It's basically just a celebration of visceral FPS violence with levels that let you wander around a bit rather than locking you in a hallway, complete with a dudebro Monster Energy™ soundtrack and very good graphics in 60fps.
Fuck_Giver.exe has stopped working!
Does it matter how I write the truth?

The selling point for me is that it's got very fast, visceral shooting accompanied by a bitching soundtrack and it's fun to scour the levels for secrets. It definitely feels like a modern game that isn't banking on nostalgia. $40 for Doom and Titanfall 2 is a steal, though I hope you're buying Doom from a shop because the download is fucking huge and you've got that spotty wifi.

Inclined to add that Prey is $17.95 on PS Store. Just chuck your PS4 in a room with better reception and download it overnight!

Prey is also $20 in this shop, but after Alien Isolation, I don't know if I feel like exploring another deserted space station so soon.

I really wanted to get at least 2 of Persona 5, Yakuza 0, or RE7, so all these other games feel like something of a compromise. But I might be able to get Doom, Titan, and Last Guardian for cheap, and then download P5 if it's still under $50 on PSN. That sounds like an OK haul and empties the gift card. Really, I should be getting some clothes or, you know, something useful, but I haven't gotten a game in ages (besides Dreamfall, which just isn't cutting the mustard), so it feels right to blow it all on PS4.

The P5 sale ended. Hellblade’s on sale for 25.

Ah shit. I have to get at least one of the three or I won't be satisfied. I suppose I could buy Yakuza for $80 from JB and still get T2 and Doom, but I just can't talk myself into paying $80 for a single videogame even if it is from a gift card. It goes against my principles.

Hellblade sounds intriguing, though I must admit my interest has waned somewhat recently. Maybe it was the indifferent zero punctuation review. Plus the wi fi. I had idealistically set out to find reasonably-priced physical games because the bedroom internet thing is a hassle. Moving the console just to buy a game is the last resort.

I wouldn't buy a game for $80. The exception is some Nintendo games which never seem to go down in price. I ain't got a Switch though so whatever.

You’re in luck. Persona 5 is the store’s deal of the week at $40.

Thanks. Downloading now and I didn't even have to move the ps4! The internet is working great at the moment. Seems to depend on the time of day. Last night, it couldn't even download a system update.

Anyway, I got doom and t2 as well. Thinking of downloading hellblade and life is strange too. That should tide me over for a while.

I had hoped for Yakuza, but it's $100 on psn! I have no idea why they don't want anyone to play it. It's a great, great series.

Oh, and I also got Doki Doki Literature Club for free on Steam. It's apparently a Japanese dating sim that gradually morphs into psychological horror. Sounds interesting. Plus it's free!

Reminds me of Hatoful Boyfriend, a game where you attend a school for birds and make friends and romance with the birds even though you're human. It apparently turns into a murder mystery. I haven't got around to it.

I just tried Hatoful Boyfriend for an hour. It stinks. The tone leans too hard into kooky and the plot is parcelled out at an intolerably slow rate in favour of the boring dating simulator stuff. I looked at spoilers and it definitely goes in an unexpected direction, but I can’t wade through the crap to get to the good stuff.

Sounds like bestiality to me. If it was another country, these developer would be investigated for crimes against nature.

Doki Doki Literature Club just got really fucking weird (in a good way, I think). Something unexpectedly disturbing happens that I thought might have been due to a choice I made earlier, so I tried to load an older save to make a different one, only for the game to abruptly corrupt all my saves and force me to start all over again with a key character missing. I don't understand where this is going, but I'm officially intrigued!

The first hour is a slog since it all seems very silly and generic (and sleazy in that peculiarly Japanese way where you're flirting with buxom teenage anime girls who all compete for your affection), but then the tone subtly shifts to something more serious and desperate. Then the unsettling thing happens and the game starts outright fucking with you. It's actually become kinda good. Definitely worth trying out (though patience is required).

I glanced at the Wiki and I’m intrigued. I hope it’s not like Pony Island, which also did meta stuff but sucked hard. I downloaded it.

But right now I’m about 13 hours into Persona 5 and it’s wild. A strange, utterly absorbing game. I don’t want to spoil anything.

Edit: I mean strange partly for its concepts, but it could also be that I’m not accustomed to this much anime.
