Amnesia sounds good to me. Sounds terrifying. I don't even mind sanity effects in Lovecraftian games. They suit the cosmic horror mood and are faithful to the fiction. I liked the ones in Call of Cthulhu and those seem pretty similar to Amnesia's.

Soma downloading. Another awesome bargain I saw on psn was Metro Redux. It's like $12 and you get two lengthy, excellent games.

I grabbed that, I haven't played it yet though. I read a comment saying it's worth playing with Russian v/o and English subtitles for authenticity. Might be interesting.

Was playing some Civ 5 with my mate last night, we used an Earth map. I went Korea and of course got sandwiched between Genghis Khan and Oda Nobunaga. The Mong(r)ols waged war against me unprovoked, I wiped out everything he attacked me with then managed to declare peace (of course he refused to pay any sort of reparations). Then immediately after that Japan declares war on me, but I just blockaded the shit out of them with a bunch of triremes cutting down anything trying to get to me. We declare peace shortly after. Then I decide to send my spy to one of the Mongol cities to discover that Ghengy-poo is plotting to attack me again, so I pump out a bunch of guys and line my border with him, for him to get upset that I've got too much of a military presence near him, kek. Now I'm just pointing sharp sticks at both of them to, trying to be diplomatic and doing my best to race towards a science victory, which will probably fail. All the war put me too far behind and I'm still getting trolled by barbarians well into the 1800s because all of China and Siberia above me is far too vast to conquer.

Umm, that's like, Eurocentric and very problematic.

For real though the Earth map is lopsided because the North American civs have plenty of room to expand while Euroasia is a clusterfuck. Also the Inca are completely fucked from the get go.

I'm a boring player who just likes a nice balanced continents map, or pangea if I want some chaos thrown in the mix.

I can't go back to Civ 5 though.

fwiw, it wasn't the built in earth map it was one from the steam workshop. Heading straight north from Korea I had an absolute metric fuck ton of space to work with.

Is that "Not Another Earth Map" or something to that effect? My computer shit itself over it, it was too big.

It was called Play The World Extended (Brave New World Edition). It was quite large.

I played through Inside. At the start, it felt like Limbo without the spiders. It certainly didn't end like that though.

I'd half guessed that the player character was being controlled, based on the mechanics of the game, but certainly wasn't expecting what happened at the end.

Next up, I'm waiting for Rise of the Tomb Raider to finish downloading.

In terms of atmosphere and storytelling, Inside improves on Limbo in every way. And yeah the ending is bonkers and surprisingly emotional. I’ll need to give it a replay one day.

I've completed the pacifist run in Undertale. It's an endearing, very enjoyable game with a compelling world and goofily likeable characters. The bullet hell twist on turn-based combat is unusual and mostly entertaining, though some of the boss encounters are infuriatingly frustrating if you're going for a no kills pacifist ending. I nearly quit in exasperation a couple of times.

I kinda wanna do a genocide run since I hear it's a very different experience, but I can't be bothered starting again. I'd feel pretty bad about having to kill certain characters anyway.

I'm actually shocked by how appealing the deals on psn have become. They make me impulsively purchase games I'm unlikely to ever get around to playing just because they're so cheap. For example, I got Soma the other day, so PSN recommended Observer as something I may be interested in. I had never heard of it before, but it was described as an atmospheric cyberpunk horror, which intrigued me. Then I read up on it online, and an hour later I simply had to have it! Conveniently, it was heavily discounted in the store so I got that as well. Then I saw moo's negative comment about Amnesia and started thinking about how much I enjoy Lovecraftian horror. I found the collection for $15. I was always interested in the games, though not enough to seek them out, but shit, $15 is hardly gonna break the bank so I eventually got that as well. Then I saw that the Life is Strange season pass is on sale for $5, so of course I had to get that too!

Think I'm gonna avoid the deals pages on psn from now on. I really don't need any more games no matter how cheap. My download queue is heaving as it is...

It's basically a smaller Steam. I get what you mean. I spent much more than I should have on the January sale.

My recommendation with Amnesia would be play it at night. Not for atmosphere, but because IT'S SO FUCKING EXCRUCIATINGLY DARK. That's the mechanic or whatever, but if there's sunlight coming through a window you'll be staring at your own reflection 90% of the time.

I never had a computer powerful enough to take full advantage of the Steam offerings, so psn is somewhat of a revelation for me.

Amnesia sounds a lot like Call of Cthulhu, which is the darkest game I've ever played. I liked it a lot, but it was a constant struggle to make things out through the gloom. I eventually accepted the darkness both as a fitting stylistic choice and a mildly frustrating gameplay mechanic that nevertheless added to the horror, so I'm confident it won't be a deal breaker for me in Amnesia.
