I impulsively bought Dreamfall Chapters in a different mall where my gift card is useless. I was dragged into EB Games by my nephew, and just couldn't say no once I saw it. I thought the first Dreamfall had one of the best-written and most touching videogame stories I have come across, so I loved it to bits despite the actual gameplay ranging from mediocre to barely existent. That was a long time ago though. I had stopped hanging out for a sequel years ago. I bought this one almost out of a sense of duty rather than genuine excitement. Even though I barely remember the story, I kinda feel I owe it to the developer to see how it ends.

I finished off the main path of The Witness. I ended up using a few hints for some of the Town puzzles. There was one on a green board that I thought was related to the windmill, but instead was a different presentation of a previous puzzle type that was never used anywhere else in the game.

There were some good puzzles in that ending sequence, but I really didn't like the ones with the flashing colours: I don't want to get a headache from simply looking at a puzzle.

I had noticed there were some extra gated off areas, so I looked up where the door to the caves area was. I've given the timed record player challenge a number of shots, but I think I'm going to give up on

Picked up Papers, Please for 80% off yesterday. It's very annoying and probably the antithesis of fun, but oddly addicting with a surprising amount of personality, as well as being pretty poignant in what it's trying to get across. Everyone but my wife is dead. I took that guy's $1000 and then my fucking neighbours reported our wealth (what was there to report? That we weren't carting off members of the family every day to Eric Idle when he came past in the morning?!) So now I'm probably fucked again once the wife gets sick. I can't keep up enough of a pace or be accurate enough to actually make money every day.

I liked Papers, Please. It was interesting.

Dreamfall Chapters isn't great so far. They removed the rudimentary combat and stealth, but didn't really upgrade the simplistic inventory puzzles, so now it's basically just a walking and talking simulator. More annoyingly, it's neither as well written nor directed as the previous game. I'm only in the first episode, but it hasn't grabbed me at all. I hope it gets much better.

I finished HZD and loved it, ultimately. The combat is seriously awesome and the main story and lore are engaging.

Finally giving Ass Creed Syndicate a fair chance after gawking at the intro last year. It’s just so similar to the others and I can’t be forgiving of that when it’s just as awkward to control, and other games have transcended its mechanics to the point where it just looks worse and worse. Its take on London isn’t very interesting. There’s map clutter everywhere. Still, the stealth holds up, the cutscenes are lighthearted fun, I’ll probably finish it just because I have a hankering for open world games right now.

Finished it. A clunker. The contextual buttons are a mess, the climbing is completely outclassed at this point, the side missions are soulless busywork. The scenes are directed well, but the story is bare bones. Some funny lines. The music is terrific. The last two sequences (Roth and Sterrick) were pretty good. It was in dire need of that year off. I’m actually eager to try Origins eventually, it sounds like it’s a breath of fresh air. There’s also a masochistic part of me that wants to play Unity just so I’ve played all the main ones.

It is, but I still wanna see what it’s like out of a mix of nostalgia and morbid curiosity.

Anyway, I’m playing Far Cry 4 now. It’s so “here’s a bunch of Ubisoft clutter” from the get-go, with the same tired Ubisoft plot of you working for the underdogs by clawing back territory from the bad guys (the villain is excellent though). Movement is too slow with too many long animations for basic actions like climbing, and the inability to climb mildly steep inclines discourages exploration. Shooting ain’t that good either. I’m not impressed.

It’s possible I’m just getting tired of games though. I’ve played 4 long games in a row with little pause.

The game isn't shit, it just isn't anywhere near as good as the original trilogy.

It is on EA access for those who have a membership on XB1.

Actually I change my mind, FC4 is pretty cool.
