From MW2 veteran on wards it kept getting easier, I did Ghosts on veteran in 6 hours (Black Ops 2 in 9 hours).

Goddamn it, now my controller doesn't work. The X button randomly stops responding. It's been happening with ominously increasing frequency. Fuck, a new controller wasn't in my budget, but I just got like 7 new games so what am I to do?

I decided to continue on with Dreamfall simply because it was already in the disc drive as Undertale was downloading. It's gotten a lot better now that the narrative has ramped up and the choices have become interesting, but it's obviously worn down the x button. Stupid game.

My controller also broke a while ago - the right R trigger would lock due to a
widespread design flaw. I tried a manual fix and ended up destroying the left trigger too.

Do you think it's better to buy a cheap second-hand one and hope for the best or suck it up and blow $90 on a brand new one?

One cheap arse temporary solution would be to use the PS4's accessibility feature to remap the buttons on the controller. Is there some other button the game doesn't use? Then that can be your X button.

Cash Converters sells 2nd hand ones for $60. I say buy a new one.

Might try that today just to make sure I can turn off the console if the x button gives out completely, but there's no getting around that I'll have to get a new one. Pain in the ass. The timing was really weird. It was working perfectly and I distinctly remember thinking, completely randomly, "god, I hope this controller doesn't start malfunctioning like my PS3 one". About 2 minutes later, the X button suddenly stopped responding. Obviously, it was my negative thought that broke it somehow.

My ps3 controller doesn't work properly either. It keeps spazzing out. It's still usable because it doesn't do it all the time, but it regularly stops responding to inputs and begins acting like all the buttons are pressed at the same time.

I've never had a Sony console break on me, but their controllers are obviously cheaply-constructed garbage.

Had both my XB1 launch controllers suffer stick drift (ironically on opposite sides) within 18 months of getting it (my Kinect also died within 6 months). All the replacements they sent me work fine without issue. My 360 is going strong, though the disc drive is struggling, it has defied the odds.

I loved the 360 controller. The console kept breaking, but the controller was a sturdy beast that felt just right. PS ones always felt kind of flimsy in the hand, and, even now, Sony doesn't seem to know how to design properly satisfying triggers.

Anyway, I went to town to buy a new controller, and ended up getting Yakuza 0 instead. I realised I wasn't going to find a cheap copy for a long time yet and I really wanted it in my collection. The controller will have to wait for a little while. I've re-assigned X to another button, so it works fine for now.

Gamecube was my favourite, with the Dualshock (generally) and 360 controller tied 2nd. 360 is technically better because it's still going strong twelve years later while two Dualshocks have broken on me. The worst were the wacky N64 one, which I could never play as intended and had to hold the joystick like this, and the fat Xbox one.

I would have to say the 360 controller is the best one I've experienced, never had a single issue with one.

I think the N64 has the worst controller of any successful system that I can think of. It really was a crappy gimmick-fest.

I also held it on the left side, with my thumb across to the middle joystick (not the 2 fingers like this pic).

The XB1 controller is a good improvement over the 360, apparently the Elite controller is even better.

I've never used an xbone but will probably get one of those to replace my 360 controller if it ever dies, which probably won't be for a while.

I got new controllers for both consoles yesterday. Good stuff. Now I can seriously consider playing GTA V on PS3 rather than getting the PS4 version.

What's that game like anyway? The reaction at the time seemed kind of muted despite the impressive metacritic scores, and most people seem to agree that the story and characters are some of the worst in the series. I also heard that the city is huge but kind of empty.

The setting is basically San Andreas minus San Fierro and Las Venturas, but with all the countryside to go with Los Santos, which is probably where most accusations of emptiness would come from. I'd probably agree that I found the story and characters less memorable than the other games, however some of the writing is hilarious and very sharp. I enjoyed the satire and criticism of modern america more in V than any of the previous games, however this might be because it was the first GTA to come out during my adulthood, so maybe it was just that less of it went over my head.

I think the game is a big step up from IV in terms of fun and mission variety. It's worth playing.
