I am the only one that finds the puzzle difficulty in Swapper to be wildly inconsistent? Some of them are extremely easy and others are stumping me.

I think they generally get harder over time but it’s not a perfect correlation.

Has anyone here played Soma? I'm considering getting it on sale. It looks better than Amnesia but I don't know if it would address my complaints about that game or not.
I played a few hours of it when it came out but never finished it. THe gameplay is super bare bones and pretty frustrating actually. It doesn't give you enough tools to escape the monsters, the levels aren't very well designed to give you enough hiding spots, and there aren't really any puzzles to speak of.

That being said it looks fantastic and the world design is really really good. The story for the most part is great, although it takes a bit to get going. I probably would have finished it if it weren't for the fact that I was working a lot when I bought it and MGS5 came out soon after.

Thanks for the impressions. I think I'll give it a miss for now.

Throwing in the towel in the sarcophagus part. All that playing yesterday has burnt me out. I rushed through Pripyat and the Chernobyl plant but the indoor part needs to be done carefully and I'm just not in the mood. The game's atmosphere holds up tremendously well despite looking pretty subpar even for the time: it's a great combination of sound and lighting. The combat is fun. The sidequests are meh. I might just skip to Call of Pripyat when I'm in the mood for more.

I think you should finish it after a break, it's worth it. Not surprised you're burnt out, seems like you went through it in 2 or 3 days? How many hours have you played?

The side quests are meh, I think they're mainly intended to be there just to give the player some optional ways to get a little bit of money or the odd item here and there if you're running low on stuff, but it gives you most that you need during the course of the main game. I think some of the environmental graphics were actually well above average for 2007, more noticeably so when you crank everything up, but some of the game's animations and modelling let it down. I always thought the weapon models were a bit crap in places.

I don't think I could begrudge anyone for wanting to skip Clear Sky, it's absolutely the least essential.

I played 15 hours. Except for the lategame I didn’t rush through, but I lost interest in sidequests quickly so that’s probably why.

I found that to be the case too.

Well I decided Swapper isn't for me. I think the Portal games worked for me, someone not interested in puzzle games, due to 3 things that this game doesn't have.

1. Humour. Swapper has none and takes itself too seriously. Unfortunately I don't care about the plot or the game's philosophy so it's effectively a pure puzzle game with not much else to distract myself with or enjoy.

2. Mechanical novelty. Plopping portals down around the place and flying through them at high speed was genuinely fun and I'd never done anything quite like it in a game. The cloning & swapping mechanic really doesn't have that entertainment factor.

3. A smooth difficulty curve. The Portal games ramped the difficulty up much more progressively. Swapper has had me bored at strings of easy puzzles only to smash my face into a brick wall, more than once now. I don't find that enjoyable.

As for games that are actually good I like; still enjoying the shit out of DiRT Rally. This is the first racer I've actually played in manual, I've always steered clear of it because I figured it would be too difficult and annoying in a race, but it's really not that bad at all. It helps you limit your speed around corners, and feels satisfying AF when you're nailing those gears in as you speed down a straight. Acute corners are especially fun now, pulling the e-brake to slide the back out in first gear and flooring it through a 180 never gets old. It's so much more engaging, driving auto just feels boring now.

Makes me wish I had a nice racing wheel setup but I don't have the money. Maybe one day, but controller works well enough for now.

Is System Requirements Lab wrong here? I checked to see if I could run Pillars of Eternity. I exceed every minimum requirement but it says my video card fails despite me having enough Video RAM and pixel/vertex shader attributes.

My card is Radeon HD 6750M. The minimum for the game is "ATI Radeon HD 4850". For the record, it also said Stellaris wouldn't run (minimum "AMD HD 5770"), but it ran perfectly. Do you think I'll be okay here?

I can definitely believe that the 6750M is weaker than the 4850, not only because it's a mobile card but also the 6000 series saw the model numbers shifted around a bit so that the roughly equivalent cards to the previous 5000 series were now 100 higher. For example, the HD 6870 was actually very slightly SLOWER than the HD 5870, the HD 6970 was the true successor, so the 6750M is probably more like a 56XXM card, pretty slow.

All that said, there's no standard or benchmark what-so-ever for the minimum and recommended specs that developers give for their games. They can basically say whatever they want, usually it's either "Well, we had this stuff around that we tested it with, so we'll just put those" or "Nvidia and intel have paid us to put their latest products as the recommended to encourage upgrading"...

Pillars of Eternity can't be that demanding, surely. And additionally, its not a frame-rate dependent game.

Might need that regardless of performance. I found it really dull.
