Yeah, that was a bad first impression. It’s a well crafted sandbox game, part GTA5 part MGS5 (I’m sure the FC series influenced those games too). And yeah, it’s just cool. Despite the somewhat lacklustre main plot, it’s got GTA-level satire and the dialogue is frequently funny. It’s got a lot of dots on the maps, but it’s a fun, versatile playground. I dig it. I might actually get around to the rest of the series, which I bought in a bundle but barely touched.

I'm actually in the mood to play another Far Cry and 4 is 50% off on steam. I think I'll go for it.

The game presents a very difficult moral choice: side with the guy who likes child marriage, or side with the guy who doesn’t like child marriage.

Far Cry 3 and 4 are quite similar, so I wouldn't play them back to back. Blood Dragon is different and short enough to have fun with though.

I think I preferred 3's story more, but that could have been due to the order I played them. 4 has some obvious improvements:
- the protagonist isn't a white saviour (although he has been brought up in a western country)
- it doesn't do a bait and switch of the antagonist part way through.

This was something I was honestly pretty confused about. He looks very Caucasian to me in the opening cinematic. He also sounds white, which checks out as he is voice acted by a Canadian.

Combined with the fact that I don't think I remember actually seeing Ajay's skin at any point in actual gameplay (he's always wearing gloves) it makes me think Ubisoft purposefully made the decision to make the character not white in name and plot, but have his ethnicity otherwise concealed as to not alienate chads.

My favourite part was grabbing a rotocopter and flying to the top of the bell towers I hadn’t liberated. Fun game.

Doom better be worth this fucking 77GB download.

In the first two levels of Doom there’s these doors with a bit of white patterning that don’t open but have rooms behind them on the map. Is this something you come back to later? I’m missing a secret on both levels so I’m guessing it’s to do with these doors.

The game fucking owns. The opening is so cool.

Yeah they're secret rooms, there's a switch nearby the doors that you have to find to get in. You dont come back but you do have the ability to replay levels and get stuff you didn't find.

Damn, they blend in so much with the environment. I’d stood right next to one last night looking around for something and missed it.

Ultra-Violence is the perfect difficulty for me but I’m surprised that’s the hardest available on the first playthrough. It’s far from brutal.

I read your old post calling the shotgun lame. I like it, though I wish it was just a fraction quicker between shots. It’s satisfying just shooting shit up up close.

I maintain that it's lame. I mean, the game renders it obsolete when you get the super shotgun (which is better as a closer range boomstick against single targets) and the machine gun (better for multiple targets from further away and with the rocket firing mode which is just better than the combat shotgun's explosive shot).

What's so good about Doom? Everyone's saying it's great because it's like the old games, but that's not necessarily a huge selling point for me. Doom 2 demo was awesome back in the day, but I think I'd struggle with a plotless shooting gallery in blocky featureless rooms nowadays.

However, it is very cheap, so I'm seriously considering it, along with Titanfall 2. Worth $40 for the two of them?
