I've just been chipping away at Quake 2. It's okay, I was fully expecting to prefer it over Quake, and while it does have better graphics and a way better soundtrack, I think the first game actually plays better (despite being much harder). There's a lot of backtracking in this one where a map would be useful, and the level design is far less interesting. Quake definitely had that old-school DOOM style sensibility where-as Quake 2 is a much more modern style game. Also the Cyborg sci-fi aesthetic, while by no means bad, isn't as unique as Medieval Eldritch shit from the first game. In some ways I'd like a game somewhere between what Quake and Quake 2 does. It exists, too. It's a little game called DOOM (still the best FPS ever, doubly cemented as fact now that I've played these Quake games). Also, after dozens of hours of despising it, I've come to enjoy driving the Monaco stages in DiRT Rally. They're definitely the most narrow stages in the game, and the icy roads always tripped me up, but I've got the hang of it now. Edited by Doomguy, Dec 9 2017, 11:16 PM.

Old Blood’s more fun than New Order. It’s got that Half-Life thing going where the world is one big level with smooth transitions. The plot is simple but intriguing. The stealth is a little better, now that guards notice they’re walking over their friends’ corpses and sound the alarm. The New Colossus is $40 on PS4 today so I’m getting it. |

I just remembered my biggest irritation with New Order - the PS3 loading times! I had to wait 3 minutes for game to reload whenever I died. It became untenable. There's a similar problem with Alien Isolation, though not quite as bad. It takes about 5 minutes for my save to load when I first turn it on or begin a new level, though at least reloading when I die is close to tolerable (around a minute). |

They must've built it for the newer systems - both it and Old Blood load super quick on PS4, which is good because I die a lot. |

Oy Curt, I redownloaded CS:S after years of CoD and wow it's lame as f. Maybe it's fun if you know the kinks, but I couldn't go back to something like that. It's not that you're not immediately respawned, but that it's just people meeting at the same chokepoints each time and spraying bullets. I feel so limited by it. |

You've got to play mind games and pull different strats with a proper team for counter-strike to shine. If you're playing with bots or just randies its a pretty trash game. The shooting mechanics are also much higher skill than CoD where you can just spray a SMG into someone's ankle with no recoil. Not respawning is definitely a good thing about it, but the bigger benefit is the economy. Respawning every time with a full load-out of your choice in CoD is mad lame. That said, I quit CSGO about three years ago lol. Got burned out on it and my friends don't really play it anymore. |

I was playing with 47 randos. Way too many people, but the only server with a decent ping. CoD rewards good play in the form of scorestreaks (they've toned them down lately, probably for the best because they were overpowered). I prefer the losing side not getting punished, which makes close competition more likely. It sucked in Counter-Strike how getting dominated by the other team meant they get superior weapons while you're stuck with the shitty shotgun or an SMG (or a pistol if you wanna save up for a rifle next round). It just made me get over it quickly. |

I mocked Infinite Warfare for taking CoD to space, but having finished the campaign it's actually quite impressive. They cram a lot of neat ideas into those 6 hours, and it's visually stunning. When I was playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R there was talk of Metro. Metro Redux is $11 on PS4 right now. Buy? |

I rather enjoyed both Metro games, I'd say yes. |

The Metro games are great, 2033 was a bit rough around the edges but I heard a lot of those problems were fixed in the Redux version. The atmosphere and world building is top notch but the story falls a little flat. |

Metro 2033 is pretty awesome. It's not fantastic as either a shooter or a stealth game, but I loved the atmosphere and the setting. |

Thanks dudes, will get. I’m playing Titanfall 2. The campaign is pretty cool. The multiplayer is hectic. It’s fun but I’m so out of my depth. |

I finished Alien Isolation the other night. A very good stealth horror that falls short of greatness because of its bog standard mission design and lack of variety. In other news, my ps4 has started ejecting discs and randomly turning on in the middle of the night again. I had to unplug it. Strange that it only seems to play up in summer. |

I recommend Titanfall 2 if it's on sale on Steam or whatever. The single player campaign is really good. It's not CoD with mechs - it has inventive gameplay ideas and environments, and a surprising incentive on exploration for what's a mostly linear game. |

I’ve been on an FPS rampage the last month or so and would rate the FPSs thusly: Titanfall 2 Stalker Wolfenstein TNO Wolfenstein TOB CoD IW CoD WW2 |
