety of C4 in less than half and hour and it was pretty damn satisfying. I'm back on track. I do still hate the long-ass puzzles that require a lot of tedious, repetitive set up and the mine gauntlet ones though. I hope the DLC doesn't rely on those too much.

I did the main ending yesterday. Very cool game, despite a few questionably designed puzzles and the somewhat excessive complexity of the last few sigils. I loved the narrative and wish there was more of it. I wanted to read more chatlogs and blogs instead of those dry mythological excerpts, which I mostly just skimmed over. I kinda expected some kind of elaboration on the extinction event the files kept referring to, so was a bit disappointed that it was never mentioned or expanded upon in the end. I had also hoped the thought-provoking discussions with the MLA would lead to a slightly more cathartic payoff. The ending we got concluded everything in a pretty satisfying way though. I'm gonna take a break before starting the DLC. Doubt I'll ever go back for all the stars.

I wanted to download Inside, but it's $30!!! WTF? Isn't it a 2-year-old side-scrolling indie game? Those should never be that expensive even while brand new. Disappointing. I really wanted to try it.

Oh well, I guess it's either Soma or Observer next up.

It goes on sale fairly often. I think I got it for $15. It’s a short game, but worth it if you liked Limbo.

Well, the undiscounted price for Inside on Steam is US$20, which is approximately AU$25. So it is a bit more expensive on PS4, but not enormously so. I picked it up during one of the sales, so perhaps wait until it is on sale again?

Yeah, I'll definitely wait for the sale. I'm not desperate to play it or anything. It just surprised me since I expected it to cost no more than $15-20 considering it's a short indie game released 2 years ago. $30 sounds far too much. That's like $10 for each hour of gameplay! No thank you.

BTW, one of the messengers in my game of Talos was called jhenstridge. I realise now it's because you got the messenger ending and are the only person on my friends list to have played Talos, but it took me aback initially. It was weird asking the robot version of you for hints haha

While waiting for Talos and a few others to finish downloading (which is a slow, slow process in my room), I decided to play Hellblade. The gameplay is a little shallow, but it's a pretty great game regardless. The presentation and atmosphere are fantastic, and the way it completely immerses you in a psychotic's head space makes the whole game feel essentially like a sustained insanity effect. It's uniquely powerful. Even the gameplay is OK. The combat is way too easy and simplistic, but does feel satisfyingly hefty and is responsive and fast enough to be enjoyable when it comes up. The puzzles are also acceptable, though it's a shame there's only one type of perception-based puzzle, similar to the Riddler challenges in Batman, repeated ad nauseum throughout the game. Still, there are a few clever variations, such as the time travel level that uses an almost identical mechanic to Titanfall 2 but without the combat.

Anyway, it's really good! If it's still on sale on psn, I very much recommend it.
I also played Hellblade, well I started it over a month ago and progressed a fair bit into the game but put it down after awhile. Im thinking of getting back into it and completing it.

I was rather excited about the game but somehow felt a little disappointed overall with the experience. The psychosis component got rather old real quick, and I felt the game became rather repetitive after awhile, it was literally solve the same sort of puzzles over and over again with some random combat sequences thrown into the mix. I do enjoy the boss battles though, seemed to make the combat a little more varied.

I found it haunting and visually spectacular, which made it easy to forgive the less inspired bits. I suppose it is quite repetitive, though it was short enough that I never got bored and it did introduce some clever twists to the formula later on, like the level where you have to sneak through the pitch darkness while being hounded by some undefinable mind monsters. I also liked how everything in the game is a manifestation of her psychosis. Even the rune puzzles represent a symptom in which a psychotic sees elaborate environmental patterns where there probably aren't any.

Plus the combat becomes really fun (though much too easy) if you bother to learn the mechanics that the game never bothers to tell you about. I only found out I could block and parry about a third through the game....

I dunno, I think it's pretty excellent. Much more impressive than I expected.

I played the opening to Bioshock a few weeks ago and realized I was very forgiving of how shitty the gameplay is. The scene where you enter Rapture still stands up though.

I don't get what you're doing with Deadly Premonition. It deserves a spot. I wouldn't mind playing it again to spot all the Twin Peaks theft.

DP has a spot. I just don't know how to compare or rank it against the others. It's pretty much in a league of its own, so it seems appropriate to leave it unranked.

I don't think Bioshock's gameplay is shit, but it's definitely more functional than it is outstanding. It became more of a problem in Infinite, where the setting wasn't quite as interesting and the incessant shooting really seemed to overpower everything else.

I forgot to include Condemned. Such a brutal, grimy game. Has anyone played it? Beating hobos to death with a plank of wood never felt so outrageously good. I wish I could replay that.

I just completed the game, turns out I was only about 20 minutes away from completion.

Perhaps it was the gap in between sessions but I was completely not moved whatsoever with the story itself, in fact I recall wanting to skip through the cutscenes when I first started the game.

It was suppose to be the strong point of the game and I just wasnt feeling it at all, I actually enjoyed Ninja Theory's previous games a whole lot more like Enslaved and Heavenly Sword pretty much in every aspect.

Really wanted to enjoy the game but just couldnt get into it as I had hoped.
