Yes you should be able to get there at this point if you've been thorough in your exploring so far. It's an entirely optional area although I would definitely recommend it as it leads (indirectly) to what I consider one of the best areas in the game. You should finish Blighttown first though.

When I reached Blighttown I was simultaneously in awe of its cool vertical layout and completely frustrated by those quick flayed demons that keep coming out of the woodwork. I also saw some spiders and flying enemies waiting down below so I thought "fuck this" and returned to my nest conundrum.

The descent in Blighttown is nerve-wracking, but once I reached the bonfire down near the poisonous water I had little trouble and climbed out of there. It was the first instance in the game where I got from one bonfire to the next (bottom of Blighttown to Firelink Shrine) without dying.

After that I figured out how to reach the nest when I wasn't thinking about it (pretty cleverly hidden) and now I'm sitting in Undead Asylum where I imagine I'm about to get the shit kicked out of me by enemies way beyond my current level.

This game is so awesome. I still can't believe I didn't know it was on 360 until last week. I've heard a few people say that playing it feels like what playing Zelda felt like as a kid, and that's exactly right. It manages to strike the right balance between open-endedness and linearity so that exploration remains fun and never confounding. It also has a sense of vastness when, at least as far as I've played, the world isn't actually that big.

My only complaint is that the punishment dealt out for dying can be tortuous, especially when you've navigated a gauntlet of enemies and then reach a boss you don't even have time to understand before it destroys you in eight seconds.

Sad but I'm enjoying reading your comments just as much as playing the game :) Fun remembering that journey, discovery dragons, revisiting areas, etc, etc.

Thanks. I was wondering if people were getting tired of me going on about it.

Question: is the door you open with the Crest of Artorias in Darkroot Garden part of the DLC content or the main game?

I can't really remember it that well as it's been a year or two since I played. I think it might have just been a shortcut door but I'm not 100% sure.

Dunno why I didn't google it before. Realised I'm not exactly going to spoil the game for myself. Lol.

It opens a whole new area with high level mobs and a boss fight. Has super high soul drops though too. Doesn't look like it's part of the DLC.

Ah okay. So right now there's at least six unexplored areas open to me (Catacombs, New Londo Ruins, Valley of Drakes, Undead Asylum, the Artorias forest and the boss in Darkroot Basin) and the whole DLC is still hiding out there somewhere. This game.

It's part of the main game but lore-wise it's pretty heavily linked to the DLC area.

It's fine that the second inner part of New Londo is swarming with ghosts who come from every direction. It's fine that the area is so small that defense is virtually impossible. It's fine that you mostly have to slowly goad the ghosts outside onto the narrow steps and kill them there. It's fine that one of them throws lightning just because this game is so hardcore or whatever. What's not fine is when my halberd clearly stabs right through them and the game doesn't register the fucking hit!!! I've been slaughtered and knocked into the water over this crap.

Fuck this game.

Best game.

(and yes I'm using transient curse)

I played Fez for the first time last night as it just came out on PS4 and stuff. Didn't get too much into it but I'm liking what I've seen so far.

-Pinwheel is a very easy boss. Killed him on my first try with two flasks left.
-The Catacombs entrance to Tomb of the Giants is painfully difficult with the darkness.
-The room prior to Pinwheel with the wheel-spinning skeletons made me livid. I can't defeat the things if they're in groups and, because the closest bonfire to TofG is in the Catacombs, I have to run this gauntlet every damn time. I've made it twice (including the first time!) from about nine attempts.
-Ran out of transient curses and I'm not willing to dish out 4000 souls for them right now so no New Londo for a while.

Transient Curse doesn't last forever so it may be running out just as you make that swing. The best way to tell when it runs out is to keep it equipped in your quick-slot. When it's active then the item is greyed out, you can only use it again when the curse runs out.

As for Tomb of the Giants, there are some items (or spells, depending on what build you have) that make it easier to see in the dark. If you want to know what they are/how to get them then let me know. TotG is nearly impossible to do without these items unless you already know the layout.

It just wasn't registering the hits (because I'd still hit them afterwards sometimes). Maybe the halberd just isn't that flexible a weapon either.

I might avoid TotG for a while if that's the case. I saw the lava in the distance and assumed things would brighten up after the initial area.

Major cathartic moment just figuring out a good angle to approach these New Londo ghosts from (outside the gatekeep separating New Londo and Valley of Drakes, because I can retreat inside and they won't follow. It's basically a skirmish with 8 ghosts at once. If I get too close they surround me and kill me, but you can goad some away from the pack and sneak a few shots in. Would've killed them all the first time trying this if me and my halberd didn't go flying into the water again like a couple of dipshits.

I can see that dude in red on top of that building waiting for me too ooh spooky.
